well as i giallo fan, i admit i find his early films a real treat. phenomena is a good film, not his best but certainly not his worst (phantom of the opera gets that "honour")

I have yet to see his '98 Phantom remake. But you're right about Phenomena, it's not his worst. It's not even close to being his worst. His best film was Suspiria, hands down. I feel his best giallo is Deep Red.

It depends on what you didn't like about Suspiria. It's possible you'll like his other movies, at least one of them. I always recommend Tenebre, almost every horror fan thoroughly enjoys that one.

Fulici Sucks

I've seen a few of his films I recently bought city of the living dead on DVD and thats the biggest mistake I've ever made god the film made no sence had bad acting bad speceil effects it was utter crap. The best film he's made was Zombie AKA Zombie flesh eaters and that still wasn't that good (Had a good score thoe).

as long as it's a decent version, that's a bargain.

Lucio Fulci is a hack- was a hack- is a hack. My opinions on him are very well versed and well known. And quite controversial, to my surprise. I wasn't aware that to be a horror fan, I had to be a robot and like everything certain people tell me to. That's the way it's been on other boards...

The Beyond and Don't Torture a Duckling weren't terrible films- but pretty much everything else he touched was. The New York Ripper is a dispicable, miserable excuse for a movie. It's gore was used to cover up the fact that the movie is blatantly misogynistic, and disgusting at that. But since I haven't had any luck so far in appealing to the intelligence of Fulci fans, I digress. Zombie is hugely overrated.

I know that there is a real scale of badness, that it's often an abstract concept. And I know the difference between good-bad and bad-bad. And Fulci was just bad-bad-bad...

Dario Argento on the other hand has been the most consistent, innovative, brilliant, and ambitious of the 3. Even his lowest film, by any standard, would be fascinating!

yeah whatever....

What the fuck, not Argento not Fulci, the two greatest italian directors ever!
You better check out these two directors, the best of Italy.
films you'd better check out by Fulci and Argento:
Lucio Fulci
The Beyond
City of the Living Dead
House by the Cemetery
Zombie Flesh Eaters
Don't Torture A Duckling
The Black Cat

Dario Argento
Suspiria
Inferno
Tenebre
Cat O`nine Tails

You'd better check out Michele Soavi, that made films like Stagefright and Dellamorte Dellamore (known as Cemetery Man in the US)

You've probably got the fucked up cut version. Check out Anchor Bay's DVD instead.

MrShape 09-03-2004 05:14 AM

Another really fun Fulci film to check out is "Contraband". It's a full on gore gangster pic. It's a whole lotta fun. Blue Underground has a DVD out.
