The Hound of the Baskervilles [1959]
Ah, you can't go wrong with Hammer. On the back of the DVD, Newsweek proudly proclaims "The Best of the Sherlocks!", and I have to agree. This is the role that Peter Cushing was born to play, it's a shame he didn't play it as often as he did Van Helsing. His mannerisms, his delivery, even his looks, everything about him is perfect Holmes. The rest of the cast are pretty good too, dont get me wrong, but Cushing puts them to shame. Though he is rather ominous in some scenes, it's nice to see Christopher Lee opposite Cushing as a good guy for a change. I really liked the classic plot, full of surprises, great characters, humor and lots of chances for Cushing to shine. The atmosphere is great, foggy and dark like many Hammer films. Perfect for horror. All in all this is a really fun film, though it does have a few pretty cheesy moments. Good film overall though. 7.5/10 |
Lucky Number Slevin;

The Greatest Game Ever Played 9/10
I really enjoyed this movie, especially since it was based on actual events and real people. I thought the little kid who was his caddie was something Hollywood added in, but it turns out that he was real also. In the bonus features you get to see the film and pics of the real Francis, and pics of the real Eddie. Well acted and directed, I would recommend this film from the most avid golfer to the weekly hacker(myself). Even if you don't play golf you might enjoy it. Hills Have Eye 7/10 I just saw this at the cheap theatres, and I surprisingly enjoyed it. The acting is good and the atmosphere created by the director was done well also. I need to go back and see the original, as I don't remember much of it. I would not pay full price for it, but I would recommend you check it out at a discount theatre, or on DVD. |
I just saw The Swarm. It's a pretty good old movie about killer bees.

The Return of the Pink Panther
Put simply, Peter Sellers is a comic genius. Inspector Clouseau is one of the greatest characters ever to be put on film, and though this might not be his best outing, it's still hilarious. Sellers is in top form as always, and keeps the gags fast, frequent and undeniably funny. The obligatory Kato ambush here is one of the best of the series, without a doubt. Herbert Lom is great, slowly losing his mind as Chief Inspector Dreyfus. His reactions are priceless, and I'd have to say he does some of his best work of the series in this film. One thing that I didn't particularly care for was the subplot with Sir Charles Litton. It was well acted and interesting, but seemed very out of place in a Pink Panther movie, it was much too serious and too much like an actual spy film. That doesn't detract a lot, but I do wish more time would have been spent with Clouseau. Overall though, this is one of the best entries in the Pink Panther saga. Not as good as Shot in the Dark or as over-the-top as some of the later films, but still very funny and enjoyable. 8/10 |

Return: How would you order the films? Mine would go:
Also, have you checked out the original "The Ladykillers" yet? Genious comedy. Anchor Bay's got it out on DVD for around $10, worth every penny. |
Basically the same as yours, sans the original. It's been years since I saw the first Pink Panther, and I hardly remember any of it, so I left it off the list. Really need to watch it again. As for The Ladykillers, I looked for it at Futureshop and CD Plus, but no luck, as usual. |

Last night/this morning I watched: -The Fly (1986)- (7/10) This was my first time seeing this movie, and I'm certainly glad I did. Although not as good as the original V.P. classic, this gross little Croenenberg flick was well worth my time. A great spin on the original story, good 1980s acting, and some cool effects (Ex. the arm wrestling scene: neat-o!) -Blazing Saddles (1974)- (10/10) I've seen this probably ten times, and I easily hold it as my favorite comedy (although Airplane! takes a close second), and one of my favorite movies in general. Mel Brooks did a great job with the witty dialogue and the goofy but very entertaining storyline. What an awesome cast, too. The perfect comedy. And just now I watched: -Halloween (1978)- (10/10) The omega of all bogeyman movies, and, in my opinion, the greatest horror movie of all time. The atmosphere is such a contradicting one; once we get comfortable, we feel claustrophobic. A great cast, most especially Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasense (but excluding the girl who uses the word "totally" so damn often...). And I've said it before and I'll say it again: Michael Myers, at least in the first two films of the series, is the most believable and scary killer to ever grace the silver screen. I can only think of two horror films that I would give a 10/10 rating to, and this is one of them. |
A bunch of my friends are going to Mission Impossible 3 tonight...I havent seen the first two, and it looks pretty stupid, but it's better than staying home. Anyone seen it? Any good?

