I wish I'd seen this earlier. I did a college paper on hate groups, including the Klan.

Basically, there is no one single Klan, and there hasn't been one since around the 1940's. The original Klan was established as an anti-reconstruction group after the civil war by Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest, although he tried to disband it after it went terrorist. It began as a fraternal organization but quickly became violent. The original Klan was crushed during the reconstruction period. It was resurrected around the time of World War One. They had a lot of influence with the southern Democratic party for a long time. During the early 20th century many public officials were members including police officers, state legislators and even governors. It started fading in the 30's and dissolved in the 40's. Today there are a number of small Klans. Some are pretty antagonistic towards one another.

The name Ku Klux Klan itself comes from the Greek word for circle, kyklos. The people who founded it were all college educated and knew Greek, and they liked the alliteration. They chose bizarre names like "Grand Dragon" to make the organization inscrutable to outsiders.

They are a deeply christian group(although most other christians would argue they aren't.) You can't separate Christianity from their ideology. That's not a knock against the Christian religion or anything, that's just the way it is.

anyway, a ot of the K type words = kyclops and all that shit, i read that a lot of it was more of a joke. some of the organizations would use those names and people wouldnt take em so seriously

as far as the KKK, there are different organizations. The fact that they own the name 'www.kkk.com' is irrelevant. it was just a matter of who bought it first. The one that i posted earlier, wit the rainbow, preaches something a TAD bit more different.. then say another. as in, there are others that wont even throw around this 'preserve the cultures' BS and just stirahgt up say 'yo. we rock. everyone else = suxx0rs'

my paper was specifically on Viola Liuzzo and the march on montgomery. this paper is only 4-5 pages long and it was a hell of a time figuring out which way i wanted to go. it sucked, cuz everypoint i put, i had 50 more points i wantd to bring up. LOL

i shoulda taken the honors version of the class, the paper wouldve had to be about 20 pages. i woulda fuckin love that. ah well...

christians (as a whole) haven't exactly been known as being the most tolerant group either.

kudos to you gren for actually taking the time to try and decipher thier cracker mentality.seriously,because i'm confused by the whole notion of "race mixing",last time i checked they were'nt busing any new people onto the planet.maybe they think that the finite amount of humans that populate this world can sustain some viable life on earth for say 10,000 years? and they won't even have to talk to someone who has a different skin tone,cuz that would be bad.

anyway. i started to leave and my teacher waved to me and siad 'kristin blah blah blah.' i figured she siad 'thank you' and i waved back and left

so my friend in class called me afterward. turns out she had wanted me to stick around so she could talk to me

i hated this paper (which i turned in last week). i kept changing my mind about it and i ended up turning it in totally not where i pictured it. a good paper, but not great

but she fuckin loved it. she siad something abuot i should look into journalism or whatever
