Holly Jesus!!! please foget about Dagon!!! That movie sucks. And of course , Return is the biggest Dagon's fan here. I still remember my first post talkin' about worst movies ever seen I dare to say that Dagon (in my opinion is a piece of shit) anyway if some of you loves Lovercraft boocks or just loves other autors like Poe, Bierce etc you must see this film.It was the last 'good film' from Carpenter (again in my opinion. I don't wanna fight, I'm a man of peace)

Now, I havent read a whole lot from ol' H.P., but what Ive read wouldn't translate very well to film at all. Can you imagine a movie based on the original "Dagon" story? First off, it would need to be a short film, and secondly...holy crap! Maybe in 10 years when CGI is more advanced, but there is no chance they could make that landscape look convincing. Ive been very content with the adaptions that Ive seen thusfar, in fact I consider Dagon one of my favourite films of all time. Dont belive me? Check the sig;)
agreed- HPL is virtually unfilmable - adaptable, yes - but unfilmable

Thats true, I think that the only Lovecraft's story that can be easy adapted as film it's " Herbert West the reanimator" (I don't know if that's the original name, I've traslated it from spanish)

Angra 03-11-2006 01:27 AM

I liked Dagon. Thought it was one of Stuart Gordonīs better films.

No "the". It's just "Herbert West: Reanimator". Great story, made into a great movie. Sure, it wasnt faithful at all, but it was still a great movie.

Jacob Singer 03-11-2006 02:56 AM

Thanks, the problem is that in spanish it's Herbert West: el reanimador and I directly traslated to english. I have seen the movie, not bad, no so faithful but not bad and very funy (Is from the same diretor as Dagon. Is'nt It?)

Yep, Stuart Gordon.Hes done a few other Lovecraft adaptions, too. Dagon and Re-Animator are the only ones that Ive seen though...

Jacob Singer 03-11-2006 03:03 AM

Well he did too Resonator (adaptation so bad fro story "From Beyond"), Reanimator 2 and 3....maybe he had did more but I dont know.

The_Return 03-11-2006 03:12 AM

He didnt actually direct either of the Re-Animator sequels, Brian Yuzna did. He's done a couple adaptions that havent been mentioned yet, Dreams in the Witch House for his spidode of Masters of Horror, and Castle Freak, which is credited as an adaption but Im not sure what it was adapting....

Jacob Singer 03-11-2006 03:36 AM

God I'm only right in "From Beyond". Well there's an special adaptation of "Call of Cthulhu" made by the HP Lovercraft Historical society. It is made as a film from the 20's (B/W and no sound) It's a great film...for an amateur one

Ive read about that before, sounds great. I think I might order it sometime soon, really looks like my kind of movie.

Jacob Singer 03-11-2006 03:49 AM

I've got one copy and it's great!!! They made a great work with the look of the movie (and R'lye looks great!!!). When Cthulhu appears reminds me to original Kong's film

The_Return 03-11-2006 03:55 AM

How did they manage to pull off R'Leyh? I think that's what interests me the most about the film.

Jacob Singer 03-11-2006 04:12 AM

I realy don't know but they did a great job. And of course it's a fasithful adaptation of the story

The_Return 03-11-2006 05:19 AM

So Ive heared, that's what I find intriguing. I have no idea how a film could stick to that story, I think it would have to be a huge challenge for the filmmakers. I might be coming into some exrta money next month, perhaps I'll order it...

Jacob Singer 03-11-2006 05:21 AM

great idea, and belive me it's a good movie, amateur but well done
