Hmmm, I have always thought Phantasm was kind of creepy. The Tallman is enough to creep anyone out.

Distorty 09-10-2004 08:18 PM

Recently i was scared by Tesis (Thesis) A great spanish horror thriller. Check this out if you can its great.

MidgardDragon 09-14-2004 03:33 AM

Poltergeist did it for me when I was younger.

Nowadays I don't have one specific one, but here are some that freaked me out a bit:

(Anything with Freddy Kreuger, to start out with.)

The Ring (and Ringu)

The Eye

Audition

Last House on the Left

Has anyone ever listened to the commentary on the LHotL DVD? Both film-makers seem to kick themselves for making this, and seem to think it is trash, but I really liked it. It got down to that basest level of humanity and just how scary it can be. The same goes with Audition, though I'm still scratching my head about that one. But the girl in that one was one sadistic f*ck, at any rate.

SoUl SuRvIvOrS 09-14-2004 10:57 PM

First off The Grudge was awesome .... I thought...I have yet to find a movie that scares me... When I was younger my reply would have been Barney.. a purple dinosaur that sings...something is just not right there...would scare anyone I would think... Actually, alot of kids shows are twisted as hell no wonder they have issues;) ... At least we can still rely on good horror flicks to set them straight:p hehehe

wiseguy 09-14-2004 11:30 PM

when i was little, i watched in the dark with head phones on, so not to wake the entire house, Hell Night with Linda Blair. Scared the shit out of me.

nothing scares me now ... well apart from spiders.

tachii 09-15-2004 06:37 AM

Yeah, I just saw the trailer before "Resident Evil: Apocalypse", looks like its going to be one big part remake, but it should be interesting. I don't know how well the "Ju-on" format is going to play for American audiences. They're well made, but the plots don't ever seem to really go anywhere.

"As a child"? Fuck, I was a teenager when "It" was shown.

megalomaniac 09-15-2004 05:42 PM

the only movie to really freak me out was arcniphobia, i know that it wasnt scary but it freaked me out for a few days about spiders. but no horror movie has scared me really bad. maybe a few spots in the films made me jump but none really scared me

brianjohn 09-16-2004 03:15 PM

get into asian horror

I would agree the Exorcist still holds up years after it was made for chills, but Hollywood be warned the Japanese are coming - have a look at The Tale Of 2 Sisters for some good jump out of your seats moments and for sheer creepy atmosphere it has to be Dark Water (a great homage to Don't look now) and lastly for sheer gruesome and violent horror Audition - this film actually made me squirm and I had to look away from some of the torture scenes painfully brilliant filmmaking.

toolboxkiller 09-18-2004 08:06 AM

on my seventh birthday my parents knowing that even at that age i liked horror stuff randomly bought a movie called guess what......Hellraiser Hellbound 2 and my whole family was over at my house and i decided to play the movie, in the first 15 seconds of the movie the glass in my hand exploded, now any movie that would do that to me is one hell of a good horror.

horrorfan101 09-18-2004 08:31 PM

scared me

yea evil dead 2 was scary but i thik was the scariest was probably scream 1

How about Glitter?

OK, Seriously...
Dawn of the Dead, and I'll tell you why.
Because when I was eight years old, my babysitter thought it would be a great idea to take me and my six year old brother to see the Dawn of the Dead/Town That Dreaded Sundown double feature at the drive-in movie theater in Kent, Ohio.

Did I mention that I was eight?

(Side note: I think the scariness of The Exorcist is hugely over rated.)

Couldn't agree more about The Exorcist, that movie just never hit my scary bone at all.

As for scary horror movies, the last one that did it for me was Candyman. For some reason that just hit my scary bone.

Others that have done it for me are: Friday the 13th Part IV - Was my 12th birthday when I saw it and gave me nightmares.

Poltergeist - Was like 10 when I saw that (My mom could still kill my cousins for taking me to see that) and it gave me huge nightmares. Couldn't sleep with the lights off for a week!

As for anything more recent, nothing's really scared me. Most movies don't for whatever reason. Must be getting cynical in my old age. :)

mlauzon 10-20-2004 11:44 AM

For me, it would have to be "Children of the Corn", I saw this movie in early 1985 on video, was at a cousin's birthday party -- he was turning something in his early 20s -- and they rented this movie, mind you it was not the first horror movie I saw as that would have to be either "Happy Birthday To Me" or "Prom Night" and never had a problem (but now that I think back on it, it was "Prom Night" that I saw first). That all changed as I used to love to run through the corn fields as I lived in the country...after I saw this movie I never entered a corn field again, it's now 20yrs later and I still will never enter a corn field again; though I've got no problem eating corn on the cob!

