It's iced, cinnamony and crisp...It's amazing

I'm going to send the last of mine to Hammerfan, but if I ever get anymore (my mother gave me this, and I'm not sure where she got it), I will send you some :)

The first book box has arrived! It's chock full of goodies! 3 DVDS- Tsui Mark's Vampire Hunters, a double feature of Eaten Alive and Crucible of Horror and a double feature of The Crawling Eye and The Killer Shrews. There were also a good 2 dozen books- hardcovers and paperbacks- some Peter Straub, Dean Koontz, John Saul and a variety of lesser known names- horror novels, an anthology edited by Robert Bloch, some mysteries and thrillers, some fantasy and more!

It'll keep me reading for years! Thanks very much Rayne and Dude! It's very much appreciated. It's the best Christmas I ever had!

Not to mention, it was so well packed I can't figure out how to get them back in the box and fit right...

Holy hell that's some fantastic stuff! Great haul there.

I can't wait for mine! Hurry up, postman.

Rayne is amazingly good at that. If I pack a box, I usually fill empty spaces with paper or something. If she sees a space big enough to hold a book, she'll find a way to fit three more into it.

I'm glad you like stuff :D

_____V_____ 06-07-2011 02:55 AM

The mailman cometh! Just when I reached home for a late lunch, he was about to ring the bell.

24 books (yes, you read that right!) and 3 DVDs! It felt like a minor treasure box when me and the wife opened the lids and peered in!

All of them are in pretty good condition, some of them feel brand new!

21 paperbacks and 3 hardcovers. The 3 hardcovers are short-story/novella collections, and so are 6 of the paperbacks.

The rest are novels, except 1 book which is a real life exploration of a city and the mysterious and bizarre stories associated with it, called "Mysterious Knoxville" written by Charles Edwin Price.

Here they are, stacked neatly on the sewing machine table (only empty table I could find for a decent picture) -

First row -

Second row -

Third row (of sorts) -

And the DVDs -

Thanks a ton, Rayne! These will keep me awake for many nights to come. Like NE said, it's a fantastic gift and one which I will treasure for sure.

neverending 06-07-2011 06:04 AM

Wow- great stuff! Those anthologies look really great. I'm sure I used to have the Cthulhu one.

_____V_____ 06-07-2011 09:24 AM

Yes there are some really good stories in the Anthologies. Satellite is a tad slow tonight, so I ll put up some more pics of the Anthologies' contents tomorrow.

My instant favorite is the Reader's Digest: Great Stories of Mystery of Suspense, Volume II (the third row pic, standing hardcover book beside Mysterious Knoxville). It has some of the most fantastic novels which I had been searching for a long time.

Wish come true. I am starting on it tonight. :)

neverending 06-07-2011 09:52 AM

Uh- make sure it's not one of their "condensed books" - where they reduce the word count to fit more books into one volume. Believe it or not, this was a very popular activity for them at one point.

_____V_____ 06-07-2011 10:17 AM

:(

As soon as I saw your reply, I grabbed the book and...damn! There it was, in the second page itself, one small line "condensed by Reader's Digest Authors"!

Funny though, the other RD's Hardcover Anthology volume (Great True Stories of Crime, Mystery and Detection) isn't a condensed version of the stories within it. Neither is the Doubleday Hardcover one.

Grrrr!

Rayne 06-09-2011 10:22 PM

Aww, I'm so glad that you guys liked your boxes :)

I'm a little concerned about Ferret's now, but hopefully he will get it soon

@Avi: I was afraid your storms would delay your box, so I am relieved that you received it...I was also afraid that I might have filled out the customs forms incorrectly, so now I'm not as worried about Roshiq's...*whew* That's a relief, too...I can't believe you posted pictures...lol...OH, and I didn't know about the condensed thing either, I mean I never really paid attention :/

Oh...AND...Your package is now officially the FIRST package that I have successfully shipped outside of the United States...WOOHOO! :D

Ferret's and Roshiq's are now in a race for second place ...lol

***UPDATE***

Tomorrow, around 3pm EST, I will have sent out all of the boxes that I have remaining addresses for...Soooo, I need more addresses, if anyone wants some books.

@Hammerfan: I don't have your address anymore, it's been YEARS ...So, I can send out your apple tea on Saturday if you send me your address.

@Crabapple: I plan to send you something (I can add books, if you like), but I need to know if your address is still the same as what was written on the last thing you sent me...If it has changed, please send me your new one.

You guys have NO idea how much fun I'm having with this! :D

Almost forgot: Avi, did you see the book that says, "AVI" on it?...lol

I LOVE anthologies...They are especially convenient when you have kids :)

crabapple 06-10-2011 05:52 AM

Thanks for thinking of me, Rayne!! So nice and thoughtful of you. Address is still the same. You don't have to put books in the box, though--I have too many books right now! Many, many of them. Send some zombies and vampires instead though!

Best wishes...

ferretchucker 06-10-2011 06:33 AM

How did I miss all the updates in this thread? No word of a package for me JUST yet, but Royal Mail is notorious for being useless. Hopefully it'll come some time in the week :)

Those hauls look FANTASTIC though!

crabapple 06-10-2011 05:16 PM

Just think, ferret, you could be reading the awwesomest weasel ghost stories sometime soon! Scaredy!

I am really glad the postal service was still working through it all. And I got your forms with me. Very much complete and in order!

I really love all the books you sent me, plus I wanted to post them here for others. Felt lazy about making a long list, so the pics.

Not your fault. Damn Reader's Digest people!

