I think I agree. I haven't seen it yet, but whenever someone mentions it at school and when I'm out with my friends, Heath ledger dying is always mentioned
and the hype over it is huge! Although, from what I've been told (mainly by you guys), it does sound great. It hope it's better than BB because I wasn't particularly impressed with that either.

same here - the makeup was awsome ...

have you seen the comics or the previous movie ???

the makeup far surpassed my expectations - and i thought his performance was dead on.

as far as what happened to him ..

if they want him back - there is always a way to bring him back. (didnt you guys ever actually read comics ? :)

Psycom5k 07-20-2008 12:24 PM

I'm getting ready to go see it right now, I'm soooo fucking like twitchy cause I wanna see it so bad. I know i'm gonna giggle like a school girl when I see the Watchmen trailer again. anyways i'm off to go see it, peace.

Psycom5k 07-20-2008 06:11 PM

oh my fucking god..... I don't think I've ever had that much fun in a movie theater. That movie was so fucking awesome.... I would have to disagree with whoever said that Harvey dents makeup/effects looked bad, I thought it was sick.

**Spoilers?**

Well, sure, Dent looked like he did in the comic. But The Joker didn't.
Why take everything to such a fark, believable, serious level but leave Twoface looking so cheezy?
And if you're telling me that it didn't look campy- that is, if you're telling me that through all that heavy damage his perfectly round eyeball is in mint condition, then I don't know what.

I mean, hey, it's one thing in a nearly perfect film, but since we're on the subject, I'll gripe.

Yeah I thought about that too, but who cares? The movie was fucking awesome, its just one "campy" thing about it, why even complain?

*Spoiler Alert*

There are no rubber bat nipples. :D

hammerfan 07-21-2008 05:58 AM

I saw it on Friday night with my nephew. Wow! I was blown away by everyone's performance except Maggie Gyllenhaal. I thought she was mediocre at best. All of the guys rocked!

*SPOILER*

My favorite scene was also the Joker dressed as the nurse and leaving the hospital while it's blowing up. When the explosions stop and he gets the "WTF" look on his face.

What reference? What did I miss?? C'mon Return, help the old broad out! :D

I'm curious about The Riddler too...

*SPOILERS*

Is this something other than the "Mr. Reese" association? I've also been told there's a subtle hint toward Catwoman appearing AND there've been rumors that the tattooed prisoner (Tiny Lister) will become Bane. The next movie in this serious could either be phenomenal or a huge let down. Personally I'd like to see Harley Quinn as the next villain. I also noticed that people thought AMH would be The Riddler in Dark Knight but instead he played a news anchor named Mike Engle (Mr. E).

The Catwoman reference was when Morgan Freeman and Christian Bale were discussing the new Batman suit, and the line was, I believe, "Will it protect me against dogs?", and the response was "It'll protect you against cats." I'm probably para-phrasing, but you get the idea.

Oh ok, well, I guess I wouldn't have considered that a hint toward Catowman but good call. :)

***SPOILERS GALORE***

The Riddler thing was tipped off to me through the Mr. Reese/Mystery thing, but if you look at the character, everything fits perfectly.

- He works for Wayne Industries, which is seen in more than one version of Riddler.

- He has a damn good idea who Batman is, and judging by the look he gave Wayne after the Lamborghini crash, he's still a little pissed.

- He's shown to be pretty smart + resourceful.

- Looks the part PERFECTLY.

- After a close call like that, orchestrated by someone like The Joker, you're bound to lose it a little bit.

- And, of course, there's the fact that Gary Oldman already pretty much conformed that Riddler was the next villain. I can dig up a link to the interview if you're so inclined, but I'm sure you've all read it by now.

I know there's more, but thats all I can think of for the moment.

As for Tiny Lister, the big dude on the boat...if he's being set for up anything, it's Killer Croc, not Bane. That shit on his neck looked more like a skin condition that an tattoo. I've never seen a tattoo like that...

I heard somebody mention that the schizo Joker goon that Harvey was interrogating - the one with the Rachel Dawes badge - was supposed to be a set-up for Mad Hatter, but I cant quite figure that one out. Did anybody catch something that I didn't?

Personally, I think they're trying to set up Batgirl / Oracle in some way. In both this movie and Batman Begins, they mention Gordon's daughter constantly, but NEVER show her. Even when his family is kidnapped, she's attached to her mother and you just barely see the back of her head. Nolan's said that he'd never have Robin in his films, but has he ever mentioned Batgirl? Besides, I think that whole kidnapping thing would give her more than enough reason to want to fight crime...I'm against the idea myself, but I can see it happening.

Anyway, I'm still pushing for Black Mask as the next villain...so fucking perfect for Nolan's world. Who would play him though? Joaquin Phoenix? Guy Pearce? Maybe Rufus Sewell?

Despare 07-21-2008 10:14 PM

Lister was listed as "Tattooed Prisoner" in the credits and that kind of scarring tat is pretty common in prisons. As for Black Mask, I think that would be pretty cool but I'd rather see somebody come from Dark Knight and be built into the character they're to play. I'm actually digging this two villian scheme Nolan's films have had though.

_____V_____ 07-21-2008 10:23 PM

Above all, Mr. Reese = Mis + ter + Reese = Mysteries...enough subtle hint.

I am thinking Talia might make an appearance in the next one, and/or Harley Quinn.

From what I have heard about Chris Nolan, he ACTUALLY checks out comic fans' message-boards and their discussions after they have seen his adaptations and plans a script for his next movie accordingly. I must say the man does some pretty good and solid homework.

Damn...now I'm REALLY going to have to pimp Black Mask.

$161.3 million, in 3 days.

And counting.

That would make the character draw parallels with The Joker. Knowing Nolan, he will go in an entirely different route for the next one.

The hints for Two Face are amply evident. I am thinking he might prefer Hugo Strange, out of the rest...even over Black Mask.

I can't read anything about this movie because I won't be able to see it until this weekend.

But from what I have heard (not much, since I am desperately trying to avoid spoilers obviously), I won't be disappointed. :)

I dunno how they'd pull it off in the style they've sone the last two films, but I'd be interested in seeing a big screen version of Clayface. I think they'd be able to do Ventriloquist quite. Imagine how creepy they could make Scarface the Dummy.

Is it too intense for a 7 year old boy? I want to go, but my kid will flip if I don't bring him...consensus here?

Depends on if he can take a dark, gritty and black-humor loaded version of Batman. Its basically more of a crime-thriller, than a superhero movie.

It's intense alright...very intense in the middle and towards the climax.

Like this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clayface#Basil_Karlo

If they do Ventriloquist and Scarface they shouldn't be a major villain. Just someone inside Arkham.

My kids adored it and they are 5 & 11. It all depends on the child. Some kids are easily upset, others have been taught to seperate fantasy from reality.

It's sad how the older people get, the less they remember how much fun it was to get scared as a kid. The television "personalities" bitching about how "bad" this film is for kids are all in thier 50s or older. How many of us are here because we saw a scary movie when we were young and it sort of blew our minds? Kids are resiliant - even more so than adults, it's in their wiring.

I was going to see Rated R films when I was 8 and I'm a realtively normal husband and father. No mental/emotional scars here.

ferretchucker 07-22-2008 09:12 AM

But so far, like many of the superhero movies lately, they're going for realism, and the new batman series more than most, so a giant clay monster I don't see how they'd do it. But I do hope they do eventually.

I remember full well how thrilling it was to watch a horror movie when I was a child. The movies that are made now are way more intense than the movies when I was in grade school - heck, even high school for that matter.
