I really liked Pet Semetary, probably because I was so young when I saw it . What about Rose Red. Iknow it was a TV movie but it was still pretty good.

Yeah, but both were made to look like one of those old 50's horror comics

Ritualistic 09-01-2004 12:20 PM

Creepshow 1 and 2 are my favorites... I am also a fan of Apt Pupil, the shining and the dark half

CursedRatMonkey 09-01-2004 02:02 PM

The only segment horror film I like is creepshow.

MrShape 09-03-2004 05:25 AM

I still like Kubrik's "The Shining". The mini series was good as well, but too watered down for TV to effectively capture what is probably King's best novel.

CursedRatMonkey 09-03-2004 05:48 AM

The original shinning scared the crap out of me.
Well, the old lady anyway.and my old apartment didn't help much

MrShape 09-05-2004 12:28 PM

I thought the mini series reeked of network comprimise. If you read the book, that fight at the end between Jack and Wendy should have been a lot bloodier. And would someone get the word out that having a dead character make an angelic appearance at the end of the movie is really fuck'n corny. Not mention lame. A good try, but ultimately disappointing. Kubrick's version is still better.

gothicvamp1888 10-10-2004 05:36 AM

i like em all, but im a big king fan, but i find that the best adaptions from his books are always the mini series as they seem to take more of the book and put it in the series, when they make the movies they miss half the book out to make the movie fit within the two hour limit, the shining movie was good, but the mini series was more descriptive and actually followed the book more, but for moviesChristine was the best book and movie.

EXTR3MIST 10-19-2004 05:02 AM

Agreed, King's books generally make better mini-series' than feature films - this is because he writes about people more than out-and-out horror, and expectant cinema crowds are not going to wait while characters are fleshed out as much as they need to me to make many of King's screen adaptations work.

Of course there are still movie winners like Carrie, The Dead Zone and The Shining -

Reason Jack Nicholson's performance is often criticised, LIVING/DEAD, is his lunatic over-acting right from the word go; once the audience spies him in the role of Jack Torrence it is apparent all is not well upstairs... recovering alcoholic or not. This performance is at odds with the scintilating book, where Torrance is gradually and more subtly played as a pawn by the evil within the hotel (which is the star) rather than becoming a simmering, demonic, axe-wielding monster at the drop of a hat.

But, Nicholson, Duvall and the kid still make for a superb horror movie however far removed it is from Stephen King's original vision.

knee jerk 10-22-2004 08:37 AM

King's books always have great ideas and horrible endings. The guy can't end a story. You know that cool band in your town that writes cool songs but then each one goes on for like 5 minutes and your just like "o.k., let's wrap this up." That's what King is like. And that's probably why his movies are pretty horrible too.
But some are pretty alright.
Silver Bullet (c'mon...its Gary Busey!!!)
Dead Zone (Chris Walken)
the Shining (JACK!)
yeah...that's really about it....
except for his really great movies that aren't horror movies...
Stand By Me and the Shawshank Redemption

knee jerk 10-22-2004 08:41 AM

Oh yeah, forgot about "Apt Pupil."
Again, a great performance by a great actor, Sir Ian McKellan, saves the day.

wufong 10-22-2004 08:45 AM

i like a few, but with out a doubt saloms lot, probably the best vampire movie ever made. imho and thats all that matters hey?

urgeok 11-28-2004 11:25 AM
