^best post so far in this thread. had me laughing out loud. I think it's the "hip hop hooray" at the end that really got me.

my vote is for The Wicker Man.

SPOILERS

The very best surprise ending to a horror movie is the original Night of the Living Dead. 100% surprising the first time you see it. The poor guy survives the night from hell (literally) and then as the army sweeps in to save the day, they mistake him for a zombie and shoot him in the head.

Other endings I really liked are...

Memento - (The more you watch this movie, the more layers to the plot you realize exist. Awesome film! Wonderfully creative direction!)
The Usual Suspects (Keyser Soze. 'Nuff said!)
Donnie Darko (Huh? Like Memento, I delve deeper and deeper into the plot every time I watch this one.)
Se7en (This ending just kicks ass. Plain and simple.)
The Sixth Sense (I didn't know he was dead until the very end the first time I saw it.)
Fight Club (One of the most fucked up endings in years.
Confidence (You know there's going to be a lot of twists, but it's impossible to figure it out.)
Psycho II (Yeah I said it! Psycho II. If you haven't seen it, go watch the first one and then watch the second one. The ending of this was SO COOL that I really dont want to give it away to anyone that hasnt seen it. If you have similar taste in what endings you like, then I think you will like this one... Just trust me, but make sure you have the first Psycho fresh in your memory before watching it.)

As for the other movies mentioned in this thread...

I wasn't crazy about Saw. It looked AWESOME from the trailers, but I was disappointed. Very cool concept but I dont think they pulled it off very well.... The blond guy was a shitty actor and the multiple 'twists' at the end made the whole movie seem to not make any sense.

I thought The Ring was one of the most over rated movies in the last decade. (Right there with Blair Witch.) It had potential and then I thought the last 25 minutes were just terrible. I knew there would be a sequel because the first one didn't answer any of the questions it raised which was why I thought it sucked in the first place. I won't be seeing Ring 2.

Identity was very predictible in the aspect that it was going to be multiple personalities, but which one won out was a nice final twist at the very end.

Never saw Henry but now I want to. That sounds cool.

slasherman 03-19-2005 11:37 AM

"Spoiler"
I also like the the nice twist ending in "Angel Heart"...when he finds out his controled by the devil

The_Return 03-19-2005 11:45 AM

Bride of the Monster...I was laughing my ass off when the [spoiler] octopus blew up, then we saw footage a a nuclear mushroom cloud...with our heroes standing about 10 feet from this explosion. Freakin hilarious

Mothan Prophecies had a damn good one, too.

Amen with Blair Wich...alothough the rest of the movie sucked.

kung-fu-jesus 03-19-2005 12:51 PM

black christmas, its perfect. you dont know why the killings occured or even who did them

also i liked frality, saw,the ring( american), cabin fever, jeepers creapers 2, and se7en

.

Overrated ? Maybe you have to study filmhistory....because "RIngu" started a new movement....the japanese ghost wave...and the americans tries to copy....
and "The Ring" is a nice remake of a CLASSIC

ClassicHorror 03-21-2005 04:59 AM

The best ending to any horror film is Dead Alive, its avious why, if you've seen the movie.

As for JokerMONEY......are you 12?

EXTR3MIST 03-21-2005 12:11 PM

I'm 6, and wanna see some puppies.

The Mothman 03-21-2005 12:15 PM

The ending of Jason Goes To Hell kicked ass. the whole bood-soaked last 15 minutes.

Palmer 03-21-2005 04:07 PM

Ummm Saw was ok ....but what was so stoopid is The Fucking jigsaw guy had lungcancer How the Fuck did He not cough one fucking time.....or even a lil struggle to take a breath......O my god they got that by alot of people but not me....

kung-fu-jesus 03-22-2005 08:39 AM

he didnt have lung cancer. he had an advanced form of cancer that came from colin cancer.

babygirl20 03-22-2005 08:43 AM

To many best endings to name. But to me the movie that had the worst ending was The Butterfly Effect, I loved the fuckin movie till the very end! :(

kung-fu-jesus 03-22-2005 08:46 AM

which ending, there was like 10( 5 were basicly the same). also you might have scene the directors cut where he wrights himself out of existince, that one really sucked.

The theatrical cut and the directors cut both sucked. I didn't like the ending to the theatrical cut because I wish he had of stopped her and talked to her and they could have started their relationship over new. Bummer :(

kung-fu-jesus 03-22-2005 09:03 AM

that would a of been cool, but if they did that it would raise a hole new shit storm.

First off, I didn't say word one about 'Ringu'. That was okay. (Far from a classic, but okay.)

Of course Hollywood tries to copy it, that's what they do to anything that has made money. Just like Ju-On to The Grudge, the American counterpart is about 4 notches below it's Japanese original.

Remakes in general piss me off, but this one really did and it was mainly because all I heard from anyone who saw it was that it was sooooo scary. Fuck that. The Ring wasn't scary at all. In fact, it was really fucking stupid in my opinion. The villain sucked (Ooohhh, some little girl stuck in a well somehow got on to a tape that scares people to death... Really scary... ), the acting sucked, the director tried to give it the Jap horror feel and failed, and on top of that, the end of the movie didn't even tie up all the loose ends.

The Ring = 1 suck ass movie.

kung-fu-jesus 03-22-2005 02:34 PM

true, i couldnt have typed it better my self.

as for great ending, i thought the way scream ended was pretty fucking good.

none of it would have happened if he went back and never kissed the Amy Smart

kung-fu-jesus 03-22-2005 02:54 PM

wrong, he and the girl would have still made the movie.
also they would of still killed the bitch who checked the mail.

i'm talking about the prison part

if he never kissed the girl
tommy wouldn't have killed the dog
if tommy didn't kill the dog he wouldn't go to juvie
if tommy didn't go to juvie he wouldn't try to get revenge on Ashton
if he didn't try to get revenge on Ashton he would not have been killed
if he hadn't have been killed Ashton wouldn't go to jail

nothing could be done to stop the mailbox

kung-fu-jesus 03-22-2005 05:37 PM

without the kiss, the movie would of been just as it was in the begining before amys character comited suicide.

Gotta point, I must say. Still wish it could have ended better. Still love the movie though! :)

A movie made in 1998 is not a classic.

I can not decipher this. What does that mean?

If it means shitty movies can make money, then yes, I agree wholeheartedly. They can and do all the time.

If it means something else, then I have no idea what you are trying to say.

crazy raplh 03-27-2005 05:14 PM

the best ending was in a nightmare in elm street.

AUSTIN316426808 03-27-2005 05:17 PM
