Australian actress Victoria Hill (December Boys) has reportedly auditioned for the role of Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.' live-action Justice League of America movie to be directed by George Miller.

According to Moviehole.net, Hill has read for the part. Since JLA will film Down Under, it makes sense that casting directors would be looking at Aussie actors for key roles. Hill's credits include Geoffrey Wright's MacBeth, BoyTown, and a stint on Xena: Warrior Princess as "Waltraute".

In other JLA news, ObsessedWithFilm.com reports that Owen Paterson (Speed Racer, V For Vendetta and the Matrix trilogy) has been hired as the film's production designer.

Meanwhile, sources for JusticeLeague-on-Film.com claim that they are "'90%' positive that JL will be a digitally animated project, using Motion Capture technology [as has been rumored]. Several actors have been tested for roles, like 'Wonder Woman,' and while a physical type for each role is being sought, the emphasis has been on vocal performance, rather than on a perfect physical match."

According to a casting notice for JLA's 8-9 lead roles obtained by DarkHorizons.com, the filmmakers "are looking for Male actors 18-35 years old; Caucasian and Black. The primary focus should be to find Caucasian actors. There is 1 role for the Black Actor. We are looking for Female actors 20-32 years old; any ethnicity."

John Stewart's Green Lantern, anybody?

This piece of news is gonna make everyone drool and salivate...:D

September 24, 2007 - Fanboys, prepare to wet yourselves: Jessica Biel is reportedly in talks to play Wonder Woman in director George Miller's live-action Justice League of America movie!

According to Variety, "Potential deal marks the first piece of casting to emerge from the DC Comics-based ensemble project, which is expected to feature Superman, Batman, the Flash and Aquaman in addition to Wonder Woman."

The trade contacted Warner Bros. who "declined comment, saying that it prefers to announce an entire cast rather than piecemeal deals."

Biel is no stranger to comic book films, having appeared in Blade: Trinity.

Ironically, her Blade co-star Ryan Reynolds has been coy about playing The Flash in JLA.

September 25, 2007

Hot on the heels of the news that Jessica Biel is in talks to play Wonder Woman comes a SPOILERISH report about the plot to the live-action Justice League of America movie.

Movieblog.UGO.com reports - (WARNING! ***POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD***)

-- The characters of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash and Martian Manhunter comprise the League. One name that I did not hear mentioned was that of Aquaman. Where’d the fish guy go? Good question.

-- Story elements from the screenplay have been adapted directly from DC’s JLA comic book series.

-- The man wearing the Green Lantern ring in the JLA film is John Stewart and not Hal Jordan (Earth’s first Green Lantern) or Kyle Rayner (who followed after Stewart’s run in the comic book continuity.) It should be noted that in the Justice League cartoon series John Stewart is the same character serving as Earth’s Green Lantern.

-- The Flash is the youngest member of the JLA. He has a crush on Wonder Woman.

-- Wonder Woman is portrayed as the member that acts as defacto humanitarian and face for the League. Our source told us that the best way to describe how she is written in the script is to “think of Angelina Jolie and her relations with foreign countries.”

-- Unbeknownst to the League Batman has a piece of technology that he developed called the “Redeye”, a cool piece of hardware that he can use to spy unbeknownst on the other League members. Want to know what the secret identity of Superman is? Not a problem. Want to find out what can cripple or kill each League member, their Achilles heel? It’s a snap with the Redeye. Batman files away the knowledge in case the day might ever come when he will need to use it to take down a member of the JLA that goes rogue or becomes a villain.

-- The Redeye is a fulcrum to the events that transpire in the movie. A villain—and I’m not at liberty to say which specific one or ones—will gain control of the Redeye. Instead of serving as a means of protecting the planet’s populace from the threat of a superhuman out of control, this creation of Batman’s will come back to haunt him, threaten the lives of the League and the safety of everyone on the entire planet.

-- During the course of the movie the day that Batman feared would come happens: a member of the League will, and we directly quote our source here, “go bad.”

It should also be said at this point that there is at least one major twist in the story that I’m not going to blow because I deem it an Empire spoiler.

