Sci-fi with horror elements. Another along the same lines - Star Trek: Elite Force 2...Such a cool game...great storylines, and some fucking hectic battle scenes. More'n a few jumps... NOES on nes was probably one of the better film-related horror games. Aliens on arcade was cool, so was Alien 3 on genesis, and Alien: the gun on arcade. Hmmm...metal Slug 2 had zombies...? Altered beast, would that count? Postal 2, and p2: Apocalypse weekend, for SURE. Just about as close as you can get to being a serial killer rampaging lunatic...Gorey as all fuck, and the expansion pack has some awesome zombie stuff. |

Duke Nukem: Plutonium Pack had some great horror additions (liek an Aliens style level), plus Duke Nukem's space levels were claustrophobic and pretty godamn scary in their own right. |
I guess I must be really out of the video game loop now, because I'd say Donkey Kong, Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Super Ghouls and Ghosts!
|
Luigi's Mansion
Ghostbusters for the C64 was AMAZING (buying traps and driving around town...) Carmageddon When I have time I'll think about it and try to remember, bet I'll think of at least 10/20 more. "VAE VICTUS!!" |
How about a few arcade classics
Joust Dragon's Lair Galaga Ms. Pac Man |
The list of Resident Evil games...
The Suffering, The Suffering:Ties That Bind. |
Oh yeah, add Pinball of the Dead and Typing of the Dead just to have a pinball game and educational game on the list. :)
Typing of the dead is great btw. |
Alone in the Dark
Sweet Home Clocktower The Haunting: Starring Poulterguy Shadow Man Messiah Jade Empire (the demons and the whole dead orphans thing) Mortal Kombat Master of Monsters Prey (sci-fi horror) Halo 1 & 2 (more Sci-Fi stuff, does that count?) Gears of War (more horror than Halo, some parts like Pitch Black) Hunter: The Reckoning Darkwatch Deathrow (sports + decapitations) Cold Fear Psi-Ops Painkiller: Hell Wars Review Undying Dino Crisis Parasite Eve The Thing The Secret of Monkey Island (ok not TOO much horror, but there's some!) Hexen Darkstalkers Zork (text based, had lots of horror elemnets...) Blackthorne Barbarian (loved beheading somebody and having the troll come get the head) Might and Magic (lots of D&D based games had horror elements) Mutant League Football (and Hockey) Out of this World (the beginning alone with that black beast...) Flashback Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee Alien 3 Gargoyles |
So we're just going with "whatever" now?
OK. Shining Force "n" Bomberman World Operation Bodycount Donkey Kong (Gameboy version) D&D: Shadows over Mystaria Quest for Glory series The EARLY sonic series, before it turned into something else... Ghostbusters on Genesis Sam & Max Rolo the Elephant (kiddy, but anyone who's played it HAS TO acknowledge it's awesomeness) Time Killers Broken Sword (One day I'd like to play them all) Shadow of the Beast Psycho Fox MarioLand 2: 6 Golden Coins Wonderboy in Monsterland Aztek Adventure Dino Crisis 2 Kickle Cubicle Rock N Roll Racing (the original, not that 3d peice of shit) Earthworm Jim Cadillaics & Dinosaurs Cannon Fodder Crypt Killers B.A.A.L Golden Sun Soleil ...I can probably get back with more. |
Quote:
Earthworm Jim has a couple elements but I didn't list that because it really didn thave enough, just an evil cat and some cool music when you fought him. Rock N' Roll Racing I almost listed because of the characters. Obviously D&D games include monsters of all kinds. Bomberman and Sonic are just silly... Oh well, just my opinion. |
Quote:
I saw that there were some non-horror titles going on, so I added as such. Donkey Kong = Well...was King Kong not considered horror at some point? Giant monstrous ape and all? DK had the same, and a bunch of at least 20+ types of different "monsters" of the creepycrawly variety. I think the ape alone gets this one. I didn't mention Mario World, I mentioned Marioland 2, which has ghosts, and a haunted castle level towards the end with the first appearance of Wario, which was something like a mutated goblin... Bomberman had ghosts, and suicide bombers, it was pretty tense. Sonic - tell me you didn't feel an sense of impending doom in the underwater and lava levels...ok, maybe it wasn't "horror", but it had the same effect at times IMO. Earthworm Jim I agree on. The Hell Level, the freaky bosses...etc. But, I'm willing to sort out my list a LITTLE. Shining Force Bomberman World Operation Bodycount Donkey Kong (Gameboy version) D&D: Shadows over Mystaria Quest for Glory series Ghostbusters on Genesis Time Killers Broken Sword (One day I'd like to play them all) Shadow of the Beast MarioLand 2: 6 Golden Coins Wonderboy in Monsterland Dino Crisis 2 Earthworm Jim Cadillaics & Dinosaurs Crypt Killers B.A.A.L Soleil - Cool eerie feel, good atmo and music. How 'bout "earthbound", mutant alien invasion storyline, definately horror-ish, even though full of comedy. Space Gun Demons Crest |
Earthbound rules, enough said there.
Phantasmagoria, can't forget that. I guess whether it's "horror" or not can be debated, that's what the list is for right? :) |
ok who's spending half their day on ign.com haha ;)
|
I haven't looked up a single thing myself, I've played all these.
7th Guest? And...uh....one I remember but not by name, it was on genesis, you wake up with some doctors talking, and you're in a morgue drawer, supposedly "dead". Game starts from there. Action/rpg. Seemed a little twisted and pretty cool. |
I believe you, because I'm bad like that too. I used to collect old games and systems but recently sold them all. I had around 10 nes systems and 300 nes games alone. decided to give it up and get more movies. I figured I'd use the movies more than the games but since I've been buying I've gotten around 150 movies and not opened the first one. but still they display nicely until I do decide to watch them

