And tasteless.

Must not be talking about Sam Adams or Redhook. Those are both excellent beers.

i had a sam adams years ago during a visit to washington .. and was impressed by it.

i had one years later and it didnt seem as good....

filmmaker2 03-16-2005 07:55 AM

You know which American beer I really like? And it sounds crazy, because it's such a common cheap beer. Miller. Plain old ordinary Miller High Life, I find it has a snappy flavor, very upbeat. Miller Ice and Miller Genuine Draft are both crap. They're bitter and weird, like someone at the brewery was trying too hard that day or squeezing the hops too long. Just the regular old, Plain Jane Miller.

If I have to drink something from somewhere else, it's Guiness Stout all the way. Reminds me of coffee, except for the you're on the floor part.

AUSTIN316426808 03-16-2005 07:57 AM

Miller:(

Budweiser:D

newb 03-16-2005 08:07 AM

America has some great beers.I'm not talking about mass produced beers like Budweiser or Miller. The aforementioned Sam Adams being one, Long Trail Brewery being another.......perhaps something from the Stone Brewing Co, maybe a nice strong Arrogant Bastard or if your in the mood, a hoppy DogFish Head brew.

Vodstok 03-16-2005 08:09 AM

Microbrew is the future of American beer.

Some suck, but god bless them for trying.

ItsAlive75 03-16-2005 08:14 AM

My uncle works for Coors so I like Coors Light.

It might not taste good, but DAMMIT I have an obligation!:D

Damn straight. But I think its kind of an age thing. When I was younger I would never try a micro-brew. Granted...they weren't as prevalent as they are now, but my son-in-law ,who's 26, won't go near them.

filmmaker2 03-16-2005 08:16 AM

I had a pumpkin microbrew once and I thought it was great, bought some for my friends and we had a nice little Halloween party. It was bitter in the right way, and just a little sweet.

Thats one of my favorite seasonal beers. Sam Adams has a very nice Octoberfest.

Vodstok 03-16-2005 08:22 AM

Shipyard is a microbrew around these parts, and thery have a pumpkin ale they make every year for halloween. Cool bottle, but it is pumpkin spice flavored malt liquor. Imagine Zima flavored with pumpkin pie mix. it is fucking terrible.

Newb... Godamn kids dont respect a damn thing, do they? :)

I had never tried any before the Redhook brewery moved into town, but once they did, my world changed. Before that, all i would drink was Sam or foreign beer (tons of Bass, Guiness, Corona and the occasional Boddingtons)

Pabst Blue Ribbon

AWFUL shit. I had soem from a keg once and it was the worst beer i had ever tasted. Not canned, not bottled, but from a KEG! and it was simlply disgusting.

ShankS 03-16-2005 08:33 AM

you can't beat a good old pint of...

urgeok 03-16-2005 08:33 AM

you know how if you are drunk, you can drink anything ?

i could be ready to pass out but if you gave me a labatts blue, or a black label ice .. i'd hurl from the taste

Vodstok 03-16-2005 08:34 AM

Same here. Bad beer is bad beer, no matter how much good beer you had just before.

thats why I've cut out spirits completely now. good beer is ment to be enjoyed and savoured slowly, so I know I wont have too much.

ChEEbA 03-16-2005 08:39 AM

If y'all want some real beer, just swing by sometime.

Not true, I once drank around 6 or 7 Linenkugel's without so much as a twitch. And THAT shit tastes like an open asshole.

Vodstok 03-16-2005 08:41 AM

I am a Foster's fan. In fact, i had some last night :)

ShankS 03-16-2005 08:44 AM

not had Fosters or Castlemaine for years now.

ChEEbA 03-16-2005 08:44 AM

It's amazing...with all our GOOD beer, what actually gets exported.
If you like that one, I can think of about 20 that exceed it by FAR in quality, most from smaller breweries...there's a nice little place that brews it's own, and carries most of the nicer brands.

Our best commercial brand would definately be "coopers", if EVER you get the chance, try THAT.

Vodstok 03-16-2005 08:46 AM

Well, with all of the good german beer there is, all we get here is Becks....

Other countries have a track record of sending nothing but shit to America.

ChEEbA 03-16-2005 08:48 AM

I guess that doesn't say much about how the standard of US beer is perceived by the outside world, eh?

I don't mind Coors...but I'm suee there's much better stuff from your independant regional breweries.

Coopers, coincidentally, is the official beer of household cats.

Vodstok 03-16-2005 08:49 AM

Pretty much. Big American companies tend to churn out garbage. Not just in beer...

I think I remember you recommending coopers a while ago, I will deffo have to look for some. One I've had is Victoria Bitter, that was nice.

My older brother is a beer genius. I didn't get that ability. I don't, typically like beer. The only kind I've found that I like is various German beers.

I've had fun reading about all the different beers. Thanks, you guys:) . Way to turn this thread from trite shite, to an educational experience.:D

Vodstok 03-16-2005 09:52 AM