For those out there that don’t get my reference, imagine it’s 1979, the internet exists and you’re reading rumors about the new Star Wars sequel called The Empire Strikes Back. There’s some new guy called Lando, there’s a big battle on a snow planet, Luke meets up with another Jedi and Darth Vader says something to Luke near the end of the picture. Sure, those are all spoilers but if I came out and said what Vader told Luke? That’s an “Empire”.

What’s in the box that Morgan Freeman holds in the final ten minutes of Seven is an Empire.

Kevin Spacey’s change of footwork at the end of The Usual Suspects is another Empire.

Got it? Good.

Kane_Hodder 09-27-2007 06:06 AM

The story sounds similar to the Brother Eye storyline in Infinite Crisis.
It would all come down to the casting in the end, that is if they are not making separate stories for Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter.
I still don't see how this will work, without having some sort of "easing into" the other JLA characters besides Superman and Batman.

Seems like Warner Bros. and director George Miller are back to square one when it comes to casting their upcoming live-action Justice League of America movie. Just days after the news broke that she was in talks for the film comes word that Jessica Biel won't be playing Wonder Woman after all.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Biel has passed on the role of the Amazonian superhero. The hunt continues for the right actress to play the part.

JLA is looking to go before cameras in early 2008.

In other casting buzz, IESB.net claims that "Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. aka T.I. (American Gangster, A.T.L.) has recently read for the role of Green Lantern/John Stewart."

T.I. plays the nephew of Denzel Washington's drug lord character Frank Lucas in the forthcoming Ridley Scott-directed American Gangster.

_____V_____ 09-29-2007 07:01 PM

While Warner studios sweats over a possible WGA walkout, casting buzz continues to dominate online film news sites. Movieblog.UGO.com reports that Transformers star Tyrese Gibson is "in the running to play the part of Green Lantern John Stewart" in JLA, but adds that he is merely one of several contenders for the role.

Meanwhile, a source for JusticeLeague-on-Film.com claims that Warners and director George Miller "are having a hard time casting Batman. ... Actors that are considered a 'name' don't want to step on their [Chris Nolan, Christian Bale] toes. That's a big problem for Miller and Warners because you have a character [Batman] with its own franchise and it's successful -- and everyone loves what Bale is doing as Batman. I mean, Bale IS Batman. Do you think someone like a Jake Gyllenhaal wants to try to compete with Bale?"

PhilnEdee 10-06-2007 03:35 PM

"Bale IS Batman"...

To me Bale is Patrick Bateman;)

JLA plot confirmed

October 8, 2007

After months of rumors online, the gist of the plot of the forthcoming live-action Justice League of America movie has been revealed, including confirmation of which characters will be in the George Miller-directed film.

According to Entertainment Weekly, which says it "has obtained an early version of the script," all "seven original members of the Justice League — Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter — are featured in an origins story about the superhero conglomerate. The plot revolves around villainous businessman Maxwell Lord and involves cyborgs called OMACs (One-Man Army Corps), who can take over humans and turn them into killing machines. There are epic battle scenes between Superman and Batman, as well as Superman and Wonder Woman, and League could spawn a slew of additional franchises if it's successful."

Kieran and Michele Mulroney penned the screenplay.

JLA will reportedly begin filming this February in Australia for a summer 2009 release.

EW, which recently reported that Jessica Biel was no longer in the running to play Wonder Woman, now claims "Biel is in early talks to play Wonder Woman in League, but as with (Batman star Bale and Superman star Brandon Routh), the studio might be wary of a crossover; one source says that her contract is unlikely to guarantee that she'd be the star of any future Wonder Woman feature." Biel's reps at CAA advised that she is no longer in talks for JLA.

There may be another -- and nastier -- reason why a Wonder Woman spin-off film might be questionable now. According to DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com, Warner Bros. president of production Jeff Robinov recently decreed, "We are no longer doing movies with women in the lead." This is reportedly in response to the lackluster performance of two recent female-driven Warners releases, The Invasion and The Brave One.

