For anyone interested in "talking" about western movies, here are some great sites that I like to play on:
www.spaghetti-western.net www.dukewayne.com www.truewestmagazine.com www.clinteastwood.org |
I am major western fan-o...they come on AMC every Sat morning and I usually catch them all. There is an old one out there with...Ronald Reagan...yep, I believe its the Man with the Tin Star...damn good western. Many modern westerns (inc. Wyatt Earp w Costner) have stolen some of the scenes and dialogue out of this one.
By the way...The Appaloosa is total shit, sorry but that Brando movie is horrible...now One Eyed Jacks w him is a good revenge western. Grim Prarie Tales ahas a story called McComas in it with Dylan McDermot that is cool. Once Upon a TIme in the West...the Good the Bad and the Ugly...Great Films...so is Warlock and just about any western with Fonda, Peck, Stewart, Wayne...I have all John Wayne westerns, even the 1930's ones on DVD, someone posted it earlier, but it was correct...Last Man Standing is a Solid remake of Fistful of Dollars. |

Shit, almost forgot...Lonesome Dove...the first entire movie is a phenomonal flick...Dead Mans walk needs help, Streets of Laredo is above average

Lucio Fulci's "Four of the Apocalypse."

for anyone interested in westerns based on a historical event, try this marathon. These films are all based on the same story but are all completly different:
My Darling Clementine (1946)-Henry Fonda, Victor Mature Gunfight At The OK Corral (1957) Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas Hour Of The Gun (1967) James Garner, Jason Robards Tombstone (1993) Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer Wyatt Earp (1994) Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid |
im not into westerns but i enjoyed The Searchers
|
has anyone mentioned open range?
saw it over the weeked awesome film. totally and completely awesome final showdown. some sketchy editing here and there, but it doesn't do much to hurt the film. |
The Proposition sucked!

The Way West"
-Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, Richard Widmark, Sally Field (her movie debut) Wagon train drama about settlers heading out of Missouri and heading to Oregon and finding drama, adventure and romance along the way. Not much action but well acted and a good solid story. |

You do realize that The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the third installment in a trilogy, right? The Man With No Name Trilogy: A Fistful of Dollars (1964) For a Few Dollars More (1965) The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966) All starring Clint Eastwood as...yep, you guessed it, The Man With No Name. So if you liked Clint's character in T.G.T.B.A.T.U., you'll love him just the same in the other flicks. You've only seen a third of the awesomeness. |

"The Virginian" (1946)
Arriving at Medicine Bow, eastern schoolteacher Molly Woods meets two cowboys, irresponsible Steve and the "Virginian," who gets off on the wrong foot with her. To add to his troubles, the Virginian finds that his old pal Steve is mixed up with black-hatted Trampas and his rustlers...then finds himself at the head of a posse after said rustlers; and Molly hates the violent side of frontier life. Decent remake of the Owen Wister novel, not quite as good as the Gary Cooper version, but not a bad film at all. |
I should be getting One Upon A Time In The West sometime today.
|
"Adio's Sabata"
-Yul Brynner Master gunslinger Sabata helps some Mexican revolutionaries steal a wagonload of gold. The "imitation" Sabata is IMO a terrific western adventure, much better then the official sequel "Return Of Sabata" For those who don't know, this film was not originally going to be a Sabata film. It was originally going to be titled Indio Black, but the title was changed to cash in on the original Sabata film. Lee Van Cleef was unavailable to play Sabata, as he was committed to making The Magnificent Seven Ride! (1972) where he played Chris Adams, a role made famous by Yul Brynner in The Magnificent Seven (1960). Instead, Brynner signed on for the role of Sabata, a role made famous by Van Cleef. |
