His name is BOB - What a name to call your 8 year old boy. No wonder he is whiney little bastard.

Bay of Blood

Bava put together a pretty good slasher here. Decent amount of kills, some of which are almost identically used in other horror films (I'm lookin' at you Jason). What really grabbed me was the sound, I loved the music in this film. Good stuff, worth a watch or two.

Tonightm tomorrow, and saturday, sometime, I will be watching 28 days later, halloween 4, evil dead 2, wolf creek, and scream 2. What's everyone's opinions on these?

28 days, alright but not too good.
Don't like Halloween 4
Evil Dead 2, leave till last as it is sure as hell the best in your list. It kicks ass!
Wolf Creek, not seen
Scream 2 alright but Scream is better!

I've seen all these except wolf creek and 28 days, looking forward to both though.

I think... yes, Scream 2 might actually tie scream 1 with me..... don't ask why, maybe it's because of the setting was better, and had a great suspense scene.

28 Days Later - Sawq it when it first came out and really didnt like it. Been planning on buying it though, would like to give it another chance.

Wolf Creek - Really enjoyed it. I wrote a mini-review a few pages back, but it has spoilers...

Evil Dead 2 - One of the greatest horror films ever.

28 Days Later- Boring, never caught my interest, besides the first 15-20 minutes, which were atmosphereically cool. 5/10

Halloween 4- Not as good as Halloween 1 or 2, which get perfect 10s in my book. Very different, too. More of a thriller than a slasher, as it's kind of told from the cops perspective and whatnot. Still enjoyable, though. 7/10

Evil Dead 2- The perfect example of how to mix horror with comedy. A perfect movie. 10/10

Wolf Creek- As a slasher, OK. Atmospherically, pretty damn good. The acting is superb for a horror movie, too.

Scream 2- My least favorite out of the Scream trilogy, easily. Didn't have the right feel for me. 7.5/10

I think it's because I watched so many bad movies in the past week (and not the good kind), so I think this one got off easy.

Fallen

Picture this: Take John Carpenter's "The Thing", set it in the big city, change the alien to a demon and turn MacReedy into a cop. Now make the characters less interesting and remove all the gore and most of the suspense. If you can picture all that, you'd be picturing Fallen. Denzel Washington plays his typical cop role, which by this point he has completely mastered and does a great job at it. The plot was pretty interesting, though derivative of more than just The Thing. Kept my attention though, despite moving very slowly in the middle. Aside from Washington's character, nobody has any depth to them. Though well acted, I wish they would have got more into Donald Sutherland's character, in my opinion that was a waste of a good performance. The ending is great, I like how it made you think there wouldn't be a twist right up until it was revealed. All in all this film has it's flaws, but was definitely worth the $7 I paid for it.

6.5/10

alkytrio666 04-20-2006 07:18 PM

Blade Runner- Picked this one up in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart quite awhile ago. Good buy, I liked it a lot.
**SPOILERS!**
Can anyone explain to me the ending? I think I got out of it that Deckard is an android, and that now that guy who leaves paper animals everywhere is hunting him. Is that it?

Abbott and Costello In Society- Yet another great, relaxing and hilarious film by the two most comic geniouses of all time.

Posher778 04-20-2006 07:45 PM

Scream 2

9/10

*somewhat spoilers*

This movie has some serious suspense at a few parts, and one scene amazes me how nedge of my seat it was, even though I had seen it before. Meaning, the scene in the car, with the 2 detectives and sidney, and her friend. Where sidney has to climb over him to get out of the car. Plus, this movie makes me jump a few times, such as Sarah michelle gellars scene, where he's behind the door. Also, nice gore for a mainly "stabbing" slasher, meaning, the pipe straight through the detective's head, etc. Another great scene to me was gale and dewey in the filming room, where gale shows how rough she can be and beats the guy up, and the other suspense scene there, where she hides behind the panels to stay hidden.