As Comics2Film.com points out, "such a mandate would spell doom for the long-in-development Wonder Woman movie. It's inconceivable that a studio would dismiss the opportunity to make use of one of the few remaining iconic superhero characters yet to be adapted for modern movie-goes, but if Robinov's decree is real, then (Warners) may do just that."

Casting News! - Adam Brody (“In the Land of Women”, TV’s “The OC”) and Common (“Smokin’ Aces”) are up for roles in George Miller’s “Justice League.” The Hollywood Reporter confirmed both actors are indeed in the mix to play The Flash and the Green Lantern, respectively, in the superhero flick.

Also reportedly in the mix are Aussie actress Theresa Palmer (“The Grudge 2”); Joseph Cross (“Running with Scissors”); D.J. Cotrona ("Windfall"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (‘’Grindhouse’’), Michael Angarano (‘’Sky High’’), and Max Thieriot (Jumper).

The cast of “Friday Night Lights” are also keen to don tights too, it seems, with Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki and Scott Porter all contenders as well.

Miller is seeing about four or five actors for the parts of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Martian Manhunter, with a few overlaps. A few nonhero parts might be testing as well. No costumes are involved in the tests, which are being taped as actors read script pages.

Miller is apparently keen to cast young actors who can grow into their roles over several – yes, several – movies.

The director is expected to hand his wish-list to the WB mid-week.

October 16, 2007 - Warner Bros. president of production Jeff Robinov recently tried, via an article in Variety, to put the kibosh on reports that he had decided against green-lighting any more films featuring female leads, a decision which would obviously affect the fate of the studio's long-gestating Wonder Woman movie. Now the same industry columnist who first reported Robinov's alleged decree is back with more, including rumors about the fate of Wonder Woman.

Robinov has "nixed Wonder Woman as a stand-alone film, downgrading her to just one of four superhero characters in the proposed Justice League pic."

Finke adds, "Robinov will only make Wonder Woman as a spin-off of Justice League, about four superheroes including Wonder Woman. But his proviso is that JL (no doubt its proper name Justice League Of America would be too jingoistic for the foreign market) would have to do really, really boffo to justify having a female star-driven pic."

The news broke yesterday that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Live Free or Die Hard, Grindhouse), Teresa Palmer (Wolf Creek), and Friday Night Lights co-stars Minka Kelly and Adrianne Palicki had all auditioned for Justice League, apparently for the role of Wonder Woman.

Both Warner Bros. and reps for Wonder Woman producer Joel Silver failed to respond to inquiries for comment, confirmation or denial on Finke's report at time of publish.

Did I read that right? 4 superheroes??? That means Batman, Superman, WonderWoman and either Flash or Martian Manhunter?

This sounds sucky already.

Old news now...

British actor Rupert Evans has reportedly been cast as Superman in Warner Bros.' live-action Justice League of America movie. Evans, 30, is best known for his role as "John Myers" in Hellboy.

According to a scooper for DarkHorizons.com, "About three weeks ago some casting sessions took place in London's SoHo area for a movie called Justice League. ... Anyway after going through a whole bunch of British actors, I heard today that one of them has been cast as Superman. Anyway, the guy everyone is talking about is called Rupert Evans."

According to the IMDB, Evans stands at only 5'10", which would make him a rather short Man of Steel. Ain't It Cool News reports that they've heard Evans was "beefing up" for a role in JLA and adds that "Evans stepped up to give a very good reading as Superman when auditioning for Bryan Singer's Superman Returns."

In other JLA news, Movieblog.UGO.com reports that the Flash in the movie will be Barry Allen rather than Wally West. They also reveal that Allen's wife Iris will be in the film, as well as Batman's faithful butler Alfred Pennyworth. UGO claims that 14 pages of "leaked" script pages that recently surfaced online are bogus and offer their own information on what happens in the first act. The plot to JLA will reportedly borrow from the Brother Eye satellite storyline employed in Greg Rucka's six-issue limited series The OMAC Project.

