Round 1: Match 6
Nada vs. Frank Movie: They Live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsZpdUUdd3I A fight scene good enough to redeem an otherwise mediocre movie. Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David fight it out for real, save face and groin shots. That kind of thing would NEVER fly these days, which is understandable, but all the same it made for a great fight scene. It's made all the more awesome by the fact that it's the direct inspiration (ie: they copied it almost move for move) of the Cripple Fight from South Park. VS Thornton vs. Danaher Movie: The Quiet Man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh5nH6UTgj8 John Wayne's usual movie silliness transfered to a surprisingly entertaining extended fist fight. The running joke of the betting is amusing, as is Wayne getting constantly doused with water. Everybody yelling "Thornton and Danaher are fighting!" prompting other bystanders to run up to watch is reminiscant of Cartman running around yelling "cripple fight!" in the abovementioned scene from South Park. The fight its self is at least way above the fights in the various Elvis movies, and probably John Wayne's best fight scene. |
Quiet Man . My favorite John Wayne movie.
|
The Quiet Man for me as well.....not my favorite John Wayne movie, but pretty close.
|
The Quiet Man without a second thought.
|
3-0 The Quiet Man
|
They Live rules!!! Nada vs. Frank.

They Live.................

When you mentioned this tourny ,the first thing to come to my mind was the fight scene in They Live......second being The Bourne Supremacy....so They Live it is.

Round 1: Match 7
Jason Bourne vs. Would-be Assassin Movie: The Bourne Identity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIOI_CQJ9MM The least shakey of the Bourne fights I can recall, and the one that's more of a straight fight scene than an expansive action sequence. The Bourne movies always had good crisp fight choreography, and actually made Matt Damon believable as a badass. Witness him fight a knife-wielding attempted killer using a pulled-apart ink pen. VS Wesley The Man In Black vs. Inigo Montoya Movie: The Princess Bride http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=1 One of my favorites in this tournament, and IMO the best sword fight still in it. It starts out with ever-entertaining dialogue and goes into a classic sword fight. Possibly the complete antithesis of the Rob Roy sword fight, where Inigo and Wesley do a big, complicated sword duel with flips and catching swords in mid-air and switching hands, and shot so you can tell it's Patinkin and Elwes for most of it. I <3 this fight. |
I'm going to have to ahead and say Bourne....
|
The Princess Bride!
One of my all-time top 10 favorites...and the sword fight...and Inigo Montoya!!:D "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father...prepare to die!" Gooooo Montoya! |
1-1 Princess Bride

Round 1: Match 8
Jason and the Argonauts vs. some skeletons Movie: Jason and the Argonauts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwBc2K2dw-8 Classic Ray Harryhausen work, possibly the best piece of stop motion animation ever. Before the time where this would be done with computers, Jason and the Argonauts fight stop motion skeletons that move, fight, grab weapons, die, jump over things, almost seem sentient. While it might not look as fancy as it would if it were done today, it still holds up as being damn impressive. VS William Munny vs. Little Bill and co. Movie: Unforgiven http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_NrMBdNp88 The whole movie seems to build to this, while managing to catch Munny at least by surprise. It's excellently shot and has a lot more suspense than gun fights that are just people shooting from behind things and ducking bullets like a lot of other westerns might have done (*cough*ALL JOHN WAYNE MOVIES*cough*). Capped by one of my favorite Eastwood lines. |
Argonauts vs. Skeletons.
|
William Munny vs. Little Bill.
|
"Any man i see out there im gonna kill em. any sonuvabitch that takes a shot at me, not only am i gonna kill them, im gonna kill his wife. All his friends. burn his damn house down!"
eastwood badassness. Unforgiven for sure. |
2 for the Munny, 1 for the Argonauts
|
Munny vs Bill
|
William Munny in Unforgiven
|
4-1 Munny, one more vote could end the match
|
Unforgiven's scene is great, but the skeleton fight is just pure movie magic.
Harryhausen by far. |