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

OK, my absolute worst was this thing called "The Town that Dread Sundown." Its totally 70s and I saw it at the drive-in with my family when I was like, 5 or something. We didn't see all of it. I got so freaked out that I had a serious attack and we had to leave. "The Town that Dread Sundown".....brings back BAAAAD memories. Anyone seen it?

Top 3:
The Ring
Jaws
Gigli....no, wait...Town that Dread Sundown!

Hey Mlouzon! Killer Klowns is the greatest movie EVER!!! so therefore, you rule.

The Exorcist, that movie just never hit my scary bone at all.
There's always huge expectation before you see The Exorcist for the first time, such is it's notorious reputation for being outrageous, blasphemous, disgusting and scary.

Same goes for TCM, The Shining, Halloween, The Blair Witch Project etc. (though all for different reasons, but "terror" is a word often flung around with glee).

Trouble is, this build up invariably has the effect of crushing disappointment on the viewer who finally hopes to find out what all the fuss is about... perhaps it is because by the time you actually get round to sitting down in front of these movies ("OK guys, this is IT! Here we GO!"), you are far to well armed and defended against all the elements of it that should really hit the spot.

In recent years, watching The Blair Witch Project on video with next to no background information on either the film or the hype (apart from a very brief nose around the famous website) proved to be a fantastically scary and engrossing experience I hadn't had for years of watching movies - and I'm certain my lack of scepticism (not about the "is it real?" element, but how supposedly scary this film was meant up to be) helped this no end.

Back to The Exorcist, gotta love that horrible, yellowing, demonic little face and those ghastly sneers in a man's voice coming from a 12-year-old girl... brrrr!

VladTepes 10-21-2004 09:57 PM

There are four that scared me the most.

1. Black Christmas
2. Texas Chainsaw Massace(Original)
3. The Eye

EXTR3MIST 10-22-2004 03:06 AM

That fourth one was obviously so scary you couldn't bring yourself to type it!

Preacher 10-22-2004 03:25 AM

My choice now

Ju-on (Jap version) and Ju-on 2 if I can have another choice.

Ash x x

I saw that one around 2004, it is so much better than the 2006 remake, the only thing going for the remake is the hot Camilla Belle.

I actually just ordered the DVD from amazon for Christmas to finally get rid of the version I have on VHS and the guy from amazon shipped me the 2006 version. Sucks too because I despise the 2006 version more then Michael Jackson despises himself.

Did you contact Amazon after they shipped you the wrong one, did you get it replaced with the original?

No thats about as much use as a marzipone dildo.

Reality is shipping and handling cant be returned and thus youre paying double shipping and handling to get a replacement. Its not worth the trouble. I just need to reorder the original. Oh and when I did email the guy he says to me "actually you ordered the 2006 version".

Ummmm actually no I didnt buddy because id rather throw up all over my 50 inch high def LG plasma then watch that sack of cum 2006 hack version of When a Stranger Calls. Thanks for your great service you shite.

The first time I saw it was on TV, had no idea what I was watching, this was back in August or September of '83, I was 7, if you go a few posts back then you'll see this wasn't my first horror movie. The one thing that I was afraid of as a kid was Duneedon from the Canadian show: "Read All About It!", he was an alien and all you saw was his floating head.

NzBigC 01-29-2010 02:45 AM

I think the scariest film I have seen is the Japanese version of 'The Grudge', 'Ju on'. I cant remember if it was the first or second, but one scene made me cover my eyes, the first time I have done that since I can remember. Watching it at 2am probably helped its cause too.

Which once did you see exactly, because the film series goes like this:

Katasumi

4444444444

Ju-on (remake of Katasumi)

Ju-on 2 (remake of 4444444444)

Ju-on: The Grudge

Ju-on: The Grudge 2

Then the shitty American remake of Ju-on: The Grudge and sequels that have nothing to do with the originals, but are direct sequels to the shitty American remake.

dkwrtw 01-29-2010 05:17 AM

probably The Omen.

Dante'sInferno 01-29-2010 05:49 AM

Pumpkinhead when I was about 4 or 5, haven't been scared since anything since, really.

neotank 01-30-2010 10:00 PM

The Excorcist, easily.
