Super Size Me
I don't eat very much fast food to begin with, but this didn't exactly make me want to go out and grab a Big Mac. Though I do think Spurlock exaggerated a bit near the first, he did have some very strong points. Some of the scenes were pretty disturbing, more-so than any horror movie you can find. Though hilarious in parts, he certainly knows how to get his point across through comedy. The animated sequences were especially effective. I don't agree with the scene where he showed the bypass surgery though...seemed like it was there simply for the shock value. Overall though, this was a great documentary, and I'm truly surprised that it didn't have a bigger effect on the fast food industry. 8.5/10 |

Pit and the Pendulum [1964]
When you hear discussion about the best horror films of all time, certain titles come up more than others. The Exorcist, Psycho, The Shining, ect. Why this film is not mentioned among them is beyond my comprehention. Vincent Price gives what I would consider the greatest performance of his long and distinguished career. The expression in his amazing voice, the look in his eyes, the sudden reversal of character near the end of the film...only a true genius such as Price could pull it off. Roger Corman does an equally amazing job behind the camera, capturing the essence of the cursed castle perfectly. Rarely will you see atmosphere created so flawlessly, however atmosphere is Corman's gift and he uses it to it's full advantage here. He spins a yarn of deciet, murder, insanity and death into one of the few perfect horror films. 10/10 |

Mr Combs was awesome as usual and the film still had the dark sense of humour I enjoyed in the other films. |

Pretty decent little psychological thriller with an interesting twist ending. This one flew completely under my radar. Was it ever even released in theaters? Overall: 7/10 |

Wolf Creek
Real nice Aussie flick with a raw TCM sort of a feel to it. The acting was fine but the thicker Australian accents can be tough to understand without the subtitles on. The violence looked raw and real some of the shit that happens is downright brutal! It's supposedly based on a true story but we all know how much that means and being that it's Australian, I have no idea what the real story is. Anyways, this "true story" followed a fairly straightforward horror plot (Teens stranded in middle of nowhere & terrorized) but had a couple nice touches of their own as well. All in all, I thought the gore was great, the acting and direction were also good and the overall scare value of this film is higher than most in the genre in terms of keeping you on edge. (Like High Tension sorta in that respect...) Anyways, all in all I really liked it. There's some crazy Aussies out there! A- |

V for Vendetta.
A job well done on the update/adaptation...I didn't like the story quite enough to add it to my collection, but it's a pretty decent movie. Nice score, solid acting...nothing bad to say about it really, but there's definately other vertigo titles I'd like to see on film more. |

The recent thread put this in my head...so I just watched:
Eraserhead Have you ever had the kind of nightmare where nothing particularly scary happens, yet for some reason you're still terrified? The kind of nightmare where nothing seems to make sence, yet in a strange kind of way it almost does? David Lynch has obviously had that kind of nightmare, and he has captured it in this truely surreal and strange film. Though seldom used, there are some very good special effects in the film, the "baby" being the most obvious and most disturbing. The directing by Mr. Lynch is truely amazing: the stark black and white, the dismal look of the city, and on top of all that, he brought out some amazing performances from the cast. Nance was great in the lead; he almost made you feel sorry for him, but not quite. Which I think was Lynch's purpose. Underneath all the beautiful and bizarre images however, Lynch hides messages that are still imporant in todays culture. He touches on topics like fatherhood, suicide, adultery, not to mention the overall state of the world. This is a great film, though I think it must be watched atleast twice for the full effect. 9/10 |
The Godfather

Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth
*Spoilers* Anthony Hickox's father, Douglas Hickox, directed one of my all-time favourite horror films, Theatre of Blood. When I saw the Hickox name appear in the opening credits, I thought maybe, just maybe, greatness could run in the family. Put simply: It doesn't. The two Hellraiser films up to this point were both very well done, different horror films. This, on the other hand, was likely made simply to cash in on Pinhead's icon status, and turn him in to another Freddy Krueger. Though it did start out pretty good, the more it told us the worse it got. The killing blow was when Capt. Spencer called Joey over to "his world". Made an already cheesy movie even worse, flashback and all. Shortly after that, they decide to break their own rules by killing a ton of innocent people. Make sense to you? Me neither. The new Cenobites were awful, especially the CD dude. They were definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel for that one. The film's two redeeming qualities were the incredible gore effects, and Doug Bradley. No matter how pointless and cheesy his character gets, this guy always puts on a good performance. As far as this series goes, stick with the first two. 4.5/10 |
The Haunting (1963)
A geniunely scary film, and what a classic. One of the best examples of "sometimes atmosphere is better". |

Shock:
Very cool Mario Bava ghost/possession flick, some really errie moments made this a great watch. I recomend it. April Fool's Day: I've always liked this film because it was a different spin on the slasher flick. I hadn't seen it in years and thought it was pretty cool with likable characters. Not nearly enough gore for my taste in slashers these days tho. Abominable Dr Phibes: Great stuff, my favorite Vincent Price film. Its got a bizarreness to it that makes it a really cool flick. This was one of the first horror films I ever saw as a kid and it was good paying it another visit after so long. |

Trail of the Pink Panther
*Very Minor Spoilers. Nothing that you wouldn't read on the back of the box though* After hearing the story behind this film, I was truly expecting an awful movie. Though it is by no means amazing and is easily the worst of the Sellers Panther movies, it wasn't all that bad. The opening, filled with archive footage of Sellers, was classic Pink Panther comedy, and had me rolling in my seat. The burning office was definitely a highlight. Once Clouseau's plane disappeared, however...so did most of the humour of this movie. The interviews were flat and boring, the plot was completely dropped, and nothing seemed to have a point. The clips from older Pink Panther films were usually hilarious, but nothing a Panther fan such as myself hasn't seen before. The only redeeming part of this section of the film was the scene with Clouseau's father. Though not nearly as funny as most anything in the other movies, Nana the dog was pretty amusing. Overall, stick with the other Sellers movies, you wont regret it. If you do watch it, be sure to stick around during the credits for a hilarious assortment of clips from through the series. 6.5/10 |
