so when i was little little my grandma used to tell me all these scary stories about the amityville horro and how my grandpa (who was a state trooper) had to go investigate. so when i got to the appropriate horror appreciating age in my life i tried to watch it and the original was never as scary or cool as my grandma told me about. so i will probably watch this movie when someone pays for me to go see it or i have other possible horro movies to rent.

This movie looks fucking brilliant, I loved the old one, but I only have one concern...I hated the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and this is by the same director. I just hope he doesnt fuck this remake up like he did with TCM. But as far as the trailor, I think It'll be good and I'm definately seeing it.
If you care enough, check the background on it... www.amityvillehorrortruth.com |
yeah i really hated the new texas chainsaw masacre.

And you think this looks brilliant? You guys think this has nothing to do with money? |
Personaly I think this looks awsome, and I'm going to see it.
As far as the director being the same as the TCM re-make, I thought that the re-make wasn't horrible but I didn't like it how they played the film like it was a true story, the TCM story is only losely a true story. Which leads me to my next question, does anyone know if Amityville is an actual true story or is the director just playing the true story card again? I looked at the back of the box on the original Amityville and I couldn't see anything about a true story. Also could anyone tell me if the other Amityville's are any good b/c the Amityville trilogy that was just released in a box set looks interesting? I can't figure out why the fourth Amityville film is not in that box set. Thanks |
Yah, I agree with the drag-out b.s. of the TCM remake...but Amityville is based on a real "Amityville Horror", and you can check out the DeFeo case here:
www.amityvillehorrortruth.com or www.amityvillehorrormovie.com I suggest the latter of the two. As far as the trilogy, it really isn't worth it, but that's my opinon. The first Amityville was the only one I felt was a strong, well-made horror movie. But the reason the fourth isn't on there is because it was a made-for-TV movie. I have never actually seen it, but some movie rentals carry it. I can't wait...4.15.05 |
Doesn't look too bad. I personally hate remakes (except for TCM remake) and think the people who remake good movies are a-holes who can't think of anything new and orginal and just remake classics such as this. I'm just afraid they're gonna remake Friday the 13th, Exorcist, NOES, Halloween, and Shining (wait, they already remade that one.) I heard they're remaking hills have eyes & pet sematary. Those bastards!

Thanks for the info. |
I too am rather hestitant to get excited about a remake, but this has Van Wilder in it! I'm gonna go see it, no matter what, but in all likelihood, I'll be disappointed.

Does anyone think that the new Amityville Horror is gonna be screwed up?
I have a feeling that "The New" Amityville Horror is going to be screwed up by someone twisting the original storyline. On the other hand that couls be good for the story and even worse it could be VERY VERY BAD! So post ur thoughts if u have any and make sure to see the movie cuz i know i will!(even if it sux)
btw don't waste ur money on renting The Grudge cuz that sux! (Sorry if i offended anybody but those are my opinions so I can't take them back.) |
There is no way I am gonna see this remake.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzz
it was a movie i feel asleep to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzz |
I think Im gonna buy the new boxset w/ the 1st three movies, if I do Ill go to the remake [It has a free ticket], but I wont go otherwise.
|
didnt see it dont want to see it
|
There are two reasons I'm going to see this remake. 1) I loved the first one and am curious to how the remake fares up to it and 2) Van Wilder a.k.a. Ryan Reynolds is in it. ROCK ON!:D

I liked the orginale when a was young...now I dont find it scary at all...number 2 is a little better and its a prequel....
I saw a trailer of the remake and it looked like a typical american horror movie.....too fast and too much cdi.....I little like the terrible new version of "The Hauting".. |
I think the remake is going to be nice and gorey. The original didn't try to push the envelope just tell the story about a family that lived there. Studios are having it out with special effects, trying to make the coolest, cleanest looking cgi movie. Im not sure if I'll go to see it, only because its coming out when all these music festivals are going on but Im sure I'll download it if I can find a good enough copy.

it is going to be based more on the true story. which is messed up.
|
I can't stand most 70s films - they are just too cheesy and outdated. Only a few great classics really hold up.
This fact just puts me off watching the original. I'll see the remake though to see what they do with it (and it's going to be gory). |

I hadn't even heard about this until I saw a big advert on a bus going past the other day.
There was head-shaking, and some eye-rolling. |
Haven't seen it yet but it's certainly on my must-see list

there are movies that get remade for reasons i can understand ..
- technology is so advanced today that some films can benefit from better FX - the film is made by a big fan of the origional who wants to pay 'homage' - the film was poorly made the 1st time and someone saw how to breath some life into it. - reintroduce a classic to a new generation of movie gowers. all that said, i dont know what the impetus was for remaking this movie .. It looks like a pedestrian remake of a pedestrian film...about a 'true story' utterly pointless to me. |

...but even if a director is a big fan of the old one ...it still can suck... |
Not expecting much from it, but I just bought that new boxset, and it has a free ticket to see this new one. Ill check it out, might be half decent....

the Amityville horror
I just saw this movie. I think it was pretty good, BUT... it's hard to compare to the original. I say they were both pretty good. I found this one a bit too far farfetched. It seemed like a completely different movie and story somehow. I liked this one a lot though, i think you all should see it. OH, and Ryan Reynolds did amazing.
