Are you serious? Batman Begins was IMO the best Batman film ever. Yes better than the one with Nicholson. And Tarcher, the Tim Burton shit was HORRIBLE!

alkytrio666 07-16-2006 03:25 PM

Oh come on, people.

Action = The Matrix = Action.

The Matrix, hands down.

AUSTIN316426808 07-16-2006 03:32 PM

@posher- It's 10-6.

Yes I am. The Scarecrow get-up was horrible (though Cillian Murphy's performance was excellent), Christian Bale sounded like he was taking a crap the whole time, the backstory was ruined, and the action was only enjoyable half of the time, and the backstory of Batman was stale. Tim Burton could do a dark version of Batman, Christopher Nolan could not. I'm not saying it's the worst movie ever made, nor is it even considered bad enough to be in the 100 worst (or 200 worst), but it is a shoddy prequel and a shoddy film. I give it a 1/5.

BTW- Was it Austin316426808 that also didn't like Batman Begins like I did?

It wasnt a prequel. Its not related to the Burton series at all, it's a whole new film.

Posher - Just because you like this film more is no reason to call Burton's film horrible. Fantasic movie, Id really like to see you come up with a reason why you didnt like it.

It was a prequel, but I didn't mean it as it was a prequel to all of the Tim Burton's Batman's. I'm just saying that Nolan tried to bring back that dark feeling to the Batman series, but, unlike Burton, he was unsuccesful.

@Posher- I'm just voicing my opinion. I don't care if you feel that Batman Begins was more superior than Tim Burton's Batman. I know a lot of people feel that way. But, a lot of people feel the same way I do too. Oh, and when is the next match going to be up?

Sorry, I'm not with ya on this one. I haven't yet seen a Bale movie I don't like.

I thought the backstory was done very well and realistically. Bale's performance was great, I thought the voice he used as Batman was a good move. Nolan is a great director and I love his interpretation of Batman.

Sorry about that. Well, it might've been bwind22, but it doesn't really matter.

AUSTIN316426808 07-16-2006 04:49 PM

By exact definition it's a prequel, but since Begins and the films to come have no relation to the other four, I don't consider it a prequel.

The new Star Wars films tell the story of the events that lead to the rule of the empire and the rebellion that takes place in 'A New Hope', that's what a prequel is. Batman Begins has a different story, different characters, and most notable, the Joker is just showing up. It's not really a prequel rather than a new start. Just my opinion.

you wish it was me, posher. i didn't hate the movie... just didn't like it and didn't understand why everyone was sucking its dick. i thought it was better than the 3rd and 4th, but not worthy of comparison to the 1st and 2nd.

bwind22 07-17-2006 08:23 PM

The first Tim Burton Batman movie is, in my opinion, the definitive one. I liked that waaaaay better than Batman Begins.

I did not like Batman Returns very much at all & Batman Forever & Batman and Robin were downright terrible, so I'd rank Batman Begins as the #3 Batman movie of all time...

That's right, I said it. #3! Batman Begins is slightly less entertaining the Batman The Movie, starring Adam West.

Batman
Batman The Movie
Batman Begins
Batman Returns
Batman Forever
Batman & Robin

That's how I'd rank the Batman movies in terms of overall enjoyability. I'm sure it's not a very popular order, but what do I care....

Anyways, The Matrix is a better action movie than any of them, hands down.

My vote goes for Batman.

The_Return 07-18-2006 06:04 AM

Good Lord man, when are you going to put an end to this match?

By the way, here's how I rank the Batman movies:

Batman
Batman Begins
Batman Forever
Batman Returns
Batman and Robin

I havent seen the Adam West version, though Im sure it's alot of fun:D

I wouldn't say love but I enjoyed it.

Empire of the Sun- Great movie.
Newsies- Average, fun flick.
Swing Kids- Same as Newsies but a little better.
American Psycho- Great movie.
Equilibrium- Great movie.
The Machinist- Great movie.
Batman Begins- Great movie.

Looking forward to seeing the rest and I'll be in the theatre opening night of The Prestige.

As far as the Batman list...

Batman Begins - Batman
Batman Returns
Batman Forever

That's not an impressive filmography to me.

Empire of the Sun- Never saw it
Newsies- Never saw it
Swing Kids- Gay
American Psycho- Great movie.
Equilibrium- Over-rated Matrix rip off. Still decent action film though.
The Machinist- I found it boring.
Batman Begins- It was cool.

I think Batman Begins, The Machinist, American Psycho & Equilibrium are all over-rated quite a bit, especially at this site. American Psycho & Batman are still very cool movies, just not as great as they are touted to be.

Return... SEE the Adam West version!!! It's got some of the cheesiest lines in film history!

AUSTIN316426808 07-18-2006 06:58 AM

You're entitled to your opinion, an opinion that obviously isn't to high on Bale and/or his career. I on the other hand, along with alot of people on and outside of this site think very highly of him and his career. I'm not saying you're wrong because you're going against the majority on the subject, that would just be stupid, I was just pointing out that he is well liked elsewhere.

It's all opinions, non of which are right or wrong, just personal preference, so hey, whatever the fuck the ever.

I agree.

The Batman list, the Bale list... my sentiments exactly (except for Swing Kids which I haven't seen so I'd replace with Reign of Fire on that list).

Miss Olivia 07-18-2006 08:54 AM

I think Empire of the Sun is one of the best WWII movies ever made. It was a very different perspective.

My two cents.

Disease 07-18-2006 08:56 AM

that tom cruise smile, don't you just want to put a steel cap through it?

Disease 07-18-2006 09:08 AM

who are you miss olivia? empire is a terrible movie, but read the book, J.G. Ballard, and then read his follow up novel. it's all based on his child hood. what more could inspire a writer. he was once asked to write the novelisastion of alien but he turned it down.... i want to know you miss....

Miss Olivia 07-18-2006 09:16 AM

LOL I read the book as well, and I loved it.
The first time I saw the movie I was in my early teens, and it affected me pretty deeply. I didn't really understand yet that things like that happened in the world. When I read the book, I was older, and I appreciated the differences....but I still loved the movie.

waffle 07-18-2006 11:31 AM

miss olivia I'm with you there, Empire of the Sun is a cracking film. Okay, it's a bit Spielbergy in places, but being a Spielberg film, I guess he has the right.

Plus - Equilibrium was great, plus it didn't rip off the Matrix, unless wearing long black coats counts. It invented gun-fu darnit! Plus, I like seeing people get their heads sliced in two.

Anyway - innit time for another match-up?

Yellow Jacket 07-18-2006 12:00 PM

Since we're into this ranking of the Batman films, here's my list (not including Batman the Movie with Adam West since I have yet to see it):

Batman
Batman Returns
Batman Forever
Batman & Robin
Batman Begins

Let the flaming begin...

Batman
Batman Returns
Batman & Robin

Miss Olivia 07-18-2006 01:13 PM

I loved the OG Batman movie. It's campy and fun, and I loved the series. Burgess Meredith was awesome as the Penguin.
His penguin submarine was the best.

Freak 07-18-2006 02:24 PM

The only Batman movie I ever liked was with Michael Keaton. The rest were just horrible.

Oh, I know what you're saying man. No need to elaborate.

I fully realize that my opinion isn't the popular one around here. And it's not like I think Bale is a bad actor or anything. He's fine. It's just that I won't ever be rushing to the theatre on a Friday because "There's a new Christian Bale movie out today" or anything like that.

Me and you think the same bwind. Christian Bale is alright, but not an actor for me to go crazy over. Now Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Red Eye, Breakfast on Pluto) and Charlie Hunnam (Green Street Hooligans) are a different story.