According to UGO, "Will you get to see plenty of superhero fights? Sure including battles between OMAC robots and League members. The ending is pretty eventful and what goes down has major ramifications on the lives of at least two Leaguers. I'm pretty sure that some of the fanbase of one particular JLA superhero is going to be angry over what happens at the conclusion of the story regarding a heavy decision that the superhero(ine) has to make that comes as a suggestion from one of the film's villains. Yes, I did say villains, plural."

October 29. 2007

Just days after Teresa Palmer was reportedly cast to play Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League of America movie comes word that another Aussie actress is under consideration for the role.

We can now add Perth-born model-actress Megan Gale to the list of Wonder-ful candidates, which includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Minka Kelly and Adrianne Palicki.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Gale, 31, is "short-listed" for the role of Wonder Woman in JLA. "Certainly Gale has been spotted paying visits to Fox Studios in recent weeks, which is where the George Miller-directed film will be shot," the paper claims, adding, "An announcement on the Wonder Woman role is expected next Tuesday."

Megan Gale's only has two film credits listed at IMDB.com. Besides the Italian comedy Stregati dalla luna, Gale's only other credit is a small role as "Dr. Orbit's Secretary" in 2005's Stealth, which co-starred Jessica Biel.

_____V_____ 10-30-2007 07:21 AM

Of course, interspersed rumors of a Flash spinoff and a Green Lantern spinoff from the JLA movie have surfaced. If they go beyond the rumors stage, I will confirm it in this thread.

The Flash spinoff is almost set to roll, according to IESB.net. But who knows? I dont...yet.

AUSTIN316426808 10-30-2007 10:29 AM

Gonna be kinda goofy if Bale, Routh and Caine aren't in it. But whatever, I'll go see it anyway.

Latest updates...

November 17, 2007

The cast of Warner Bros.' live-action Justice League of America movie is expected to be unveiled next week, but new reports claim to reveal several actors who have been cast in the George Miller-directed project.

According to both Ain't It Cool News and IESB.net, previously reported contenders Adam Brody (The O.C.), Common (American Gangster), Teresa Palmer (Wolf Creek) and Scott Porter (TV's Friday Night Lights) have won roles in the film.

Brody is said to be playing Wally West, a.k.a. The Flash, opposite Common as John Stewart, the Green Lantern.

IESB says that, contrary to earlier reports, Palmer is not going to play Wonder Woman but rather one of the film's villains, Talia Al Ghul. Talia is the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul, portrayed by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins.

AICN claims Porter might be playing Superman, but IESB counters by saying, "our sources are telling us that he was up for the role of The Flash against Adam Brody and obviously Brody won out, we've heard nothing about him being cast as Superman."

Barry Allen, the original Flash, is reportedly in the movie. Might Porter have been cast as him instead of Wally West? Or perhaps he's playing Batman? We'll know soon enough.

AICN's source also adds that "Michael Gough might be appearing as Alfred." Gough played Batman's faithful butler in the Tim Burton-Joel Schumacher Bat-films.

November 20, 2007

Rumor has it that Warner Bros. might finally and officially announce the cast of its live-action Justice League of America movie as early as tomorrow.

Moviehole.net claims "the cast is a lock as of today." (One reported cast member is unknown actor Armie Hammer, who is said to be playing Batman. According to IMDB.com, Armie Hammer, who is no relation to Navie Wrench, is actually the great-grandson of industrialist Armand Hammer. Holy baking soda, Batman! The 6'5", 21 year-old Hammer's possible casting was first reported by Batman-on-Film.com.)

Moviehole also disputes a recent story in The Hollywood Reporter that said production might be delayed due to the ongoing Writers Guild strike. According to Moviehole, "the film is still definitely on track."

CinemaBlend.com, however, counters that, citing a source who claims the JLA filmmakers "don't have a finished script and can't work on it until the strike is over, and there's no studio space at Fox Sydney... so maybe one of these productions will have to move to Docklands studios Melbourne (but The Pacific is taking up all the stages there) or Warner Bros Studios on the Gold Coast."

