Dead Bad Things 01-14-2015 12:01 PM

I'd try Eddie the sleepwalking cannibal, Drive in horror show, and Quarantine.

We've seen Quarantine. I loved it, he didn't. However, I haven't heard of the other two so I'll definitely add these to the list. Thank you so much!!!

It's the original -- the remake is called Let Me In. It's good too though, and if he's not into subtitles, you could go straight to that one. The original is better though, albeit has a colder tone to it.

Okay, thanks! I would prefer the original anyway, so we'll do that.

Almost forgot: Cabin in the Woods. It's hard not to like this one. ::love::

I made a small mistake.
Asmodexia and REC are serious horror movies, not funny ones. Bust still great.
REC is in fact the Spanish and original version of Quaratine.
Haven't seen Quarantine but I think most people agree the original's better.

I highly recommend REC. It's one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. Quarantine is meh. Still pretty scary, but not as brutal or effective as the original.

We have actually seen both. REC is definitely better in my opinion. But.....haven't seen that other one! Thanks again!

If you've ever seen Cannibal Holocaust, that one is horrific. It's one of the only movies I've had to turn off before finishing it (which I never did).

Its easy to dislike that one, especially if you don't like modern, the actors are so obnoxious in that film I couldn't stand it.

I second Dead Snow, Fido, Blood Runs Cold, Trick R Treat.

I saw it in the theater but can't remember if I liked it or not. Lol! We have seen Dead Snow, Fido and Trick R Treat but not Blood Runs Cold. Will add it to the list. Thanks!!!

The first time I watched Cabin in the Woods a couple years ago, I didn't like it at all for the same reason. I might need to revisit it because my tastes and expectations have changed.

horrorpsycho 01-15-2015 08:12 AM

So I went home last night with the list of movies and asked him which of them he's already seen. I removed them from the list and now have a solid list to go from. I listed them all on my blog: https://horrorpsycho.wordpress.com/

I'll be reviewing them as I go too. Thanks again everyone so much for the input!!!!!

Angra 01-16-2015 07:10 AM

Definitely! We're watching the first either tonight or tomorrow so I'll update my blog with the review and let y'all know what he thought. I'm thinking of starting with one of yours actually...In the Mouth of Madness. I noticed a couple people approved of that suggestion.

Cool.

If he dislike that one I'd say dump the loser. 😁

LOL! I'm worried too because we watched the trailer and I could already see his disapproval. We'll see how it goes. haha

Ah man, that's a good one. He certainly shouldn't be able to complain that it's an uninspired re-tread. It's a good suggestion.

However, I don't know that it necessarily qualifies as the modern stuff that he seems to disapprove of. It's somewhat old and almost has an 80s feel to it (well, early nineties is practically 80s). Another reason why he ought to like it, but also not terribly representative of "modern."

Hmmm.....good point. I'll see what he thinks. It looks like it was 1994.

Maybe it's a good starting point. It has some pretty over-the-top acting and old-school special effects, which to me feels more like 80s than the trends that started in the 90s (post-modern a la Natural Born Killers, Scream, Jacob's Ladder, or more gritty/realistic a la Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, Blair Witch, etc.). Regardless, whether it's for your contest or not, it's a must watch for horror fans.

So unfortunately In the Mouth of Madness didn't go over too well. He was actually pretty hopeful because it was a John Carpenter movie. His reasoning? He thinks it's just a rehash of all of John Carpenter's prior movies done in a really poor way. I'm bummed. But, what did I tell you? PICKY, PICKY! I liked it though. It's probably something I wouldn't buy, but I'd watch it again. Anyway....back to the list. Crossing my fingers still. I'll have my review up tomorrow on my blog.

Those are his favorites probably.

His tastes lay pretty close to mine. You wrote any post 1990 film? That's the trick, isn't it?

Then that would be:

The Sixth Sense
Jacob's Ladder
Se7en
Silence of the Lambs
The Ring 2002
Dead Silence (not a 4 star, but scary & decent)
The Cabin in the Woods

Yup! So he's actually seen most of these with the exception of Dead Silence and The Cabin in the Woods. I'll add them to the list. Thanks!!!
