The Mothman 01-18-2006 07:25 AM

I know ill get bashed for this but Mothman Prophecies fucks me up real good for some reason. just eerie as hell. scares me shitless. hey, its just my opinion. leave me alone:mad:

Juicy Jon 01-18-2006 08:06 AM

Mothman was pretty creepy. It would be nice to get some explaination about the Mothman though.

urgeok 01-18-2006 08:20 AM

i can remember every movie that ever scared me :

- the norliss tapes - TV movie back in the day - scared the shit out of me

- Tales from the Crypt - 1972. I saw it in the theatre when i was 11 - and not yet a horror fan. I actually went to the lobby to wait out the ending i was so scared.

- an all night horrorama at the drive in had me scared at first but by the time Dawn of the Dead rolled around i wasnt frightened at all.

(saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, The Prowler, High Risk - [non horror] Hills Have Eyes)
it ran from dusk till dawn ... THIS turned me into a horror fan.
And since i recently aquired The Prowler .. i now have every film i saw that night on DVD.

- The Changeling - falling chandelier made me jump out of my seat

- Alien - made me jump in the theatre ..

- The Grudge (american) - made me jump twice .. props to that.

jumping is more being startled - not scared - so i'd have to say by my personal experience - Tales From the Crypt is MY personal scariest horror film of all time.

there is no such thing as THE scariest horror film of all time because each of us are scared by different things - or are not scared at all by movies anymore..

Re: Re: ...

I forgot about that part... :(

During the grudge I was too busy preparing myself for scares to enjoy the movie. I rented it later and realized there wasn't much movie behind them though, in my opinion anyway. I haven't seen the original though, how much better is it?

in my opinion .. they are almost equals

midge05 01-18-2006 11:08 AM

The grudge scared me real abd, but i got over it when i watched the rental version.

I dont really have top 5 scariest movie, with me it isnt a case of films scaring you, but films making you feel sick y'know. Like grindhouse, texas chainsaw or house of 1000corpses style.

I've seen it but I'm wondering if that's the same one with the short story of the woman who runs over the hitchhiker who keeps showing up asking for a ride.

this is a british chronology of short stories ..
Joan collins was in one,

creepshow #1 (the Peter Cushing sequence) was a lot like Tales From The Crypt ... so was the 1st story

*********SPOILER **************

the last story in tales was of a poor house for blind people back in the day who were treated cruelly by the guy running the house ..
so for revenge they created a maze with razorblades stuck in the walls that he was forced to run through in the dark.

I left before that point ,,,,

Posher778 01-18-2006 02:02 PM

even though more a sci fi, action movie, i was disturbed and a little frightened by war of the worlds. Just the idea of that happening was a little intense, and the (spoiler) whole, suck the blood out of us with a needle tube was scary, and how it made like, vein roots on the ground. That movie had a great suspense scene though too, with tom cruise and dakota fanning in the cellar, when the big search probe was looking around and it was dead silent. reminded me of jurassic park in the kitchen.:D

The_Return 01-18-2006 02:13 PM

I thought the new War of the Worlds was AWFUL. Some of the lines were cring-inducing ["Is it the terrorists?" being among the worst], the acting was BAD, Spielburg had to make it a "touching" family drama....the only thing it had going for it were the effects. Those were incredible.

Posher778 01-18-2006 02:23 PM

a kid said the terrorist line, kids say everything, so that doesnt count.

but what did you think of the probe part in the cellar?

i thought it was pretty effective until the last 5 minutes ...

Posher778 01-20-2006 02:42 PM

yeah i no... the mom just mumbled "thanks" and that was the end...

he gave EVERYTHING for those kids.

thats not what i meant :

*************Spoilers **************

the bullshit that had him carrying his daughter like she was on her last legs - only to have her pop up and energetically run to her mom .. it was obviously for the visual effect .. seemed hollow to me,

also .. the son shouldnt have lived .. that was just feel good hollywood bullshit..

