Haunted 05-25-2009 12:51 AM

Definitely OCD...

I have this fear about my house being broken into in the middle of the night and me choking on something (usually pills) while no one is around.

twitchii 05-25-2009 07:17 AM

i saw the phobia thread and i just had to add in mine. i have the normal, snakes, bugs etc. they creep me out, but not to level that my true phobia does.

it's Scoleciphobia - fear of worms

don't laugh (although my parents have my entire life :D ) it really sucks. i can't even stand to look at them. if i see one i kinda jump and stuff. during a rainfall it REALLY is horrible and i have to constantly just walk without looking down at the ground

anyway, thought i would add my 2 cents. i actually do well with the rest - crowds, water, heights. it's just the gooey, squirmy things that make me cringe.

Zero 05-25-2009 07:41 AM

the worms crawl in and the worms crawl out - i bet that song terrified you as a kid!

horrorobsessed 05-25-2009 04:57 PM

the closest thing i have to a real phobie is oppossums....the freak me out to no end.

i have a bunch of other fears and stuff that makes me twitch...i'm a spaz like that. i think i may also have a minor case of ocd...it's bad sometimes.

You're not alone. And now I know the name for that phobia. It's weird. I like snakes, I don't mind other creepy-crawlies, but for some reason worms freak me the FUCK out.

dewaholic 05-25-2009 05:49 PM

snakes
comitment

cheebacheeba 05-25-2009 05:50 PM

What about leeches, and grubs?

dewaholic 05-26-2009 11:23 AM

I'm not really fearful of leaches and grubs. Unless they are by snakes.

Haunted 05-26-2009 11:37 AM

Grubs I don't mind. Leeches, I couldn't handle, especially those ones that climb up your nose. Oh, god, those things are awful.

Yea, i hate when that happens..

Haunted 05-26-2009 05:43 PM

Seriously, there are these leeches in Southeast Asia that somehow get up your nose and start sucking a lot of blood. I saw it on Natl Geo. It was horrible.

Oh well. A fish up your penis is worse. (South America)

Noah 05-27-2009 01:16 PM

I hate clowns, stairs and sharks.

Though stairs I'm a bit more tolerant of then the other two.

SO with you there.
Another one that kind of adds to it is when people don't understand the fucking concept of personal space. Seriously, the next person who bumps or touches me just because they're standing too close is gonna get an earfull...they'll probably think I'm crazy, I'm good with that if it means they'll keep their distance.
I mean shit, do they DRIVE like that, gently nudging the car in front of them? No.
Same shit should apply everywhere.

I couldn't agree more. I even wrote something about it one day. http://www.writing.com/main/view_item/item_id/1412958

...and on that note: last week I was in a movie a friend of mine was shooting, and I had to get my ass halfway across the bridge on the right in the pic below:

Fucking. Terrifying.

is it the fear of falling down stairs? like a sort of panic attack when you walk up them? i know people who freak out in elevators cause they're afraid that they'll stop and break down.

Haunted 05-27-2009 05:43 PM

I don't like escalators, but stairs don't bother me.

Yes it is a fear of falling down them. Walking up or down them, more specifically down them though.... But sometimes when I'm walking up, I feel like I might fall backwards if my feet don't have good positioning.

It's pretty irrational, but I suspect it has something to do with a past life.

Likewise for my fear of sharks, since I live in the fucking desert (Hell aka AZ).

You need a shrink. I see a shrink. It's not so bad.

jenna26 05-27-2009 06:26 PM

I think I have mentioned these here before...

The biggies:
Cars, well driving mostly (which no, I don't do) but I really, really don't like being in them at all. If I could avoid them completely, I totally would.
Fire

To a lesser degree:

Spiders, scorpions and dentists. And I have never liked clowns/clown dolls much, though its not really a phobia....I'm just....cautious because I know they can't be trusted.......;) I still blame Poltergeist for that one.

I have done before. Thing is, with a shrink - I just felt like I was another number in line. It didn't feel as personalized as it maybe should've been. I suppose some are better than others though - But paying someone to tell me their opinions on my personal life? Not exactly my idea of a good time.

Haunted 05-28-2009 08:27 PM

Yeah, it does depend on the shrink. My shrink is kick-ass. He tries to help me sort out my problems myself, instead of telling me what my problems are. He also gives me tips as to how to adjust myself. He's really cool.

Elvis_Christ 05-28-2009 08:29 PM

Is it expensive seeing a shrink?

Angelakillsluts 05-28-2009 09:17 PM

I'm afraid of being alone in the dark :(

My boyfriend works late, if I'm alone by myself and the power goes out because of a lightning storm or something I can't stay in the house. I try my best to calm myself down, I'll call friends or something. I usually end up running outside with my shoes barely on, and waiting outside in the rain until my boyfriend comes home from work.

Don't worry, I've had it explained to me: I'm leaving my house where I am alone and safe, to go outside in the rain where there could possibly be something dangerous lurking. I really wish there was some magic pill I could take because I know how ridiculous this fear is and I am so embarrassed by it. I'm not a little girl anymore... I feel so stupid after, but my imagination just goes wild.

You're a horror fan right? C'mon now...ha
Nah I won't poke fun, shit fucks with peoples heads in weird ways.

We're you like ever robbed/mugger or anything of the like? ever come home to find your place broken into? Any kind of traumatic/violent event that occured indoors?
Even receiving bad news while you were alone at home?
You don't have to answer there - just that it would seem to me like those are likely calalyst events...but not necessarily, just what comes to mind when I think about it.
My suggestion would be to accept it as a bit of nutso on your part, and from then on get to doing stuff that'll eliminate it for you.
Calling friends is a good idea, having music or whatever on would work too, maybe videogames?
Since you live in the states, I'd say probably not the news.
I'd say chop yourself up some vegetables, herbs and spices...but that's just a personal comfort thing for me, I guess.
Write yourself a checklist, this is something I reckon might actually work...even if over time write down thoughts you have and make the checklist based on that...if you have to do a routine armed (I mean like, pepperspray/blunt objects) scan/patrol of your vicinity to convince yourself it's safe, then do it as long as you need to - make it so you've got no other option but to think there's nothing that could even feasibly get to you - tick things off and all.
...the activity in itself is something to do, and might take your mind off things and help with your organisational and time management skills as well.

Could always get a dog too?

Worst. Image. Ever.

ferretchucker 05-31-2009 10:02 AM

I have a very irrational...I don't know if it's a fear or simply disgust. Anyway, I hate cockroaches. Their antennae, their scuttling, how fast they go and not being able to see any face on them. I can't be within 5 foot of one. Funny, because I don't mind most insects. I think it is mainly the ones with no visible face like millipeeds.
