Well I mean I've been keeping up with a fair few DC and Marvel titles, even though I just skim them.
I'm collecting and waiting for Bubba Ho-Tep to end so I can slay it all at once. Same with Labyrinth - Coronation I'll say this sure has some beautiful covers...not even sure what the storyline is like yet, just that it's a "long ago" Jareth prequel of sorts. my love of the movie drove me to get this. Speaking of amazing covers, I have to say the Sandman-Verse looks great. Not sure, again, about the content or if it'll have any staying power, but damn it's nice to look at. I've got all the titles on my pick list. I'm glad to say I started reading something I'd dropped some time ago. Nightwing. Used to love the original run/s of the series set in Bludhaven. I don't know. Somewhere along the line, new 52 maybe...it just stopped being interesting to me, and this whole "he's a spy now" arc was just horrible... So basically all I saw of the character was across the Bat family titles. Then the one thing happened that was needed to make the character interesting to me again. He got shot in the head. Now he can't remember his time as Nightwing, his associations with heroes/villains, and sadly, Alfred who is still trying to reach out to him. He's now going by "Ric Grayson", the self destructive burnout barfly taxi driver, and at least at this point is not wanting to have anything to do with his "past life". Though it seems muscle memory and reflex to fight is still all there ready to engage on on autopilot when of course, trouble finds him. It's just...interesting for once...seeing the character with no ties to his former life, actually trying NOT to remember. I mean I'm sure it won't last, but it's a cool ride right now and good to see the character in this unfamiliar setting. #50 is a good jumping on point for this new storyline. |
Barnes and Noble have a buy 2 get 1 free on comic graphic novels. I'm going to see how much they discount them next week and might get some to read.

Just read the latest Batman annual.
Emotional. Good story too. |
The Heckler.
It only ran for 6...episodes? is that the right word? But it was so much quirky fun. Just as surreally satisfying as Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol at times. |

THE COMPLETE CALVIN AND HOBBES-Bill Watterson. Mammoth sized volume (22.5 LBS!) that has the 10 year span. Always liked reading CAH in the paper, but it's been awhile since I've looked. Still cannot believe how FUNNY some of the strips were::big grin::
|
"Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" #1.
This one's a bit more "Peter" focussed, and wasn't a bad read. Some interesting stuff going on. Some *very* interesting implications for those that read as far back as the "one more day" storyline. Classic deal with the devil shit going on here...and I'm hoping beyond hope that this potentially reverses certain things, but we'll see. |
Grant Morrison's run on Green Lantern has been killer so far.

Is that the current, very much back in space one?

Getting my Detective comics #1000 and the rest of my standing order today. So this will (largely) mark the end of my comics collecting career. I mean I'll get Detective #1001 after...and just let my standing order wind down until I'm done with the rest of the series on there *Gibson's Alien 3 *Bubba & the cosmic Blood Suckers *Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho Tep *The Immortal Hulk (which btw is an amazing return to much earlier form for the character and vibe of the comic) *Labyrinth: Coronation (last one today I think) Then I'm done. I only came back on board a couple years back to get the Action and Detective #1000 issues, and always had to maintain 4 titles at a time to have a standing order...so I am...done. |