At least I got an edition of those books though, even though they are condensed. I didn't own any of them before that day.

"GO RAYNE!" :D

Yes. I had absolutely no idea there existed an author called Avi, before I got that book.

Finished the Poe book in two nights flat. Started on the 21 Short Stories last night. :)

nightmare_of _death 06-13-2011 01:28 PM

The Villain 06-14-2011 11:22 AM

Went outside today and my door bumped into something. I looked down and was surprised and excited to see the box from Rayne!

Lots of great stuff in there. Tons of books and a DVD that i've never seen. I've only read one of the books, The Dark Tower-The Gunslinger but have been meaning to read the second one which is included as well. Also some interesting horror novels, a bunch of crime novels which i love and even a short story collection of Tall Tales. Can't wait to read all of these, they all sound really interesting. Thanks a lot Rayne, you are awesome.

ferretchucker 06-17-2011 06:56 AM

The beautiful book box (which really is filled to the brim!) is currently sitting next to me on my bed. Can't wait to get stuck into these bad boys over summer! Taken some pictures which I'll definitely post later. Thanks ever so much Rayne, you really are too kind sending these to us :)

Rayne 06-17-2011 07:43 AM

I'm really happy that you guys are having fun with this, too!

I hope Roshiq gets his soon...I'm sending Hammerfan a non-book box tomorrow :p...Crabby's will be sometime this week (I have to go get the stuff I want to send him)

I really need more addresses now...I think I'm addicted :D

ferretchucker 06-17-2011 08:01 AM

You could quite possibly start up a website doing this. It'd be a great concept. "BookRoulette" :D Charge people £10 per box (obviously, size them down ;)) and spread the joy!

newb 06-17-2011 08:15 AM

kudo's to Rayne

you really are a great person ;)

Fearonsarms 06-19-2011 01:41 PM

Seconded :)

Rayne 06-20-2011 02:08 PM

I'm a little bummed now because I have no one else to send anything to :(

OH!...Someone has a book with a black fingerprint on the edge of the pages...That's the black paint that I painted my kitchen cabinets with, and it's MY thumb print...So...Make sure you don't drop that book at any crime scenes :p

neverending 06-20-2011 02:50 PM

Oh, that could make a great plot device...

My box came today!! OMG, the cats LOVE the toys!! Lucy and Cherokee say "meow, meow, meow!!!" which translates to "Thank you Rayne!". I'm going to wait until this weekend to make the tea, so that I can take my time with it. But it smells divine! I could smell it before I even opened the box. I know what movies I'm watching this weekend! :D

Thank you so much, my darling!!! *mwah*

crabapple 06-22-2011 10:09 PM

Rayne, you outrageously friendly person! How nice of you to send me all those cans of Cincinnati chili with spaghetti! Oh my goodness, I can share with friends out here, this magical mixture you have introduced me to! Thank you a million and one, hon! :)

Rayne 06-23-2011 12:05 PM

I'm glad that your boxes arrived safely...Enjoy them :)

Now...What has happened to Roshiq's box?...Hmmm

Oh, darling...Today I went to our nearest post office and as soon as I entered there I saw a box lying under a table with bunch of other packages. I noticed it so easily as the name on its red cover says ....."Sanjid"...OMG! It's me! That's Rayne's package! I didn't expect to find it there so easily. But the fun part begins after the discovery...
Anyway, as I boldly called one of the stuffs & preparing for a heavy hot headed argument "Why the hell my package is still lying on your floor?"
A stuff came to me & as soon as I pointed the package to him & said that's mine...he bring it up on a table & says "What's your address?"
I thought he was trying to check the authenticity of my claim...so I told him in detail but in the midway he stopped me and said..."Sorry sir, the address is incorrect! It wasn't possible for us to send it at your house!"

Then he showed it to me. The thing is there are 2 important parts in the address...the house no. & the road no. of our area. Like mine is House no. 17 & Road no. 13.
But darling, most probably by mistakenly you make it short and only wrote "House no. 13!"
And as there's 14 officially listed roads in our zone where House#13 is common in many so they didn't felt it safe to knock every 13 no. house in all the roads. Moreover, my house no. is 17 in road 13.:D

Anyway, thank god finally the package came to my hand safely and Thank You so much for these awesome collection of Horror books! In total 23 including Rayne's special selection for me:o Grimm's Grimmest! And a DVD...ZOMBIE NIGHT!

I wish I could take a month long vacation & read all of them one by one! Amazing stuffs!

I'll put my best effort to treasure them always with me...even that sweet little beautiful note of yours. :)

Thank you, Rayne. Thanks a lot.

ferretchucker 07-29-2011 05:10 PM

At least it reached you, Roshiq :)

Rayne, I can't stress enough what a lovely thing this is you're doing for us all! I'm loving the latest editions to my bookshelf - and what a great time to have them too - a whole summer before I have to return to 5 days a week schooling!

Rayne 09-20-2011 09:41 PM

I'm sooo late getting back to this!...I am very happy that my old books are now in several countries...That is awesome!...I am even more happy that I could share something with all of you, it's almost like being able to touch you...Wish I could give you a hug <3

I'm sorry about the mix-up, Roshiq...I honestly thought that I copied everything word/number for word/number...There were so many boxes on those forms, addresses are much simpler here...lol...I am so very glad that you went to check :)

One more is floating around out there in the United States right now...Should arrive soon.

Despare 09-21-2011 07:48 AM

I just got mine! Very cool package filled with goodies. Thanks! I'm excited to get into a few of these and with winter coming quicker than I thought looks like I might find time.
