It had an interesting approach rather than just being the usual standard low budget affair.

I'd like to give a shout out to two independent and well-done zombie movies:

American Zombie (2007) - Mockumentary about a Zombie Community. Really well-crafted and acted.

ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction (2009) - Lots of fun.

And as for personal favorites, I love Shaun of the Dead and 28 Weeks Later (if you want to call that a "zombie" movie vs. an "infection" movie).

Does Night of the Comet count as a zombie movie? Also adore that one.

The hubby watches and rewatches the Dawn of the Dead remake a lot, so I've grown fond of that one too.

Night of the Living Dead is such a classic to me; I had so many nightmares of being stalked by slow-moving corpses as a kid (I'd always climb trees to escape them - Can Romero zombies climb trees?)

I don't for a second believe it just cost $75 to make ..

it either cost nothing (all time, etc was donated) or it cost more

it just sounds cool when marketing

but yeah - it was very well done

I love it when you can be manipulated into feeling sorry for what is traditionally the bad guy

I've been waiting for that to be worked into the zombie genre more often along with the idea of intelligent zombies like the dude from Land of the Dead.

Dug it a lot. I'm pretty harsh on horror comedies but that one was just really sharp. Brilliant stuff.

My favourite genre - although not the newer wave of fast-moving-zombie films being churned out seemingly on a weekly basis! Dawn of the Dead remake excepted - that is awesome, with one of the best starts to any film ever!
My faves are:
Zombie flesh eaters (uncut of course!)
Living dead at the manchester morgue (creepy)
Dawn of the dead (original)
city of the Living Dead
dawn of the mummy (great finale)
the beyond
And of the non traditional ones......
dead and buried
demons

Bound to have forgotten some.
and all IMHO of course!
Any suggestions similar to these for me to seek out gratefully accepted!

LOVE Zombie flicks and here is my Top Ten...
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968)-All time favorite film period. Still scary as hell. 1990 remake isn't really necessary, but worth seeing.
DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978). excellent film by Romero and saw this at many "Midnight Movies" in the early 80's and always brought new "victims" to experience it. Been to Pittsburgh twice (1995 KISS KONVENTION and 2007 MONSTER BASH) and HAD to visit The Monroeville Mall.
DAY OF THE DEAD (1985). Was psyched to see this in the theatres and was really let down by it. A couple of years went by and a video rental got me back on track and I really started liking it more. After reading about the problems George had making it, my appreciation continued to rise and while it's not as good as the first two, certainly great and Savini's FX is awesome.
RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD (1985). Prefer my zombies slower, but this is so wacky and frantic that I can overlook that.
RE-ANIMATOR (1985). Don't recall seeing this on previous posts for this thread. Ballsy as hell and certainly tasteless.
DAWN OF THE DEAD (2004). One of the best remakes ever.
28 WEEKS LATER (200-?) Liked 28 DAYS LATER, but think this is better. Good performances by all, especially Robert Carlyle and Jeremy Renner.
SUGAR HILL (1973). Cheesy AIP flick, but the zombies are pretty scary.
ZOMBIE (1979). My favorite Fulci flick and as I mentioned in another post, one of the best gross outs ever.
NIGHT OF THE CREEPS (1986)/ DEAD ALIVE (1992)-Had to make it a tie for #10 Really like these ...funny, awesome FX for the budget and I actually like the characters a lot too.

Dead Snow - very entertaining
World War Z - fast zombies freak me out!
Dawn of the Dead (both versions) - I just like the story line
Day of the Dead (both versions) - they're fun
Land of the Dead - smart zombies freak me out!
Resident Evil series - love them!!

Zombie movies are my least favorite types of horror movies, but I really liked REC and 28 Days Later.
