I love cats and dogs, they are the sweetest animals.I think Koala bears are sweet too!

monalisa 10-14-2008 07:53 PM

Dogs, I love dogs.

I agree that rodents are great fun to watch too. I love to watch them eat with their little hands and nibbly little faces (OK, I know that sounds sappy/ridiculous, but, oh well). And have you ever had one of these little wire holder things that hang from a chain and are supposed to be for birds, but Mr. Squirrel has gotta get some of that? That is hilarious to watch. Quite the little acrobats!

Bears and wolves are a couple of my favorites too.

I've actually heard that they're vicious little fucks. Maybe one of our Aussie friends could give us the scoop on Koalas?

I think Koalas are adorable.

cute or not, I hate pets

I love wild animals, but don't see how they are supposed to be substitutes for our inter-personal shortcomings.

Granted, I've had to put down a couple of animals in my day, so I have no sentimentality at all about dogs or cats or hamsters or fish - in my eyes they live in captivity and would probably be better off dead.

dirty, stinky, stupid monkeys. sometimes cute, but still just a dumb animal.

Dogs mainly..
But I also tolerate cats, and quite like goats, mudskippers, reptiles, and larger spiders.

Otters, I forgot to mention Otters. I think they are adorable. (I've heard puppies and kittens hate them.)

man i couldn't disagree more.

i might have agreed years ago .. but not long ago i caught a mouse in our place. (2 cats and the mice were eating out of their dishes.
I caught the cats staring at the mice - afraid to move (the cats !)

So i put this little bugger in a big old aquarium i had - and the little guy lived almost 5 years.
they live longer in captivity than they do on the wild ..
because they arent anyone's food, it's a no stress lifestyle ..

what do you think small animals do in the wild exactly - that they cant do in captivity ?
go to animal clubs ? eat what they want ? get the books they really enjoy ?

the life of a mouse in the wild is pathetic .. a daily life and death struggle.
is that better for a mouse ? (ask one who's just finished a nice bowl of sunflower seeds and a run on the wheel .... and ask another in the jaws of a fox ..

now a lion, bear .. big animals - they need the space ..

and birds .. they need to fly .. (but i have to admit - i've seen some bigger birds act like dogs - they love the company of humans.).

pets are a love hate thing with me ... i love animals - i like to see them up close - play with them ... but i hate dealing with them dying ...

as far as inner personal shortcomings ? i'm not sure i follow that unless you mean people who have animals to love because they have no one else..

but even then it's mutually beneficial .. cats and dogs think people are cats and dogs - part of the pack.. they enjoy the affection. cats love being held and scratched ...

better off dead ? i dont thinks so.

better off without man on the planet ? maybe ...

bloodrayne 10-15-2008 05:55 AM

Snakes, lizards, turtles...Pretty much all reptiles

And I LOVE bats...They are so damned adorable...I used to have one...The babies are really small :)

crabapple 10-15-2008 06:00 AM

Things with little tiny eyes...pretty much any little critter with propensity to chitter.

Speaking of favorite animals......the older members here know I'm a cat lover. I just found out that we're inheriting another cat. My nephew is getting divorced, losing his house, moving into an apartment, and can't take the cat with him. When asked what he was going to do with his cat, he replied "Take her to the SPCA". Which our reply was "Oh HELL no!! You'll bring her to us!"

So, she's arriving this weekend. Her name is Cherokee, she's about 8 or 9, not really sure. If I remember right, she's a beautiful calico girl. I could be wrong - my memory isn't worth shit these days. I'm really nervous about how Lucy's going to react. I know Logan won't give a shit, but Lucy on the other hand........

Wish us luck!

Good luck to you, Sweetie :)

Often same-gendered animals conflict with each other if they're from different litters, especially when they're older...But, it doesn't always happen, and sometimes even when it does happen, they eventually warm up to each other

Thanks, Rayne! There wasn't any major catastrophes when we brought Lucy home, but I'm just not sure how Lucy's going to react now that she's been there for two years. I'm not worried about Logan at all. She adjusted to Lucy, she'll adjust to Cherokee. I feel bad for Cherokee - not only is she losing her home, she's losing her Daddy, too. I told Paul he has to visit more often once she comes to our house.

Penguins! Any kind, they are all awesome. I don't remember what got me onto penguins, though I do remember wanting to be a marine biologist as a kid.

I also really love cats and are rather fond of pandas, and find bears in general rather interesting.

That's sad. My dogs are like children to me. I love them so much and I believe they are here to be our friends. I don't know what I'd do without their unconditional love and companionship. Humans have disappointed me many times but my pets haven't. That's my opinion. :)

That's how I feel. They really are like my children (a lot of people may find that odd, but I don't really care, more than likely I won't be able to have any children of my own, and even if I could I would probably adopt if and when I choose to bring a child into my life). I love them, and yes, I think they give that back, and they show me in a million different ways that they are happy to be safe, loved and cared for. Even if its by a crazy woman....:p

Me as well...I treat my pets as if they were a part of the family...because to me, they are. :)

monalisa 10-16-2008 06:39 PM

I totally agree jenna, nella, LC and whoever else said similar stuff... My little fluffy guy is the most loving entity I have ever met. He doesn't care what kind of day I've had or what mistakes I've made, he just loves me and is always there for me and is always glad to see me. He is a constant source of joy and companionship and I do my best to be the same for him (and I spoil him and pamper him too). I never was able to have human children and eventually had to have a hystorectomy, so it ain't gonna happen. So to me, he is my kid. I wish dogs (and cats) could live longer, but a friend once said that it depends on how you look at it. They are here for a shorter time than us, but we love them and take care of them as best we can. And if we're lucky enough, we get to have several of these gentle spirits in our lifetime.

The Mothman 10-16-2008 10:44 PM

I'm a cat person, love 'em. im a pretty big animal lover in general, except for fucking horses. I hate those foul, awful creatures.
