Leave the conversion for those who want to be converted and for those who are given that opportunity to choose for themselves thier own religious path..

Shit, not to ruin the thread, but I'm Christian and I fucking HATE when people come back with this bullshit. I don't shove scipture anywhere... not down anybody's throat, up anybody's ass, or in anybody's face. Don't generalize and say "Christians"... try using a specific offenders name if you don't mind.

(This isn't directed to Stubborn or anybody really unless they generalize and say they hate Christians. I get it all the time... friends saying Christians are always after them like they're frickin' frackin' Frankenstein or something.")

I feel...

Parents should indeed spend more time with their children, even if it means making a little less money.

Children today are overmedicated... maybe that's why stupidity seems so high.

I don't understand how people justify spending the amount of money that they do on things, if I had billions I still wouldn't buy a car that cost more than $50,000...

As for movies, I still subcribe to the theory that because more movies are getting released, more suck. It's almost too easy for them to make some sort of profit which increases the number of risk taking films we see but also paves the way for inane drivel that should have never got released.

'word'..over the religious thingy .. and your right..(soz about that)..
It reminded me of a certain .recent thread that got my knickers in a twist. 'lowers her eyes'
generalising should be banned..

As for a parent who works 2 jobs..ummm
i never had a mum..
well i did..but she worked 3 jobs so yeah..i never had my mum at all..
Why she did this is beyond me..we didnt need the money..we didnt need anything..we did need a mother.
My big brother raised me..my big brother was the one who told me.all about the personal embarrasing stuff a mother shouldve have there for.
Ha..on her days off ..she slept and we were made to play outside ..QUIETLY..or passed on to her big/fat/ugly/blackassed sister.

I'm afraid I don't have much of an answer like the rest of the thread.

Sadly, every Goddamn thing.

Yeah, there's plenty left to do. Hollywood just needs to stop thinking inside their "We know this will make us money" box and start hiring some writers that have some fuckin' imagination. (Roderick Usher is gonna shatter the mold though. I can feel it.)

Feast, Jeepers Creepers, The Skeleton Key, Cabin Fever, Shaun of the Dead... There's some fresh stuff that's come out in the last few years. Sure the ideas of monsters, voodoo, infection & zombies have all been done, but there's ways to make them fresh & unique and those films I noted above all did that in my opinion. At least they are original stories and I didn't feel like I was watching a film I had already seen a dozen different times with a dozen different titles.

So it's not right when people ''hate'' on your religion but it's ok when you say someone else's is wrong and annoying? My grandmother has been a Witness for about 35 years now, and she's also the most caring, selfless, perfectly sane person I know. Same goes for the rest of the religion with the exception of a few bad apples as every religion has. True, they can be a little annoying, some of them decide to go door to door a little earlier than others. There's someone else who used to go up to people and different situations out of the blue with no invite and start preaching, his name was Jesus, you ready to call him annoying and wrong too?

I don't remember saying that, but i'd bet you it was no less than 10 minutes after one came to our door and wouldn't leave for 20 minutes... (no kidding)

What I quoted obviously came directly from one of your post, so you obviously said it.

To use your defense, did the person that came to your door hurt you in any way? I heavily doubt it.

1st, I didn't deny it, just said I didn't remember it. 2nd, actually the person got rude with my mom before my dad stepped in,

3rd- I'm not perfect, everyone makes generalizations once in a while, slipped.

Fair enough.

Posher778 02-23-2007 08:28 PM

i don't mean to generalize, I really hate it when I (or anyone) does that. Its hard not to sometimes because naturally, if one person does something to you, you think of all of them like that. Like if one person gets a crazy baptist all over them with their religion, then they automatically get a "bloody baptists" attitude about everything.

Refusing to leave your property? They deserve a thumping. They can shove their beliefs up their asses if they can not take "no" for an answer.

