Well. . . I'm not sure whether I admire HB or not. I used to have a fairly short temper but about 10 or so years ago I got into it with a guy who'd bumped into me on the sidewalk and he pulled a gun (.380). I didn't get shot or anything - he just stuck it in my face and told me to "F--- Off" but it made me much less confronational.

I tend to agree with Urg on this one - I don't want to be the beligerent asshole so I choose the path of avoidance and peace. (and maybe some fear)

I dont do these things for admiration or honor, I do it because the lack of respect some people have for others is staggering and as long as I'm in the presence of it I will have something to say about it. I come on here and I joke around, and even get into arguments, but have no doubts if I were to meet any of the members of the board, I would have nothing but total respect for all of you until one of you or I were treated disrespectfully. And I treat strangers no differently.
You've got my total respect [he squeeks meekly as he slowly steps away. . . . ]

ItsAlive75 08-02-2005 10:20 AM

I still think its unnecessary...

And I don't believe that a theatre would back you once the cops came. I don't think that would matter to the cops, you'd still be arrested.

ItsAlive75 08-02-2005 10:23 AM

Assault is assault, it doesn't matter how you slice it.

And if you said she was your sister, they would have ID'ed her regardless.

ItsAlive75 08-02-2005 10:25 AM

My point is, how did you not get arrested for assault if you physically attacked a kid? I don't get it...

urgeok 08-02-2005 10:27 AM

i'd have slipped out and got a theatre employee.
Does that make me a coward ?

nope ... i just protected my wife (and kid - because we mostly see kids movies as a family these days.)

i'm 6' 2" ... i can take care of myself .... but the other part of the equation is - i dont want to go to jail for assault either.

bottom line ... i try to be a responsible adult.
my only real fear is being apart from my family.

Another would be what your children think of you. If I had a kid I wouldn't want him to remember the time his daddy attacked some dude at a theatre.

Well you know, being the big bully that I am....I actually do have a story, though it doesn't involve the theatre...it involves being at an IHOP one night...when I was living in Orlando in fact ;)

But ANYWAY...to make a long story short...my friend and I were eating, when the guys at the table next to us just started calling the waitress "slow" and "stupid"...even after that, she still tried to be polite to them...but a couple of minutes later, I noticed that she was behind the counter near a corner wiping tears from her eyes. So while it was probably stupid...I just told the two guys that it must make them feel really good to put down women for no reason..must make them feel like real "men". YEAH...VERY STUPID. They didn't say anything back to me, although I realize I could've been in serious trouble if they had been the "wrong type" of people to say that to.

But anyway, I got up and went over and gave the waitress a hug. She said something to the effect of "Thank you so much for doing that for me...I've put up with alot of things, but that just hit me real hard b/c recently I've been going thru alot". We ended up talking for a while, and everytime I went in after that we would talk. She really had nobody else in her life, and was all on her own...sometimes people just need somebody to talk to.

So anyway....I'd like to think that maybe I was there for a reason that night...however sappy that may sound. I think it also helped decide my career path for me. I can't stand seeing people mistreated for no reason.

OVER AND OUT ;)

I agree with Hellboy. I once wolloped some teenagers for terrorizing some kids no older than 10. These guys were close to 20 and all they were doing was showing off for their girlfriends.

I am not saying I want to be Batman or anything but thats the problem with society today, no one wants to get involved. I couldnt stand there and watch these 2 boys cry and be terrified by a group of bullies. It aint right.

ANd I grew up without a father, my kids are 4 and 6. I dont want them gong through the shit that I did. But if its my time to go, I will be back in the next life and there will be hell to pay.'

Urgeok, What if Hellboy hadnt done what he did and the girl got raped in the parking lot? Lot of what ifs??

I kind of like to think that the righteous man always comes out on top but its not always the case.

Hellboy and I are probably few folks that grew up with street smarts and know how to handle a situation. I guess its are age and generation that makes a difference.

i stand by weighing the situation and how you handle it ..
the jails are full of guys who feel justified but in the eyes of the law (and the jury - our peers) they were in the wrong.

lots of what ifs indeed .. but given the situation (and we werent there to judge the seriousness (it sounded like more of an annoyance the way it was presented) i would have walked the girls to their car .. (something i've done many times)

Same goes for the 10 year olds ...i'd help them get to where they were going peacefully until there was no alternative.

i never said not to get involved - with something serious ..

what HB did could have made the situation far worse if you want to look at 'what ifs'

he took what could have become a nothing situation and took it to the next level .. with kids who now had something to prove...

did they deserve to get their asses kicked - no doubt ... but i wouldnt do it unless i had no other choice at all...

point taken. I am not saying it was the right thing to do or the wrong thing to do, its kind of a gray area.

I wouldnt think of you otherwise.

Besides myself, you, Hellboy and Bloodrayne are probably the only folks I know that would put thier children ahead of everything else.

Speaking from exp. not having a father in your life is devastating. I would not wish that on my worst enemy.

Having little ones made me, sell my motorcycle, give up sky diving and alligator wrestling, rock climbing, and alcohol except for ritual purposes, and got myself in shape.

OK I made one of those up :p