Confirmed Casting for Batman, Wonder Woman and Iris Allen

Justice League casting confirmations from the studio, although vehemently rumored to be announced soon, have been slow coming. IESB has been able to confirm the casting of Adam Brody, Teresa Palmer and Common through various sources and we’ve got one more to add to the list today.

Armie Hammer.

I know what you’re thinking, “WHO?”

Armie Hammer, short for Armand Hammer not to be confused with Arm & Hammer the popular “do-everything” household agent. But yes, Armie Hammer has joined the cast as none other than the Dark Knight himself, Batman.

Clocking in at 6 foot 5 inches tall, Hammer certainly has the stature for the role, plus as an added bonus he’s an amateur magician…I kid you not.

Plus what else do the roles of “Abercrombie Boy” and “Male Prefect” prepare you for besides one of the greatest superheroes of all time? He may look the part and have the right statue, but the guy is only 21 years old! What’s with that?

If you’re not familiar with Hammer, you’re not alone – he’s only appeared in a few things, and even then you’d have to pause his scenes to spot him. He had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-him part in the Alison Lohman starring remake of “Flicka” and apparently played a role in an episode of “Veronica Mars”. All I can say is… he must have a darn good agent, and an aggressive one of that. How else would he have gotten the part?

Yes, Wonder Woman has been cast, Megan Gale is going to play Princess Diana (and NOT Mary Elizabeth Winstead), but is she the right choice for a role model to young girls everywhere?

It’s pretty much common knowledge that the supermodel snagged the invisible jet. Interestingly enough, Gale is 31, a whole ten years older than the guy they’ve just cast as Batman… seem a little off to you, too? Besides modelling, Gale is most famous for her long running feud with fellow model, Jennifer Hawkins, over in Australia.

And the last part? Zoe Kazan’s been rumoured for a couple of weeks now as Iris Allen, other half of Barry Allen/The Flash. A chat to Zoe yesterday confirmed the news. But she isn’t able to say anything more than that at this stage. If you’ve seen the recent “Fracture” with Tony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling, she’s the lass who played Mona.

So there you got your superheroes, folks...

Adam Brody - The Flash

Common - Green Lantern

Armie Hammer - Batman

Megan Gale - Wonder Woman

Teresa Palmer - Talia Al Ghul

Zoe Kazan - Iris Allen

And that leaves Superman's casting. Well, your guess is as good as mine so...feel free to go right ahead.

Yellow Jacket 12-01-2007 03:26 PM

I don't think a live-action JLA movie would work. As an animated film, hell yeah. I'm all over it. But, putting it as live-action might make it lackluster, since a lot of the actors are going to be looking for screen time. And, too many big superhero names in one movie might draw out an audience, but fans are going to get pissed when Superman and Batman get more screen time than The Green Lantern. At least I'll be pissed. I mean, Superman and Batman have their own movies, yet Green Lantern has none. Don't hog the screen, and let GL bask in some of the glory. I'm critizing the film, yet I haven't seen it. :p Oh, and not casting Brandon Routh as the big S and Christian Bale as the big B is, in my opinion, a good choice since I don't think they fit either role correctly (though Routh looks an awful lot like Reeves). But, from a marketing standpoint, it's going to thow the audience off, and most likely piss off many.

As for Superman Returns II, it''l have to get me really excited near press time for me to see it. I wasn't a big fan of the Return. I thought Routh was the wrong choice. Sure, he looks a lot like Reeves, but I didn't his acting was good. The direction by Bryan Singer was great, but the movie itself was lackluster. It was like a beatiful mess. The sequel can get my attention, since The Dark Knight is getting my attention, even though I didn't like Batman Begins. Good luck to you SR 2.

Feb 26, 2008

Now that the writers strike has been resolved, Warner Bros. is pushing ahead with its plans to make "Justice League" in time for a 2009 debut.

Warners tried to get "Justice League" into production earlier, but put it on indefinite hold in January, allowing the cast options to expire. At the time, the studio said it didn't want to move ahead until the scribes had another shot at the script.

