Both of those look fantastic, ESPECIALLY Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl. I hope it has a limited screening like TGP. I'd love to catch that one on the screen. That looks AMAZING. Thanks for posting!!

This is a bit upsetting.

The Novel was one of the best things I've read in a decade. Haunting, elegaic and soul-shattering...I found myself crying for quite a while after finishing the book - but the trailer shows the story has moved far away from the novel.

I'll still watch it opening weekend, because it is still incredibly daring material for a big-budget feature film and I hope it somehow approaches the awesome intensity of the book.

From what I've heard, this is just a terrible trailer. Supposedly the film retains the moodiness and slow pace of the book. Also, none of that news footage showing the endtimes is actually included.

Of course, I read that on the internet, so who knows? We'll keep our fingers crossed, though.

I'm with you on the book, by the way. Intense like no other.

Love the look of that Alice trailer.

I think it's going to be exactly as expected - Burton's style is very Wonderland inspired in the first place. Any fan of his work already knows exactly what this'll be like - and, personally, I can't wait to see it.

Definitely, I'm so excited for it, especially since it will be in 3D! :D

ChronoGrl 07-24-2009 08:31 AM

So obviously I haven't been paying THAT close attention because I didn't realize that it was being put out by Disney. I was REALLY hoping that it was going to be a dark, creepy macabre Alice in Wonderland. Poo.

Well, regardless, it looks amazing and I think I'll have to see it in the theater, though I still have my reservation after how awful Willy Wonka was.

fortunato 07-24-2009 04:22 PM

While I'm certainly excited for this, as much as I hate to admit it, and as much as I love a lot of Burton's work, I'm afraid that this is might be just a typical lame blockbuster simply washed in his vision. But not even his vision really...more like what people want to see of his vision. The stuff that they recognize. Plus a lot of CGI and special effects. I'm sure the film will look great, but there needs to be a force behind it all, and not just a lot of B.S. to sap Burton's vision. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory looked great too, but it was so unconvincing and impersonal.
Sweeney Todd was awesome because he didn't try to please anyone. I remember hearing about him sticking his foot down on a lot of issues. I'm afraid we won't see that here.

Oh well, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed until then.

The Hills Run Red

Dave Parker's The Hills Run Red will arrive on DVD from Warner Premiere & the producers of Gothica & Thir13en Ghosts at September 29, 2009.

The story centers on a film fanatic whose obsession with finding a complete print of an infamous slasher movie leads him and two friends into the backwoods where the film was shot. They realize too late that filming never ended -- and now they must survive a nightmarish onslaught or become part of the movie forever.

ChronoGrl 07-26-2009 04:11 PM

Seventh Moon.

Newest project by director Eduardo Sanchez, codirector of Blair Witch and sole director of Altered, a fantastic little indie gem.

Taking place during the Hungry Ghost Festival in China, two tourists are tormented by, well, hungry ghosts (or supernatural beings). I'm excited about another movie using the Hungry Ghost Festival as a vehicle (The Maid being a brilliant little foreign film) and am pretty excited to see this one as well. Good director. Interesting theme. And I love monsters. Hope it's good.

PANDORUM

Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It's pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the spacecraft. They can't remember anything - who are they, what is their mission? The only way out of the chamber is a dark and narrow airshaft. Corporal Bower (Ben Foster), the younger of the two, crawls inside, while the other, Lt. Payton (Dennis Quaid), stays behind for guidance on a radio transmitter. As Bower ventures deeper and deeper into the ship, he begins to uncover a terrifying reality. Slowly the spacecraft's shocking and deadly secrets come unraveled, and the astronauts realize that the survival of mankind hinges on their actions.

I think this teaser is a fake. They only just released the poster and the logo on the font isn't the same and it's going to be released on 12/18/09, not summer 2009. Also, the narrative of the teaser just doesn't really go with what plot they've released.

George A Romero's SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD

When the idyllic retreat of Plum Island falls victim to the zombie plague, a new breed of clan war breaks out. On one side is the camp who want to exterminate all undead with a wickedly diverse array of brain-splattering headshots. On the other, devoted family members take the stance that “zombie-ism” is a disease, the undead have rights and they must be kept alive until a cure is found.
Unable to simply “agree to disagree,” the two clans go to war and make their island microcosm a whole hell of a lot bloodier.

THE 4TH KIND ...In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document...until now.

Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where—mysteriously since the 1960s—a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.

Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.

Using never-before-seen archival footage that is integrated into the film, The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses. Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.

Rob Zombie's THE HAUNTED WORLD OF EL SUPERBEASTO ...features the voice talents of Paul Giamatti, Sheri Moon Zombie, Brian Posehn, Bill Moseley, Sid Haig, Danny Trejo, and Geoffrey Lewis.

The 2-D animated comedy arriving in stores on September 22, is based on the Spookshow International comic book "The Haunted World of El Superbeasto" created by Zombie, which follows the exploits of a washed-up Mexican wrestler, El Superbeasto, in the mythic world of Monsterland.

THE SHOCK LABYRINTH 3D ...Arriving in Japanese theaters on October 17 is Takashi Shimizu's (The Grudge, Marebito) latest genre pic, which follows a group of teenagers dealing with the sudden return of a friend who went missing a decade ago. When the friend falls ill, they take her to a hospital but end up trapped in a labyrinthine haunted house.

Loved these books when I was younger...shame they waited so long for the movie. Looks a bit kiddish, but should be decent enough (though John C. Reilly is possibly the worst casting choice ever for Larten Crepsley).