*end spoiler*

Blood and Lace:

Another fine example of 1970s American horror. I really enjoyed this flick nice n' trashy with some decent gore and a cool story. I really like the sleazy undertones of this period of horror. Ranks up there with other favorites of the day Deranged, Motel Hell, and Eaten Alive. If you can track it down check the fucker out it comes with my seal of approval.

Blood Diner:

Blood Feast done 80s style. This movie is really good fun. Definatley a underated classic.

Rock N' Roll High School:

There's no doubt about it this flick kicks ass! This one always makes me smile. Great soundtrack and some really funny moments. Not as cool as the Blues Brothers but really what is....?
"Do your parents know you're a Ramone?" :D

Story Of Ricky:

The BEST kung-fu flick ever. A total kickass splatter fest! I fuckin' loved it!

Sleepwalkers:

Hadn't seen this since I was in high school. One of the better SK movies with some cool cameos. I really dig the Shadows tune on it "Sleepwalk". Worth a watch to see people stabbed with corncobs and cats smashing windows

They've been going downhill for sure, but I found the second and third to be enjoyable, I've watched both of 'em more than a couple times each. I was hoping but didn't expect this one to be any different....pretty funny with a wacky but decent way to connect all the storylines of the spoofed films....didn't do it for me on either aspect. Just not a good movie at all imo. I might give the dvd a shot though cause like I said, could fall into the 'so bad it's funny' category. Now that I think about it that's probably where my few laughs came from.

ATL

I didn't have high or low expectations because except for Mykelti Williamson(Bubba in Forrest Gump) non of the lead actors nor the director had any real experience. Whether or not that had an impact on how I felt about the movie I don't know, but regardless of that, I liked it alot.

First and foremost, it's ghetto as hell which I didn't have a problem with at all. I thought the acting was good, nobody's getting an oscar nod or being labeled the next De Niro('specially the guy who played Esquire, he's the only one imo that gave a sub-par performance, T.I.'s little brother wasn't exactly stellar either but watchable) but it was good. Big Boi from Outkast was outstanding(in the literal sense of the word), I thought he gave a very convincing performance(has some good comedic lines for a gangster).

Unlike 50 cent, Eminem and 99% of all rappers T.I.'s debut film isn't centered around rap or gangsters. It's a good story about a group of teenage friends in a rough part of town going through everyday Atlanta life and culture, and I thought it was told very well. It's funny, it's sad, the lead actress is hotter than the center of the sun....yada yada yada...Overall I'd say 7.5 outta 10.

Abominus 04-21-2006 06:34 AM

I found Layer Cake dull and without charm. It supposedly shares part of the team that made Snatch and Lock, Stock but is nearly humorless.

The lead character (WTF's his name, the new James Bond) is devoid of any emotion and seems like he's just reading through lines. Maybe it's just me but it's nothing special. It's not awful, it's just there.

I watched Tobe Hooper's Toolbox Murders and the classic Let Sleeping Corpses Lie. I enjoyed both of them and plan on watching LSCL again today.

Didnt you find the ending pretty obvious? It did catch me off guard a bit, but I had the general concept down right from when we kept hearing stuff "He's not going to make it" or "I didnt move the body". I think it was pretty cheap of them though to point to, as Noctuary put it, "a Fight Club style ending" in many places. When Gosling and MacGreggor are fighting and their positions keep interchanging for example...thats the only thing that threw me off of the ending, it made me thing that it was MacGreggor who was in the crash. Dont get me wrong, I thought the movie was decent, but really obvious ending IMO.

nope - i didnt see it coming at all ... i was too caught up in the movie ... i found it very stylish and compelling.

Ultimate Avengers: The Movie DVD

Actually I liked this a lot!

The only problem I had with it was that it moved way too quickly from point to point--would've been better if it'd been paced just a little slower. There were many sad and thoughtful moments that might have been really profound if the audience had had a little more time to think about them. Otherwise, a very entertaining story.

I love that movie. I don't know how many times I watched that in college under the influence of something. The animation is poor by todays standards, but the stories hold up well.

