One of my new games has the paint peeling off the disc. Could that be caused from playing the game too much and leaving my system on all day? ::confused::
|
Perhaps but either way it's not good for you to leave your system on that long. I mean I know they are designed to get many hours of gameplay but just letting them sit like that isn't good.. I keep mine in rest mode when I'm not using it that way it is off but if any updates or anything like that become available they will download automatically.

But back to Shenmue, I think a lot of the hype was the Japanese setting and graphics at the time. I don't think the games sold that well. It wasn't the best "game" if you are looking for pure gameplay. The arcade games in them are more fun than the actual Shenmue game. But I think for people that wanted to go or live in Japan, being able to walk around a small town and explore stuff made the game worthwhile. I remember fans being upset about not getting Part 2 on Dreamcast. I might end up getting the new collection on PS4. It will probably feel like a nostalgia trip. Finishing Part 2 will help me decide if I want to get Part 3. |

Are those anything like the Tenchu games? I used to have a friend that was really into those. I watched him play them but I never really found them very amusing. I mean I'm into slower-paced games because of my eyes but it just seems a little too slow-paced for me. It's weird because up until PS3, I loved the Metal Gear Solid games and those required a lot of stealth and sneaking as well.

Yakuza is kind of similar to games like Grand Theft Auto and Sleeping Dogs. You get to explore a whole city and fight street gangs and yakuza mobsters with martial arts and you can level up to increase your stats and abilities. You also get to shop at stores for supplies, eat at restaurants and food vendors and drink at bars to heal yourself, and play a lot of mini games like bowling, fishing, pool, darts, arcade games, casino games, and Japanese gambling hall games. You also have sexy nightlife stuff like strip clubs, Asian massage parlors, and Japanese hostess clubs. The one thing it doesn't have is driving around in vehicles, but you are exploring such a crowded district of Tokyo full of people walking the streets that driving around wouldn't make any sense. That's how the Yakuza games are, but I have never played a Shenmue game so I don't know if it's exactly the same. Probably not if it's rated T instead of M. |

You know, I'm starting to think maybe I was too impulsive about buying this new PS4. It really isn't as great as I thought it would be.
Hell I can't even do the things on this system that I could do on my old PS3 like download videos and free themes off the internet. Plus it sucks that the PS4 has no backwards capability for playing PS3 games. I feel like this new system basically took a step backwards in progress. I guess the only thing gamers today really care about is brand new graphics? Meh, I might take a long break from video games and maybe see about finishing all the episodes of that new reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on Netflix. |
It's not really part of Playstations model to support backwards compatability since last (ps3) gen.

My biggest problem with the PS4 isn't so much the backwards compatibility as much as it is the fact that it doesn't even have the same awesome features that the PS3 did. No free online gaming (not that I ever play games online anyways), no downloading MP4 and AVI videos or free custom-made themes off the internet, no PSOne classics from the Playstation Network Store, etc. I'm not even sure that this system allows you to play imported games from other countries like the PS3 did. I really liked the PS3 better. But I'm stuck with my PS4 so I might as well enjoy the games I have for it. |
I kind of agree.
The PS4 is *capable* of those things, but doesn't seem to do them yet. Backwards compatability I understand - with each generation advancing as much as it does, it's about hardware rather than emulation/software at this stage anyway. You'd end up with a much larger macine required and likely have poor ventillation leading to system killing overheating. I dunno, maybe xbox does it differently and encounters less issues. I actually worked customer support and forums with Playstation when the 3 came out - and yeah that's largely the reason they gave us for why they canned backwards compatability with ps2 stuff...basically many of the original model ps3s were fucking up due to overheating etc, so they reduced factors in play, one of which was BC. As for the other things like video/music files etc, yeah I see what you mean. In my mind, while it's been a long time coming, I think they'll probably include these kind of features in future updates - the ps3 didn't have as many features in the beginning either. What I'd like to see is more quality games. In my mind the ps4 hasn't had anything all that outstanding...I mean Uncharted 4 & 4.5 were pretty good, they've done some interesting horror stuff, but nothing really makes it stand head and shoulders above others in my opinion. The ps3 had much better games out by this stage in its life. This is the kind of stuff I worry about. |

I guess all this new technology for new games and new HD TVs is making it impossible to enjoy the classics. ::sad:: And yeah I'd like to see more quality games too, or rather more "variety" of games. It feels to me like every single new game that comes out is either a copycat of other games or another sequel to a tired-out franchise. It doesn't feel like we get original games anymore because they are all pretty much the same. I wish we would get more creative games like Tokyo Jungle instead of more Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, and Resident Evil 4 wannabes and sequels. |
I try to stick to playing games on the system they were created on. I'm usually not fond of older games on modern displays. That's why I wish Sony would make an old tube TV or at least a display for the older resolution systems. But they aren't the TV company they used to be.
|
You know what I really wish? I wish somebody could make one game system that allows you to download and play every single video game ever made. I really hate having to buy separate game systems or old systems just to play all of my favorite games.
|
If Sega did it, I'd buy it in a second - though I'd buy just about anything they'd drum out, ever again.
I mean some consoles try for something like this, virtual arcade and whatever nintendo did...but it's never quite fully realised or supported, nor are entire libraries available. It's annoying. |
I know I would kill to be able to play all my favorite classic survival horror games on one system. Games like Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, remake, 0, outbreak, Silent Hill 1, 2, 3, 4, Fatal Frame 1, 2, 3, Siren 1, 2(which was never released in the U.S.), blood curse, Haunting Ground, etc.
I really miss the days when they made more games like this. Honestly I feel like most of the new survival horror games that get released today don't feel the same as those. I do like the pixel horror games for the PS4 like Lone Survivor, Home, and Uncanny Valley though. |
You know, I think I might try to get another PS3 system. It might be worth it to have both a PS3 and a PS4 so I can play all the games I like for both systems.
The PS3 has a lot of really nice PSone and PS2 classics I like to download and play and I could get Yakuza 4 (in case it never gets re-release here in the US for the PS4) and Yakuza Dead Souls (an underrated game that will not ever get re-released). I might can even import some games to have on disc like Way of the Samurai 4 and Siren Blood Curse. ::smile:: |