Five Easy Pieces- 3/5
Cold Mountain- 5/5 BTW- Return, I've seen MI:3, and I thought it was decent (you can see my review somewhere in these fond pages of the last seen movie thread). And yes, I too hate Cruise! But, I love Philip Seymour Hoffman! |

Get Shorty...had an "ok" cast, but I think it was a little overrated, didn't find it funny at all really, and the plot was pretty incoherent at times. Started watching "be cool" after, so far it seems better.

I just saw Quills with Geoffry Rush and Joaquin Phoenix. I have a lot of Marquis de Sade literature. History's first true balls-to-the-wall pervert.
Tom Cruise should be the new face of Summer's Eve. |
Weekend at Bernie's- 2/5
Had some laughs here and there, but got very tiresome. Also, the love interest/relationship between Richard and Gwen was stale and reminded me of the lackluster and chemistry-dry relationship Corbin Bernsen and Rene Russo had in Major League. |
I did like legend Cheeb, but it's my persanol opinion...sorry,I just dont like his acting that much...
The 9th Gate. |
Super low budget classic Darkness The Vampire Version
Tsui Harks Seven Swords, which I really liked as well |

As for MI 3 I want to go just to see the Hanso Foundation thanked in the credits. |
On the whole Tom Cruise thing, I dont mind his acting at all. He's been in alot of great films, most of which Cheeba listed. The thing that I cant stand about the guy is how you cant turn around without seeing his face or hearing some pointless detail of his personal life. I couldnt care less about his new baby, or what he did on Oprah, or what he believes in...if I had my way I wouldnt even know about it. Gets on my nerves.
Anyway, back on topic...still a similar topic though... Mission: Impossible III Explosions, car chases, helicopters and non-stop action...what else would you expect? I was actually really surprised with this movie to be honest. Not having seen the other 2 films in the series I didn't really know what to expect, however I had it pegged as a brainless action flick. Though I wasn't exactly wrong in that assumption, it was better than your typical brainless action flick. Tom Cruise does a pretty good job as usual, but he wish more of his screen time would have been used on the supporting cast, Philip Seymour Hoffman in particular. He was a great villain, but we didn't get to see him nearly as much as I would have liked. Simon Pegg's small role was great as well. The plot was basic and straight-forward, but definitely exciting. I wish they would have spent less time on the whole family aspect though, a pointless and failed attempt to give the movie a deeper meaning. The effects were great of course, but the bridge scene went on way too long. It was like they had an explosion quota they had to meet. Despite it's flaws, however, it put a smile on my face, put me on the edge of my seat and kept me entertained for it's duration. Abd in the end, that counts for more than you'd expect. 7.5/10 |

Jungle Holocaust
The alligator part was just so fucked up...and it makes me sick to know it's 100% real. |
I just watched The Punisher with Dolph Lundgren. I thought it was pretty good. Maybe I'll see the 2004 version.

Tamara- 2.5/5
First off, I'm getting tired of these "bullied girls who turn into sociopathic killers" horror movies. I just wanted to get that off of my chest awhile. Anyway, Tamara had some interesting kills, but the plot flopped. At times it seemed like you were watching a slasher flick, then the next minute it feels like you're watching a drama. The movie could not make up its mind. And, it felt like Carrie half of the time, which really seemed to bother me (though, this wou;d've made for a better The Rage: Casrrie 2). |
Munich
The Island...I must admit it was'nt bad and Scarlett Johansson is soooooo f@#king fine! The Master of Horror:Chocolate and Incident The Fog(remake)....rubbish,complete rubbish. |