I have seen these movies recently:

Eight Below - 8.5/10
The Godfather - 12/10
Hostel - 7.5/10 A 10 for gore and a 10 for T & A
North Country - 8/10
Fun with Dick and Jane - 6/10

I really enjoyed Layer Cake,it's packed with top-notch actors,a good script and compelling story. It's most certainly not Snatch or Lock Stock but rather a straight forward drama more akin to Sexy Beast.Daniel Craig is good as the lead(I'm pretty sure this film in particular sealed his new "Bond" title) and Sienna Miller...well she is quite nice to look at.

In my opinion definitely worth the rental fee or the cost of buying it for that matter.

On a bit of a side note:the director(can't remember his name)was the original choice to replace Bryan Singer after he left X-Men 3.

I just found that interesting.

Silent Hill;
I'm not going to say how good or bad it was, just these statements. Recut the beginning better. It was way too choppy and didn't flow well. It's as if they had a longer version of the film, and wanted to cut time down so they choose random spots of the longer segments and through them in. It would have been better with her waking up from the car crash, and when she meets Cybil it would flash back to the chase - as if she was remembering. When explaining to Cybil why she's there, it could have then told us about Sharon's sleepwalking. I know the whole "cut down time" thing isn't true, as Sony passed the first cut of the film. So, what we saw is the director's cut, what was fist put together. Anyways, Sean Bean's character served no purpose. He wasn't even in the script originally. His segments in the film just ruined the tense moments as theyh seemed to come directly after one of the mother's "moments". He didn't act well at all in it, either. Though I admit the scenes where they cross each other in the two worlds was very eerie. I also though the whole thing was sort of... confused. It didn't know where it was going. It was sort of encounter, after encounter, with no real direction. Then we learn it's all been a "lead". They should have focused more on that, put a few more puzzles in and get rid of some useless jarble. The flashback film effect scene = GOD, however. And the child actors voice was so haunting. *chills*. I would have also liked a bigger dramatic impact in the last scene. Rather then have them fade out after the girl faints. I wanted to see what happened.

With these changes, and a bit more, I thought it could have secured itself as one of the best horror films this year. It might have enough already to do that - for fans of the game. But with these edits it would have been clearer what was going on, and less confusing. Also, I thought it could have had more of a "OMFG OMFG OMFG WHAT THE SHITHOLE IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT EDGE OF YOUR SEAT THRILL-RIDE!" effect.

What I got out of it was, it was nice to see all the monsters from the game and all the music from the game. It also had some relentlessly amazing kills - ripping people right in half? Or ripping flesh off and throwing innards at a church door? Amazing. But as for overall story, could have been SO much better. SOOO much better.

Oh, and all the new reviews have dropped it down to a 17% rating.
I can see why - critics don't play games - and this movie wasn't anything without it.
The movie's key lied in the naustalgia of the fans, or the eyecandy of seeing it in amazing CGI.

Posher778 04-22-2006 12:02 PM

Wolf Creek

I don't know what all you people are complaining about, this movie was fucking amazing. I don't think it took as long as some of you said to get into it, only like 40 minutes, and it wasn't that bad... I think it had amazing build up, amazing gore, acting, plot, story, whatever. The *minor spoilers* terrified girls did an amazing job of... being terrified, especially the scene with kristy in the shed, and liz, when mick told her about putting her head on a stick.... her face was terrified! No ujump outs.... minor drawback for me, but the scene where mick was in the back of the car still scared me, even though i totally knew it was coming after hearing it from some of you guys. I expected a big jump out, but got a "heh heh heh heh" stab. Which was quite scary to me. I didn't like the crucifixion part.... don't know for sure why, it was chilling though. I didn't like the ending, but I guess it was suitable.

8.5/10

The_Return 04-22-2006 01:52 PM

I saw a few minutes of a silent film on TV last night, Im not 100% what it was though. Im thinking Der Golem, but Im not positive. The part I saw had a big, stone-like dude throw a woman off a tower. The background was colourized yellow, then changed to red when he threw her. Is this Der Golem?

Posher778 04-22-2006 01:53 PM

Evil dead 2

7/10 (some things I just don't like, but it's truly a good movie)
