I blame my parents.

No, wait, I blame the public school system.

No, wait - ... Yah, I have some catching up to do.

First horror movie you ever watched

I would like to know what was the first horror movie you guys ever watched?

Mine was Dawn of the dead (1978) I remember getting my video player then me and my dad went to a local video shop and we rented Dawn of the dead intervision tape I loved that movie and watched it in the night with my parents and then again in the morning before it had to go back to the shop.Dawn was my favourite horror movie back then and still remains my favourite now.

ManchestrMorgue 09-18-2008 03:00 AM

First horror movie I ever saw was Octaman (1971).

Not sure how old I was - but I know I was really young. From then on, I loved horror films. I did see it a few years later, and even at a young age realised it was a crap film, but the damage was done.

Elvis_Christ 09-18-2008 03:14 AM

Fright Night and Friday The 13th popped my horror cherry.

Fright night part 1 was a great movie.

ManchestrMorgue 09-18-2008 03:35 AM

Yeah it has a great atmosphere. Real 80's charm and character.

Elvis_Christ 09-18-2008 03:39 AM

Tom Holland is a great director. Psycho II is a really underated horror flick.
I'd like to see him put out something new. Last one I caught was Thinner but that was pretty average.

Abominus 09-18-2008 05:16 AM

Stuart Gordon's Dolls. Not sure how it happened, I was 7 and it started me on this downword spiral. It's still one of my favorites.

The Mothman 09-18-2008 05:40 AM

I dont think I can answer that. The earliest i can remember getting terrified by a movie was Robocop when the guy rolled through the toxic waste and melted. I had nightmares about that for months prior.

one of the earliest horror movies I remember seeing was Lord of Illusions though.

Angra 09-18-2008 05:45 AM

I don't think i remember... Captain Kronos, maybe.

neverending 09-18-2008 06:30 AM

War of the Collosal Beast

urgeok2 09-18-2008 07:13 AM

if anyone is good at the search facility - they can reference the last time someone asked this - a few months ago ... my answer is in there somewhere

You mean that button that says SEARCH, and when you press it, all the other members get an email announcing another nOOb dipshit tried to use it. Yea, I gave it a whirl.

Can't remember the 1st one, but can remember the 1st one that scared the crap out of me, Honda's The H Man. Wish I could see it again. The Green Slime did too, but I saw it years later and it sucked(but the theme song still rocks  ).

fortunato 09-18-2008 02:27 PM

mine was i was a teenage werewolf. i was maybe four or five, but my uncle screened it for me. apparently, i loved it and was always asking him if i could watch it again.

when i was a kid my uncle and i used to watch the monster movie matinee that was on every saturday afternoon. Saw a lot of old B&W movies that scared the crap out of me then - would find them laughable now.

King Kong VS Godzilla was probably the 1st one in a theatre - more sci-fi i guess.

The Norliss Tapes (TV movie) was an early memory ..

Tales From the Crypt was an early one - in the theatre - and that one scared me so bad i went to the lobby and waited for it to finish.

funny to imagine it now :)

pre cert sniffer 09-22-2008 11:28 PM

i used to watch hammer horror movies as a kid on TV so if i remember it was the hand or somthing like that...

but the first nasties were my bloody valentine, cannibal ferox a mate showed me them , first horror i rented was evil dead on palace label..loved it

Cradle of Death 09-23-2008 06:23 AM

I watched a lot of horror movies when I was 5-6 years old. I have two older brothers so they were always available.

I'm not certain which was my first, but my earliest memory is the 2 girls on tricycles in the Shining, so it may have been The Shining.

Others that scared me for years were Jaws, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Return of the Living Dead, Prince of Darkness & the Exorcist.

Devil-Hunter 09-23-2008 07:11 AM

I watched jaws at a young age.

scaryladi232 09-23-2008 12:31 PM

The first 2 movies i ever watched as a kid were Friday the 13th's and Halloween the first one.

La Chat Noire 09-23-2008 03:03 PM

I saw Scream when I was 10 or 11. I had to sneak watching it after my parents were asleep because they were movie Nazis. I think most of my enjoyment from horror stems from the fact it used to be forbidden.

jugchord 09-24-2008 12:22 PM

The original Texas Chainsaw and Amityville Horror, I watched them the same day

DeluzioNFX 09-24-2008 09:36 PM

Halloween was my first, not sure if it was the first one but it was definately the first or second :)

pumpkin_queen 10-02-2008 08:44 AM

Oh wow!! I remember watching the gate, that same scene freaked me out too! I totally forgot about that movie!! I'm with you- I gotta watch it again, ha ha!!

The first I remember is "Let's Scare Jessica to Death." I only remember a few scenes. My parents wouldn't let us watch scary movies. THEY don't even watch them now. Haha!

That was a great movie.

ManchestrMorgue 10-02-2008 11:36 PM

Yeah, a great way to start. No wonder you went on to like horror.

My first horror movie on the other hand was Octaman. In spite of this, I still like horror :D

Kel-J-Firefly 10-07-2008 07:08 PM

I saw American Werewolf in London when I was 3... I've been hooked on horrors and black comedies ever since :D

monster123 10-10-2008 01:37 PM

First movie for me was swamp thing. Very good film! haha

sfear 10-10-2008 01:57 PM

One of the earliest I remember is Roger Corman's Tales of Terror. I was eight and the sight of Vincent Price melting (or whatever it was) all over Basil Rathbone kept me up that night. I got over it.

orangestar 10-11-2008 01:56 PM

It was either Scream or Pet Sematary. I wish I could remember which was first...

n3wt 10-16-2008 05:06 AM

The original Psycho not that really bad re-make!

Eat Horror 10-16-2008 06:59 AM

The Evil Dead and I still love it

AARN 10-16-2008 04:58 PM

I have an older brother so when I was like 6 or 7 I saw Nightmare on Elm Street when he was watching it. I'm not sure exactly which one it was, but I think it was the first one. That movie scared the shit out of me back then, so did Candyman....good times.

missmacabre 01-27-2010 08:57 PM

Closest thing I can find to "What got you into horror?"
