As I slowly walked(almost zombie-like) to the tarnished glow, I found myself crouching as the ceiling got lower....good Lord, not another tunnel! Where would this one lead to?
I started crawling through the tunnel. Normally, I would feel claustrophobic but because I am under some unexplainable spell, I feel nothing but the thoughts of moving forward. Where the hell was I being summoned to?
Then just as I thought the tunnel would get to small for my shoulders, I pulled myself through a small opening into the room the small light was coming from. I worked my way to my feet looking slowly around the room for any danger. The music had become louder as I crawled through the tunnel and now it was blaring.
The oddest compulsion crossed my mind to quickly turn around and go back the way I had come. Then a door on the other side of the room swung open.
As my mind was still trying to sort through the thought to leave and the sound of the door banging against the wall a flash shot through the door and before I could react a giant hand wrapped its fingers around my body. I tried to scream out but it was squeezing so tightly that I couldn't get the wind.
That was the last straw...the weirdness of this all! I went totally limp and surrendered to the engulfing hand. Afterall, sometimes when its all too much, don't we just crave someone to take over?
What were the odds that I was be taken away by King Kong? How did he even find me in this tunnel? Maybe there's some kind of invisible hallucinogenic floating in the air and all of this is just a really bad dream. I feel like I should be in an insane asylum; I am being squeezed by a giant hand, I hear really loud music, and I just caught a glimpse of an elf running down another tunnel.
"Sir! Sir? Can you tell us your name?" The doctor gently shook the man in the straitjacket but got no response. "What time did they bring him in?" he asked of the nurse. "During the night. They found him flailing around outside some poor woman's house. Screamin' about tunnels and giant trees. The woman called the police. Odd clothes though, real old fashioned-like".
Well what ever happened to him must have happened in the woods we found leaves and dirt all over him when we picked him up.
The doctor appeared to be deep in thought as he stared at the patient. "You know this isn't the first time I've heard of this happening. Seems to me, years back, a old woman was found in this state. Same thing, covered in debris from a forest.
"We won't be able to truly question him until he is fully awake. Go ahead and give him something to help him go back to sleep, I feel he needs more rest at this time. Mean while, I am going back to my office and see if I can dig up any information on the old woman."
The nurse replied, "Okay. Should we still keep him strapped up?" "Yes, I do not trust him right now." |
"Do you think he's dangerous?" the nurse asked. "Well, probably more to himself than us...at any rate I'll be in my office if you need me."
I was processing the conversation between the nurse and the doctor. Why was I strapped up and where was I now? But a divine sleepiness started to muddle my thoughts... |
The next thing I knew my eyes where opening slowly to a well lit room. There where windows along the far wall with bars on them, and bright fluorescents overhead despite the sunlight surging in through the windows. I tried to reach up to rub this dizzy feeling out of my head but my arms where still bound.
I struggled for a minute but then fell complacent. I was safe, warm...why struggle? No crazy hallucinations..alien women and rooms under trees! Then I saw the thing in the corner of the room...
It wasn't moving short of the swelling of its body with every choked breath. I couldn't tell what it was but it was hairy all over and made sort of a snarling sound when it exhaled. I thought about trying to get out, but it may hear me.
I had to risk it I began to move slowly.

I began to run but then......
I realized I was still chained to the bed by my wrists. When I took off the bed lurched forward and caught in the door. The beast charged me from the corner.
It slashed at my wrists and face I was doomed.
Just then the chains broke free and I plummeted to the ground screaming in pain. The doctors rushed down the hall towards me as I realized there where no cuts and no blood.
The doctor injected me with a sedative.
I screamed a flailed as the large men held me to the ground. The sedative kicked in all of a sudden and I felt my body go limp. My eyes fuzzed over but I did not lose consciousness. I asked in a garbled, slurred voice "Whats happening to me".
My eyes finally glazed over. I finally reawakened. I found myself in a different room.
This time I was not tied down. I looked around as I regained my bearings. I was sitting up on a bed, or gurney. The room was round and about ten feet off the ground there was theater seating going up from there. I knew I had seen this before, but where?

Dirt was on the floor, tree roots were coming through the ceiling. I finally remembered.
I was in the room under the woods where the ground swallowed me up. As I sat there trying to pull these dark memories out of my head a door swung open and in walked another doctor. But something was different about her, she looked familiar as well. The roots above me stretched out and wrapped themselves around my wrists and ankles.
I then saw liza. She was laughing like crazy not that she was already.
Back at the hospital, the doctor stared incredulously into the missing patient's room. "Good God" he thought to himself "It's happened again!". The file he had looked up on the old woman who had showed up under similar circumstances years ago...she ,too, had simply vanished.
What could this mean? The words repeated several times in the doctors mind
