It depends if you count Texas Chainsaw Massacre, not sure what else it could be, so it will be included.
5. Child's Play (1988) 4. Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007) 3. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) 2. A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) 1. Halloween (1978) |
I Saw The New Halloween 'remake' And Thought That It Was The Worst Hour And Half Of Film. A Complete Waste Of Time. If It Aint Broke Dont Fix It. A Classic Like Halloween Should Be Left Alone!!
|
only the new ending of the halloween film was awful.... the rest was excellent
|
I haven't seen many but
Halloween Friday the 13th (the first 3 or 4 were good as I recall?) Texas Chainsaw Massacre Child's play 1-3 I don't really know of many more |
Some others that are worth seeing:
the Sleepaway Camp films, especially the first. Cheerleader Camp Slumber Party Massacre films April Fools Day Massacre at Central High |
Intruder
New York Ripper The Prowler Silent Night Deadly Night Good to see Maniac, The Burning and Black Christmas on your list those flicks are fuckin' dope. |
i thought the new halloween was good myers was more intense and more violent and it brought it in to the new ear and the body count was amazing . To answer an earlier question i am refering to the 70s Black christmas . Does anyone remember just before dawn and does the burning have that fat bald guy from seinfield in it . Cheers for all your replies

Halloween (1978) (The remake was crap.)
A Nightmare On Elm St. Friday The 13th Hellraiser Texas Chainsaw Massacre Masters Of Horror: Incident On And Off A Mountain Road Black Christmas (Original) |
why was it crap tell me why i thought it was decent . He was for a start more vicious and the the boring ever ending scene where the youths are walking home is cut to like 10 minutes . I agree the ending was shite but the original uncut movie is totally different to the theatrical release . Its like 20 minutes longer maybe you should catch it.

i know it's already been said, but i just want to second "maniac"
it's totally great |
demonique didnt they half finish maniac 2 . I enjoyed maniac tho

I am a die hard, Halloween fan. Zombies movies are filled with no more than simple profanity and nudity. It takes away from the entire "Halloween" experience. Yes, the original (1978) was slower. Yes, the new generation audiences, may find it boring. But for someone to be a true fan to the horror genre, you have to want more than nudity and swear words. Not to mention, you kind of feel sorry for Michael in the remake which takes away a lot of the impact. Rob Zombie bit off more than he could chew when remaking Halloween. You can check out my review here: VampircClown's Review Thread (It's at the bottom) I did think it was an O.K. film, but a far as being an actual remake, it sucked. Though through optional opinions, you can make of the movie what you wish. I prefer to take it as a random slasher movie, rather than a remake of my favorite movie ever. Rob Zombie could do better. |
vampire i think your right i dont think it beats halloween but lets face it is a gem in an underperforming genre i still think the remake beats no 3 , no 4 , no 5 , no 6 , h20 etc and the fact its stil alive and wellis testament to being the best horror franchise around . But i dont know about you but movies of the late 70s early 80s look and feel different i think the filming techniques makes it look sinsiter to begin with and the modern filming and budget i think although it looked good detered from the orginal feel of the movie.
Vampire what are your views on the prowler |

The slasher films of the 70's and 80's were much darker than todays slasher films such as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Etc.. Although the films I just mentioned were not as terrible as everyone seems to make them out to be. Scream was a gory movie. It was just as much up there with the Friday The 13th franchise as anything, with the exception that it came out a few years later, and the killer wasn't immortal. All of the 'teen' slashers didn't start with Scream. They started back with movies such as, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and our current topic, Halloween. No one looks at it that way though. As far as The Prowler, I own this movie, but have not yet watched it. I will try to do so in the next couple of nights so I can state my opinion. |
cool vampire plz do , i spent alot of my life when i was at school watching horror movies and liked them . But i dont know about you but VHS seems to make the movie that little more sinister maybe its just me but dvd is to polished for 70s and 80s titles

And yes, VHS makes any horror movie really, actually more creepy. DVD is too clear. Also, if you want to see what I have and what I've watched, click this: My DVD Collection |
EDIT:Brainfuck, wrong thread.
Sorry, I'm out of it. |
cool vampire i will have a look soon and i will try and make a list when i get back to my country of movies i have seen which are rare but worth a watch.

The Prowler is pretty cool, I like Sleepaway Camp and My Bloody Valentine. Nothing can top Halloween in my book.
Hatchet & Behind the Mask:the Rise of Leslie Vernon are admirable additions the the genre that are well written and really fun:D |

The "Survival Kit" from Anchor Bay is really cool! You can buy the uncut version from "Legacy Entertainment".It's cheap...but it's pan & scan. |
Buy the VHS so you can see it like it was meant to be seen

My favorite 80s slasher flicks were Friday the 13th Part III (1982) throughout Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason takes Manhattan (1989) I also really enjoyed some of those late 1990s - early 2000s slasher films, SCREAM trilogy, I liked. (Uhm, SCREAM 3 sucked though kind of) I really liked Freddy Vs. Jason, but I agree that Jason X was ridiculous. I mean crossing Science fiction with a modern day slasher icon like Jason is just pushing it. The Halloween franchise was a franchise I rarely seen when I was growing up, and the first Halloween film I ever watched was Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) and that movie just freaked me out! I was 12 at the time... |
Death Row Dinner, Blood Diner, They Live. The Grudge.
|
I Sometimes do ... or often talk about franchise horror when I'm dealing with slasher films.
Friday the 13th: Either Part VI: Jason Lives or the 2009 Reboot or Freddy Vs. Jason. A Nightmare On Elm Street: The first one (1984 - Loved Johnny Depp's Death, brootal), and 3: Dream Warriors. (1987) Halloween: Either Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers or Rob Zombie's Halloween and Rob Zombie's Halloween II (1988, 2007 & 2009) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Either Number Two (1986) or the 2003 Reboot. SAW: (Although not a typical slasher film; still Franchise) I'd say SAW I (2004) or SAW VI (2009 - Although it was the lowest grossing movie of the franchise with a little over $62 million in ticket box sales) |
No particular order Top 5 Slashers in my book
1.The Burning 2.Pieces(I can't remember the year,from the 80's) 3.New York Ripper(sleazarama sick and savage treat) 4.Maniac(1980) 5.Madman(I can't recall the year again,80's horror) :) |

I was going to post in this thread, with a smartass remark. But after seeing that this thread has been recovered from the vault of old threads, I really feel no need in posting anything further, with the exception that my list of favorite slasher films is a bit different. I've gained love for other slashers, and changed my mind about others that I liked a few years ago.
This thread pretty much sums up most of the good slashers. |