Scribes Kieran and Michele Mulroney are busy polishing up the script, which is expected back at the studio in several weeks, and the cast has been advised to keep training for their superhero roles.

Director George Miller is in pre-production in Australia.

Adam Brody, cast as the Flash, is the biggest star in the superhero lineup. Rapper Common nabbed the Green Lantern role; other roles went to lesser-known thesps such as Armie Hammer Jr. (Batman) and Megan Gale (Wonder Woman).

"Justice League," based on a DC Comic, is a huge priority for the studio and considered a launching pad for future superhero projects down the line.

GorePhobia 02-27-2008 12:03 AM

I'll check it out but in my mind it doesn't really seem like it's going to be all that good. I agree with YJ it would have worked amazingly as an animated feature but live action I don't think will be so great.

April 19, 2008

A bunch of fellow webmasters had to chance to interview uber-producer Joel Silver at the Long Beach Speedway for the junket of "Speed Racer" this week.

Naturally, the site captains hit Silver with questions about his upcoming projects.

Though Silver remained tight-lipped on his long-gestating "Wonder Woman" movie (he did tell IESB however that Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland, the guys behind the Wonder Woman Spec script that Silver snapped up a year or so ago, are working on a script for it - albeit not one set in WWII, like their spec was - and hinted that the Wachowski's might somehow be involved in the film; apparently Larry Wachowski has a terrific idea for the opening, one which Silver wouldn't reveal), he did let slip some interesting news about the terminally-troubled "Justice League" movie.

According to Silver - who isn't involved in the film, but does work for the same crowd, Warner Bros, so he probably would be privy to such info - the film has been put on ice.

Says CHUD, ''I briefly cornered producer Joel Silver to ask him how the Justice League movie would affect Wonder Woman. The answer: it won't. According to Silver, who would be in the know, Justice League has been 'tabled.''

That doesn't mean the cast and crew of the film have been seated at a restaurant, nor does it mean they've been coded into tables for a web page, it actually means the film is 'off' for the time being.

With all the troubles they've had trying to get thing up - and now, with director George Miller having to fight to get Australian tax credits to film it in Sydney - it is not surprising that it's gone belly-up.

It needed to be put back in the oven to cook for a while longer.

When the film does get up, Silver said, it'll likely be without any of the currently attached cast members (Common as Green Lantern, Adam Brody as The Flash, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Teresa Palmer as Talia Al Ghul).

Hopefully it will be up and running sometime...with better stars...

Sorry JLA fans.

The_Return 04-19-2008 12:13 PM

GOOD.

This project would have been disastrous...maybe awhile down the road when the Nolan / Singer franchises are finished it'll be worthwhile, but in those series we already have very solid interpretations of two of the biggest and best characters in comicdom - why neuter them by bring out another re-invention on film so soon?

And not to sound racist, but I'd far rather see Hal Jordan era Green Lantern than Stewart...oh well. Just think of Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan *quivers with excitement*

_____V_____ 04-28-2014 08:45 AM

Exactly 5 years after this project was shelved, comes this BIG news!

Zack Snyder to Direct ‘Justice League’ Movie
To follow 'Batman/Superman' in 2018

Quote:

Warner Bros. says it is going to try again to create a big-screen version of Justice League, the long-demanded, occasionally attempted team-up between Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and other iconic DC superheroes.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the studio’s production president Greg Silverman confirmed that Zack Snyder would follow-up his 2016 Batman/Superman movie with this one, delivering Justice League to theaters sometime in 2018.

“It will be a further expansion of this universe,” Silverman told reporter Ben Fritz. “Superman vs Batman will lead into Justice League.”

Silverman would not tell the Wall Street Journal which heroes would be in the film, or how they planned to handle characters such as Green Lantern, who was played by Ryan Reynolds in a 2011 underperformer that has few admirers and disappointed badly enough to not get a sequel.

The studio previously tried to mount a Justice League film, with DJ Corona as Superman and Armie Hammer as Batman, but scrapped the plan in 2008 when a writers strike and expected actors strike derailed the project. It would have been directed by Mad Max filmmaker George Miller.
