Meh... This was a semi-entertaining CGI film, but these types of films are really losing their sense of awe. I remember back when Toy Story and Antz came out and it didn't even really matter if the plot was there because the film were just so visually fresh, it was something cool to watch. Now, these are starting to get somewhat stale and aside from Finding Nemo (Which was great) I haven't seen one in the last several years that really impressed me.

This one was okay, but nothing special. If you got little kids, they'll probably like it.

god i hated this movie.. so did my wife.
there IS a standard for CGI animation .. and although a lot of them look good ... they still have to have an engaging story and a more subtle approach.

Pr3ssur3 doesnt like the Screams, etc because of the 'smug self awareness' - well this is how i felt about chicken little ... tried too hard to be hip ... ended up being a smarmy mess.

bad characters, bad story, bad voice choices ... just a bad movie all around

Indeed.

And for some reason the describtion on the back of the cover had me believe it was a zombie movie. What a laugh.

Undead...Huge surprise...I LOVED this one...Aliens, 'zombies', LOTS of awesome gore (if you're into that), and even a bit of humor....Watched it twice, so that EVERYONE here got a chance to see it...Incredible... Check it out

Malevolence (2004)...Pretty good

I thought the 3rd was good [reviewed it last page, too], but the way #2 intertwines with the first one was simply genius. All three are great films, but they definatly decline IMO.

God this film blew.

Nosferatu, A Symphony of Terror

One of the few truely terrifying films ever made, Nosferatu is a classic film, pure and simple. The atmosphere is phenominal, just bristling with that early German style. Max Shrek looks incredible as Orlock, easily the most terrifying image of a vampire of all-time. As for the score, I saw the Type O Negative version. Very uneven, though at times it's truely amazing. In many scenes it seems very out of place, but in others such as the infamous Door scene, it fit perfectly and elevated the tension of an already scary scene. The actors werent very good, but it's not often you see a silent film with good actors. Overall this is one of the only films that can actually scare me. Though Dracula '31 is easily a better film, it doesnt even hold a candle to this in terms of pure scare factor.

8.5/10

PS - The DVD I have had a rather interesting introduction by David Carradine that I enjoyed.

Deep Impact

I watched Armageddon last night, and it made me want to see Deep Impact again, so I dusted off my VHS copy and watched it today. I think it's the superior of the 2 very similar movies. I enjoy the characters and ending a lot more...

I have seen both at least 10 times, but still cried at the end of them. :( I'm a sap.

I actually hate pirates of the caribbean, it got a good score just because Johnny depp was great in that one.

"but... why is the rum gone?"

And I really enjoyed national treasure

Agreed on PotC...Id probably give it a 6. aside from Johnny, I didnt like it much at all. Had a few decent parts, but not phenominal.

I just thought National Treasure was way too long, could have easily cut out at least half an hour.

newb 04-11-2006 06:19 AM

Take 1 cup of "The Ring", and a dash of "The Changelling",stir in a tablespoon of "Dark Water",add a pinch of "Devil's Backbone",shake it up and you have "The Dark" .
You would think with all those ingredients you would have a recipe for success but perhaps it was its unoriginality that brought it down.
Still not a bad movie, good acting, excellent locale with great atmosphere, just had a been there done that feeling to it.

urgeok 04-11-2006 06:21 AM

i thought Pirates of the Carribean was one of the most entertaining films i'd seen in ages....
It had more then Depp going for it .. Rush was fun as always and I have no problems with the way Bloom handled himself ..

great sword fight sequences, nice effects .. and yeah .. a terrific score.

I'm looking forward to the sequels.

i wasnt a big fan of national treasure .. its one of those films that is mildly entertaining while you're watching it, but you cant remember a damn thing that happened once it's over.

Parts of Pirates of the Carribean stay with me - and i've watched it several times since the first - and never get bored of it.

Posher778 04-11-2006 01:38 PM

well, although it was entertaining, it was very much unrealistic, IE, the complete stupidity of the guards and such, but even though it was meant to be... whatever. I also felt like they just went back and forth the whole time, which they did. Secret cove, sea, secret cove, island, sea, etc.

Well...Yeah...I mean in Cry Wolf, there were only a few possible outcomes to begin with, and WAY too many clues...

***POSSIBLE SPOILER***

Like when someone commented on how well the one girl did special effects, etcetera...The new guy was too obvious for a suspect, so he had to be ruled out...It pretty much unfolded when the affair was revealed...

just the way different people's thought processes work, I guess....As for Skeleton Key...

***MORE POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

I figured they had taken over the kids...and I knew that the old woman was the servant woman (the picture with the servant woman, where she's smoking cinched it)...I was just trying to figure out what was up with the husband...I knew the lawyer was involved, just not sure how...Yeah, I SHOULD have put that together, but I thought when they took the bodies, the body they left behind just died....So, that threw me off

***POSSIBLE LITTLE SPOILER THAT COULD RUIN THE WHOLE THING***......:p

As for Shattered...The first time I saw it, I was much younger...And yeah...It DID surprise me...I really believed the husband was the husband...Looking back, I really should have picked up on it...

Just watched Cube Zero...Again.....Noticed someone has lost my original Cube....Kinda pisses me off.....Also noticed, they didn't take Cube Zero:rolleyes: :D

Yes, quite a bit actually:)

Just watched Dominion: Exorcist Prequel

This was almost the exact same movie as Exorcist: The Beginning...It was made at the same time, and had most of the same people in it, even the same Father Merrin ...I don't get the point in making two of the same movie...But I did think that Dominion was slightly better...Dustin said, "Think of it like Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2, or Return Of The Living Dead and Return Of The Living Dead 2"...

...But...These two were made at the exact same time....

they made dominion but studio execs didn't like it (not gory enough) so they reshot the whole film with a new director (only the main actor remained)

The Prowler:

Definatley one of THE slasher flicks particulary for the head exploding scene! Great effects by Savini and a really cool ending.

The Curse Of The Screaming Dead:

Possibly THE worst zombie flick I've seen. Horrible as fuck dialogue, terrible acting, laughable gore complete with a H.G Lewis style warning at the start. Kinda fun if your into z-grade monster trash like me. If your gonna watch this I recomment fast fowarding till when the zombies make an appearance and make sure your really stonned and you might get a kick outta this particulary for the exploding firework zombie heads.

House Of 1000 Corpses:

Caught this on TV this morning.... as I've said about 1000 times I fuckin' love this flick! I've had Brick House stuck in my head all day :D

Oh...That explains it, I guess...Seemed like there was more than just the one guy that was the same, some of the scenes were identical....Anyway...Still kinda weird...

Theatre of Blood

Vincent Price meets Shakespeare to create one of the most memorable and greatest horror films of all-time. Edward Lionheart commits suicide after being shunned at the Critics Circle awards, but he miraculously survives...to take his gory revenge! This was easily one of Price's best roles, second only perhaps to Don Medina from Pit and the Pendulum. He essentially plays an exaggerated version of himself, which makes for some fine subtle humor. In fact dark comedy pervades this film, making for some very uncomfortable scenes. The gore and deaths are especially well done, all look very realistic and bloody. The writing was phenomenal, I love how they incorporated so many of Shakespeare's works into the film, even his lesser known works such as Cymbeline play important roles. To sum up, this is one of the all-time greatest horror films and is essential viewing for any horror fan.

9/10
