I asked Dustin if I've watched Reindeer games, and he said it had Matt Damon in it...V showed me a picture of Matt Damon about a month ago, but I don't remember what he looked like...I don't remember anything about him that would distinguish him from so many other actors...They all just kinda look the same to me...I DO remember what Brad Pitt looks like now (after Watching Se7en a bunch of times)...But it's people like Vincent Price, Anthony Perkins, Stephen King, Bruce Campbell, Robert Englund, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Hanks, Ted Raimi, Tony Todd (after millions of Candyman watches), Michael Clark Duncan (it's his eyes), and Jeffrey Combs that really stand out to me, so I remember those guys

Oh, she's that old. Alzheimer is quite common in that age.

Still, it sure is sad when it happens.

Seriously? Do you have trouble telling people apart when you go out?

If I'm introduced to someone, I won't recognize them if I see them out somewhere later, unless I spend time with them regularly or there is something about them that stands out, and I almost always forget names, too...When I was younger, if I saw one of my teachers outside of the classroom (like at the store or something) I didn't recognize most of them, only a couple that I really liked...I once saw my ex Biology teacher at Bigg's and I called him by the name of Seri's pediatrician, I really thought it was him...He said, "It's me, Mr. Straub"...I always remembered the name 'Mr. Straub' because of Peter Straub, but I had put the wrong face with the name :(...Right after I graduated, I was at Sam's Wholesale Warehouse, and a guy who worked there came up the me and said "Hey, remember me?"...I had no idea who he was...So, he said his name and that he was captain of the football team (so I thought to myself 'WHY would I know who this guy is?'), and he continued to try to explain to me who he was, and how I should know him (through other people I knew at school), I said "I'm really sorry, I just don't remember"...He said, "Oh well, that's ok, it was nice seeing you anyway"...My mother was with me and she said "I wouldn't have forgotten him, he's gorgeous!" lol...I dunno, I guess now that I think about it, it's kinda weird...

Now you have prompted me to check out some psychological issues based on face recognition :p

hammerfan 11-19-2008 01:41 PM

I'm the exact opposite Rayne. If I meet someone, I'll see them a few months later and think "I know that person from somewhere". I NEVER forget a face. Names? Now that's another story.

 OMG!!!

Prosopagnosia

"Until early in the 21st century, prosopagnosia was thought to be quite rare and solely associated with brain injury or neurological illness affecting specific areas of the brain. However, some evidence suggests that there may be a form of congenital prosopagnosia in which people are born with a selective impairment in recognising and perceiving faces. The cases that have been reported suggest that this form of the disorder may be highly variable and some newer research suggests that it may be heritable and much more common than previously thought (about 2% of the population may be affected). It has been suggested that very mild cases of face blindness are much more common, perhaps affecting 10% of the population, although there have not been any studies confirming this. The inability to keep track of the identity of characters in movies is a common complaint.

Associative Prosopagnosia

Associative prosopagnosia is thought to be an impairment to the links between early face perception processes and the semantic information we hold about people in our memories. People with this form of the disorder may be able to say whether photos of people's faces are the same or different and derive the age and gender from a face (suggesting they can make sense of some face information) but may not be able to subsequently identify the person or provide any information about them such as their name, occupation or when they were last encountered. They may be able to recognise and produce such information based on non-face information such as voice, hair, or even particularly distinctive facial features (such as a distinctive moustache) that does not require the structure of the face to be understood. Typically such people do not report that 'faces make no sense' but simply that they do not look distinctive in any way."

If you guys remember my rant about The Descent, and how I had a hard time keeping track of who was dead and who wasn't, because the blondes all looked the same to me...At one point I said to Dustin, "That girl was already killed" when I saw the blonde crouching in a tunnel...He had to rewind and show me that it was a different girl...I absolutely couldn't tell them apart...I've told him many, MANY times that it would be great if all of the characters of a movie could have different hair color or something because it confuses me, and I always have to ask him who's who...I'm gonna go for a bit because this is fascinating to me (so I have to find out more about it), and I am being FLOODED with instances of examples of this 'thing' that I just realized I might have

BTW...My mother is terrible at recognizing faces, too...and she can never remember who celebrities are, either...I just thought it was normal...

This is actually the only other forum I've actually stuck around at besides another forum I post at often.

Not a bad place at all. Also a good break from illiterate morons from the other forum I go to, which isn't a horror forum.