Played every game listed.... I guess it helped to be exposed to videogames at 3 years old because my mom and dad were into them. :) |
I don't think I've seen Sacrifice mentioned yet.

Some of the games I remember playing that I enjoyed:
Monster In My Pocket Monster Party Demons Crest Koudelka Shadow Hearts Fatal Frame II Blood Omen 2 Not sure if those were mentioned yet, but I wanted to type them down before I forgot. |
Oh, and I forgot "Carnevil". A lot of the lists on here have some of my favorite games on them.
|
Resident Evil 2 was great, also Alien Trilogy!

Evil Night was also a fun acrade game. dudes with weedwackers and drills using them as weapons.... Area 51, also decent arcade game. |
Thanks VClown, almost forgot Monstery Party! Was just dropping in to suggest it.

OK, let's get some organization going on here. A little sorting and I find out we have 178 suggestions. There are actually more games than that, especially if you're going to vote on each individual game for the series. I'll try to find a little time to sort them all out, like the Gabriel Knight, Zork, Resident Evil & Circle of Blood series, just to name a few. Also, there's a lot for the C64, Coleco, Intelivision and such that I need to look up because I can't remember the names. Here ya go, Vod:
5 Days a Guest A Nightmare on Elm Street Alien 3 Alien Crush Alien vs. Predator Aliens Vs Predator 2 Alone in the Dark Altered Beast American McGees' Alice Area 51 Arkham Horror B.A.A.L Barbarian Black Stone Chronicles Blackthorne Blood Blood 2 Blood Omen 2 Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain Bloodrayne Boktai Bomberman World Breakdown Broken Sword Cadillaics & Dinosaurs Call of Cthulhu Carmageddon Carnevil Carrier Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Chill Clive Barker's Undying Clock Tower Cold Fear Crypt Killers D D&D: Shadows over Mystaria Dark Wizard Darkstalkers Darkwatch Dead Rising Deathrow Deception déjà vu Demons Crest Deus Ex Diablo Dino Crisis Dino Crisis 2 Donkey Kong (Gameboy version) Doom Doom 2 Doom 3 Dragon's Lair Duke Nuke'em Dungeon Keeper Earthbound Earthworm Jim Eternal Darkness F.E.A.R. If you can, also try to use full game titles. |
It sucked, but there was a game called Killing Zone on the original Playstation.
|
Manhunt...

Yup, that was it.
I think there was actually 2 different versions of the game, 'cos I remember playing another that was completely different, but yeah, the one with the body in the drawer, was cool... Flayed, you forgot "NOES nes" and flashback's there twice. I have never played much of this one, but "day of the tentacle". I'd also like to add shining force Goblin invasion, badguys calling demon spirits and dragons, monsters aplenty. |
Demon's Crest

Man this thread has me plugging my 360 controller into the pc and firing up the EMUs.

You people are forgetting the most horrifying game ever....I shudder when I think about it.
I was just a young man of 22 when I purchased my first gaming system.....well...second if you count PONG. I'm talking about the Intellivision.A fucking powerhouse of a system. It was a dark and stormy night ....the wind was blowing outside, rain dancing on the roof....off in the distance a lone wolf did howl [ok..maybe it was a dog]...I open the package of my new game...pop open a beer...and start to play. Nothing could prepare me for the horror....nothing. Giant spiders....big bats...and robots...yes robots.I'm talking of no other than... NIGHTSTALKER http://www.videogamecritic.net/image...ht_stalker.png |
Nightstalker? Never played it... looks intense, almost like Adventure.
I decided to look into PC game from the underdogs I could get and haven't played yet, may have some new submissions if I get time to play. |