Posher778 02-23-2007 08:49 PM

That's what gets me. My dad was getting pretty pissed too. He was like, "we're RELIGIOUS, go HOME!" And he wouldn't take the hint.

Shoving any belief down your throat is no different than being Hitler in my book, no matter what you are preaching.

stubbornforgey 02-23-2007 09:46 PM

Over here they are more respectful..
if you tell them your not interested..they will politely smile and leave
or if you tell them you are of a different religion..they apologise and leave.
Its when your out shopping and they are 'yelling n screaming on the street corner
and pushing pamphlets into your hands..''
OR..you recognise a drunk from the night before who was
sprawled on your front lawn..
standing there..yelling into the mic that he/she is a recovered drunk that was touched by jesus..

ferretchucker 02-24-2007 02:15 AM

Salesmen can smell fear over here. Once some mormons came to the door and my dad had to crush the foot in guy's foot with the door before they left. Damn mormons with their hidden tablets and racist views

Say WHAT?!?

RE: The "religion" bit.
I'm born catholic (or maybe christian, yknow, one of the "carbon copy" ones with Jesus and the cross and all that...), but don't follow any particular religion.
Why?
Mainly because of two things in pretty much all "bibles".
1: If you fuck around with the wrong religion, aka worship false idols - you're fucked, or yknow, doing wrong...so how do I know I got the "right" one? I could be pissing the "one true god" off more and more every time...I mean, how should confession (or equivalent) go on that one? "Well, I don't know if I should confess this or not, but since this might not be the right religion, I've potentially been breaking the rules"?
No thanks.
2: The whole (at least this is the Jesus type bible one...most preach peace unto others for the better part though, so...) "do unto others" bit.
Ok, so treat people how you think you oughta be treated?
I just figure I do that most of the time...unless a person is acting an asshole themselves, in which case, any mistreatment by me, I'll just call karma on behalf of whatever greater power is out there...

I figure that and "do more good than bad" in general oughta have MOST religions covered. Hey if it AINT good enough, then there isn't a "god" I want a thing to do with in the first place. I mean hey, assuming there is a greater power, I'd be wasting the brain provided to me if I DIDN'T have questions about life, faith, spirituality...etc. I don't feel bad for questioning it all...

I dunno what I fall under...I mean, I believe that there's SOMETHING other than us out there, some force of ...guidance... maybe? Something that has defined our evolution and development as a world, and as a species...I just can't bring myself to definitively say who or what I think it/him/her is.

When it comes to "pushing religion" on others...
I think it's a path that people can and should undertake on their own. Parents can of course explain their beliefs, and "raise" children to follow, but I also think there should be honesty - other religions shouldn't be demonised, and freedom to explore them should be allowed, if the child so chooses.
As for the "cold canvassers" so to speak, I think that everyone has a right to pimp their thing to an extent, but, "no thanks" should cover it if a person is not interested...I cannot say I agree with calling on a person at home, but the streets, fine, sure...a person can stop if they want to, and should be easily allowed to keep walking if they are so inclined.
Anymore pushy than that, is annoying, and not respectful towards choices of the individual. However, it's about the person in that case, not so much the religion, and I don't think blanket statements about a religion on the basis of a few pushy fucks.
That said, I think the guys called mormons (fellas that wanna be M.I.B, right?) ought to come across a little less like salesmen. I've been approached, and followed, and this is not welcome behaviour - their methods in general are largely giving them a bad reputation.
The rest, have not given me all that much cause for concern.

pinkerton 02-24-2007 10:49 AM

I agree with what you said about your personal religion and how to deal with your children about the issue.I consider myself agnostic. The state board of education is trying to pass a bill to teach creationism as part of science. This pisses me off to no end that a school can influence/brainwash my child with this shit. What happened to seperation of church and state?

Phalanx 02-24-2007 01:12 PM

Don't send your kid to a catholic/christian operated school then...
I've been to both myself. Being forced to go to church every second day at school was pretty fucking lame.
