I'm going to say the knife. If it's something I'd use, I'd say machete. But if it's for a slasher, I'd say the knife. If you saw Michael far-off on Halloween you'd think it was just some guy celebrating the holiday, but if you saw Jason with a huge hulking machete you would think "Shit, I should stay away from him." I'd say a knife is scarier, but that's just me.
