Swans - God Damn the sun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp05E...eature=related |
I've heard of the Swans before, though I can't remember the context; mayhaps in my time as Music Director in my college radio station.
At any rate: His voice is so incredibly haunting, reminiscent of Nick Cave or Leonard Cohen (with a twinge of Stephen Merrit). The song is melancholic. I like it. I'm going to have to add the Swans on my list to explore. Good pick, Step. The immediate connotation being Leonard Cohen, I thought of His version of Hallelujah and Everybody Knows I can't pick just one right now. |
Everybody Knows... That was interesting hahaha.
Knights of Cydonia- Muse http://youtube.com/watch?v=jV1bRfLHA3A *For the record. I think the video KILLS the song. Preferably just listen to it. |
Cool Leonard Cohen is great.... Songs of Love & Hate is one of my all time favorite albums. Everybody Knows was the first song I ever heard by him I was hooked after that :)

Well he did right Halleljuah, I can't believe I flicked onto BonJovi covering it a few night sago on tv, it was fucking horrible as most cover versions are, but my faveorite is John Cales version... as for everybody knows, out of the 50 or so songs on my mp3 player for the last week and a half this is one of them, so I've been listening to it a lot lately. He is playing here in a month or so, I'm thinking of going but it depends on if I'm working or not as tickets are 50 quid... ... And now for something completely different... Talking Heads' Road to Nowhere This would definitely fit somewhere on the ironic soundtrack of the movie they eventually make of my life. |
That Talking Heads song is killer! Been awhile since I heard that one...

Makes me think of this band, thier first e.p was called sounds of satanic youth, but they had so much feed back i think they were referring to sonic youth... Magic Dirt - She Riff, also a cool picknic at hanging rock video and Adalita is uuuurrrr... delicious... http://youtube.com/watch?v=OSmemkqPoAY&feature=related |
Never been a big fan of those guys.... hearing them again hasn't changed that :D

His version of Heartbreak Hotel is pretty spectacular. I feel as though it belongs in some kind of absurd film noir - Not Lynch, but definitely Lynch-like. Quote:

I want to show this vid,
It's at the Oxford Tavern Petersham, it was my local for around 8 months, but at that time it was a titty bar and where the stage is was pool tables and a jukebox, it was a venue back in the seventies and 80's but obviously is again since I left town... It's nunchuka superfly born out of the hard on's... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWyZy...eature=related |
That's local all right... I think I'd rather be there than watch them on YouTube. Knock back a couple of pints, knock up a couple of babes - you know how it goes.
The quality loses some charm though Youtube. And now for a nice little one-hit-wonder that makes me want to have violent sex. Redundant? Maybe. But when this song started getting play, it really made me happy. She Wants Revenge - Tear You Apart http://youtube.com/watch?v=5BIm8jcfWog |

I'm sure most people here have heard this oldie but if you've never heard Iggy Pop's "Search and Destroy" give it a listen. It was a really nice day today and I was driving around with this one blaring... http://youtube.com/watch?v=TKYALsp-sIg |

Doesn't really blow my skirt up. Reminds me a little bit of Radiohead with the long introduction, but I think it regresses into a harder Sunny Day Real Estate (with less lyric strength). Good God Trent Reznor can do no wrong.
I really wish that I had something more to say about this song - I honestly love NIN and I think that this more stripped-down version is raw, successfully creepy evocative. ... One of my favorite bands (Arcade Fire) pairing up with David Bowie: http://youtube.com/watch?v=1-wEBmLht5g |