Posher778 01-20-2006 02:52 PM

well... yeah... personally, i think that everyone should have lived....

except tom cruise.

Agreed!

***More Spoilers***

Another thing that bugged me about the ending was the fact that they were killed off by A FRIGGIN COLD. Sure, that was in the original book, but the book didnt really make a point of saying that they had been observing us for millions of years. In the book, it was more like "Heh, they only watched us for a couple weeks. Guess we showed them that planning pays off!". This was more like "Hey! They watched for millions of years and didnt realise they could cath a cold. Stupid martians...". Another thing along the same lines: Why didnt they die when the came here initially to "plant" the tripods? The whole thing is a plot hole as far as Im concerned.

***End of Spoilers***

Yet another thing that bugged me. Speilberg tried to make us "feel" for the family, yet they were some of the least likeable characters Ive ever seen:rolleyes:

urgeok 01-20-2006 03:03 PM

i had no problems with the way the martians died .. it was true to the book and i'm cool with that.
It was written along time ago (1898)
They didnt understand a lot of what we do now ....

the tripods already been buried was more visual bullshit that wasnt in the origional book.

Granted it did look cool.

I will give it that. The effects were pretty much the only part worth watching, IMO.

Posher778 01-20-2006 03:07 PM

the sound the tripods made was eerie.

liebesspiel 02-02-2006 02:04 PM

I'd say The Exorcist.

PR3SSUR3 02-03-2006 05:51 AM

I'd say The Blair Witch Project.

Then The Shining.

The Blair Witch Project was pretty scary.

Slipknot 666 02-03-2006 11:17 AM

I dont have a " scariest film " but in childs play 1 , When She looks in chuckys bak and there is no batteries, i was pretty freaked at that for some reason :p

Viddy 02-04-2006 01:45 AM

I have Nightmare on elm street 3 terryfying!
It was the best in the series, and completly scary!
:D

It was a bit scary, but the original A Nightmare On Elm Street was the scariest movie among the whole series.

RavageRitual 02-04-2006 11:06 AM

When I was realy little Mars Attacks freaked me out

Posher778 02-04-2006 11:32 AM

i think actually dawn of the dead was the scariest movie to me... either one, because it isnt about acting or anything. The idea of having to LIVE while everyone else is dead and after you is unbearable. Living in a post-apocalyptic world is my greatest fear.

sabersword 02-04-2006 11:37 AM

Scariest movie.

Ya, the Mouthman Ps. If you liked the movie, read the book by John A. Keel. He was a UFO resercher on the case in the late 60s. No real explination as to what mouthman is but, it does have some conection to ufos. Mr. Keel goes indepth on motheman and gives good information as well as other phenomina.

KF100 02-05-2006 07:18 AM

Scariest Movie Ever!

1.The blair witch project.(I could'nt take a shortcut in the woods after seeing it.
2.The last house on the left.
3.The texas chainsaw massacre(both)
4.IT(i saw it when i was really little and can't watch it anymore. actually i think I'll watch it tonight.
5.Halloween(I guess theres something creepy about someone trying to kill everyone in his family.

Skaboy 02-06-2006 02:29 AM

I've said it elsewhere (possibly in this thread) and I'll say it again: The Woman in Black.

No amount of gore is going to scare me, although it may be disturbing in extreme circumstances. Jumps do just that: make you jump. The Woman in Black though is the only film to have ever made my spine crawl with genuine fear.

It's hard to come by but if those of you citing Blair Witch, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm St etc as the scariest film want a real, ghost story scare, The Woman in Black will deliver. It's not about gore or jumps; it's pure terror, like you feel during a nightmare.

alkytrio666 02-06-2006 10:59 AM

The Exorcist

Zero 02-06-2006 11:05 AM

agreed - exorcist by far

VampiricClown 02-06-2006 06:19 PM

My votes on Dead Birds. That's by far the only movie that's ever creeped me out.