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: THE WEDDING
Graphic novel of the events leading up to Peter Parker tying the knot with Mary Jane Watson |
|
So I read the latest walking dead...things didn't look good for Rick in the end of the last issue, and then...the first 5-6 pages of this issue?
Well holy hell. I'd also like to strongly recommend if anyone can still get their hands on a copy of (most retailers are limiting it to one per customer) Batman: Last Knight on Earth. If you're into alternative takes and Elseworlds kind of stuff...it's a really good read, and an imaginative sample of this kind of "spin" comic. |
From MONSTER BASH this past weekend,
CREEPY # 38 VAMPIRELLA #21 PSYCHO #15. Remember this from Sixth grade (Autumn 1973) and really liking it ("Special All Ghoul Horror Issue"). Has heald up pretty well and lots of good memories. Also a lot of MONSTER BASH magazines. |
Going some first-second year FANGORIA magazines. Once they settled into the direction that worked, they really had some good issues. Under "Uncle Bob" Martin, there was just such a sense of FUN.
|
BLAZING COMBAT-Edition of all four Warren Publishing magazines that died at the newsstand in the mid 60's as the stories presented war as an ugly and unhonorable undertaking. A couple of years before the Vietnam protests began, so being ahead of its time led to its being banned and not reaching sales that it should have. Great stories by Archie Goodwin and the awesome Warren Pub artwork, many who also did time with EC.
|
THE (BEST) WORST OF EERIE PUBLICATIONS-Mike Howlett. Brief history/21 story collection from the audacious ludicrous and outrageously bloody magazines from the last 60's-mid 70's. Good wholesome family fare-of course, this depends on your Family.....::big grin::
|
Got my MONSTER BASH collection all up to speed by getting those issues in the mail two days ago. Had also ordered two CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN back issue, but alas::sad::, someone else got them first!
|
MAUS-Art Spiegelman. Superlative graphic novel of Art obtaining history from his Father, a Holocaust survivor, who managed to survive and reunite with Art's mother, by a combination of wits and just plain luck. At the same time, the Father is in poor physical health, extremely OCD and no doubt, severe depression,
Very well produced and touching. |

Caught my eye, would love to read it. ::wink:: |
That's the one, yeah.
I believe they made a sequel comic too, though I never saw it. Well done book. |

Shiver: Junji Ito Selected Stories

MAD ABOUT THE SEVENTIES-MAD Magazine. Started reading MAD around Autumn of 1973 up to the early 80's enjoying its irreverence and great artwork. Lots of old memories in this compilation and even a mention of the "Finger" issue cover (with a picture) that offended many people, my Mom included::big grin::.
|
Horror comics I'm Reading
1. No Longer Human - Junji Ito's new Adaptation (INSANE)
2. Spiderweb Nightmare - B. D. Kepley (Unbelievable.... on my second reading and I just got my copy the other day) 3. Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein (waiting on my copy... can't wait to read this one!) |
Perusing my small collection of VAMPIRELLA issues.
|
DC Blacks "Batman - Three Jokers" Issue #2.
Yeah...this is a good read... |
Reading a stack of RETROFAN magazines which focuses on 60'-80's Pop culture with SO MUCH cool stuff covered...Rubik's cube, 8-Tracks, Stuckey's Restaurants, CHARLIE'S ANGELS, The Groovie Ghoulies, Ben Cooper Halloween Costumesoloring books, SHAFT etc etc.
Thanks to them, found out about The STAR TREK Original Series Set Tour in Ticonderoga NY, which the Mrs and I checked out. Pretty damn neat::smile:: |
The Filth, had this lying in my book collection for a while, very good art, and very cool subject matter.
|
Have four footlockers of magazines and started on the first one...all FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND and now into CREEPY magazine...think MONSTER WORLD and EERIE are after CREEPY and that's one down.
|
POGO'S DOUBLE SUNDAE-Walt Kelly. Irreverent comics, very much of the time.
|
Buddha by Osamu Tezuka

Deadly Class #45
Excellent. Great to see this one back. Looking forward to the 90s pop culture references. Friend Of The Devil Another solid one from Brubaker. No one does crime stories better. Walking Dead Deluxe #1 - #13 I only really read the first arc and a few key issues from the original versions so it's been great getting into this one. Looks great too. Oblivion Song - Chapters 1 - 5 (TPBs) Excellent meld of sci-fi and post apocalyptic themes. Started on the single issues awhile ago but put it aside but enjoyed binging it all in one go over a weekend. Space Riders #1 - #4 Fucking killer! Vivid crazy psychedelic art/colours and completely over the top sci-fi trash. Remember when Heavy Metal magazine used to be good? Nailbiter Returns #1 - #10 This did the self referential overblown action over substance sequel pretty well. |
Recently I tried Hellraiser comic but did not impress me that much, I do plan however to re-read "The thing" comic
