what did they have in common?
i was too bored to pay attention:confused:

MrShape 12-01-2004 09:38 PM

I liked The Grudge. So fuck you guys.

Vodstok 12-02-2004 05:19 AM

To each his own....

arent you going to kiss us first? :D

Tachii, here is the similarity:

Evil beast is a scraggly haired dead chick in shabby clothing. both have a "scary" scene where they show off a single eye through matted hair. Oh yeah, and its "a curse that will get you anywhere, no matter what"

urgeok 12-02-2004 05:45 AM

i'd still go see it ... tastes vary and i might find something i like that hits my buttons.

i sat through res evil 2, i sat through the village, i bought used and watched both cold creek manor and the godsend ...

how bad could it be ?

Vodstok 12-02-2004 05:47 AM

Bad.....

Montage_Man 12-06-2004 05:19 AM

Anyone seen the original Grudge??

I just want to know if its as bad as the terrible remake. And whether or not to watch it.

ichi the killer 12-06-2004 05:28 AM

I thought original Grudge 1 & 2 were excellent, hav nt seen remake so can t compare. All matter of taste i hated the remake of Ringu.

what do you mean as bad??? they were here first... they're much better, it's the damn Yanks :D influencing Takashi Shimizu into making a Yankyfied version.

ichi the killer 12-06-2004 11:49 AM

Could nt agree more.

*note to self Remakes come after the original* That is good to know.

The STE 12-07-2004 02:55 PM

which "original?" There's the one that was theatrically released in Japan, it has a commercial DVD release here (US) now. But there was also the TV-movie that was in Japan. You can get it on Ebay if you're in the states, I don't know how wide a release it got on DVD outside Japan. From what I hear, the TV-movie is far better

jay o2 waster 12-07-2004 06:39 PM

not that great imo

HorrorJunkie17 12-08-2004 03:51 PM

I've seen the original Grudge (which is titled Ju-On.) and I have to say that the remake is far better as far as "jump" scences and gore, while the original, in a way, explains the plot of the story a whole lot better. All in all though I liked the remake better.

horror_master 12-22-2004 08:28 AM

I have seen the japense version and the american version. The Isay thier both kinda similar in freakyness

Shade 12-22-2004 06:14 PM

They're both about the same, both good. The American one is really the same...save for a large buget...and Americans of course >.>;;.

urgeok 12-23-2004 05:27 AM

i saw the origional Grundge.

I think it was pre-Nirvana. But definately from Seattle.

Or maybe Minniapolos.. home to not only Prince, but also Soul Asylum. They were pretty Grundgy. (before Pirner started seeing Winona Ryder and the band went 'pussy'

ahhh how i miss the origional Grundge days.

newb 12-23-2004 05:30 AM

I still put on Grave Dancers Union every once in a while.

The original Godfather of Grunge...Neil Young.

in a fashion sense .. most definately.

if you want to check out Soul Asylum when they were good, get Clam Dip and Other Favorites (the one with the mock up 'herb alperta and the Tijuana bras : whipped cream and other delights' cover)

or Hang Time

so you added your own 'cream whip and other delights' and made it into a 3d cover ?

nine9 12-23-2004 07:07 AM

I saw both, the American version first. I thought the American one was good...but the original was great! I liked the way it was put together better, and I thought it explained more.

Vodstok 12-23-2004 07:18 AM

uh oh..... Nine and urge.. its a canadian clash!

why dont you two have some gravy fries and a molson and talk it over.

Urge, its okay that you want to usurp threads and make them your own. We know you have issues.

Nine, please, when someone derails a topic, please dont bring it back to the original subject. it gets them fired up

:D

Ju-On: Review!

I watched this movie last night and I wasnt expecting much. However, I was surprised by it. The movie builds a lot of suspense and the plot works very well. I heard people compare this movie to the Grudge and kill Ju-On because the special effects cant compare. But I think the spooky lil boy who looked like he had played with a bottle of baby powder was still frightening compared to any of today's special effects. As well as the lady crawling down the stairs. And by the way, the sound effects in this movie is phenomenal and uses it very well. I highly recommend it and I already put The Grudge (American version) and Ju-On 2 on my rental list. Im hearing bad thing about Ju-On 2 because its like a summarization of part 1. What Ju-On movies should I definetly see? I know of 5 of em so far. probably more.

Vodstok 02-01-2005 10:09 AM

I havent seen any of the japanese originals, but the Grudge was a huge disappointment.

No, only 5 so far until Shimizu makes his second american Grudge movie. But if you have seen Ju-on, I will recomend Ju-on the grudge & especially Ju-on the grudge 2. Itīs the most entertaining and with the biggest budget. I havnīt seen The american The Grudge, so i canīt recomend it yet.

BH14 02-01-2005 02:14 PM

i rented ju-on from library... it says Ju-On on the cover. i went on different message board and found out that the movie i saw is probably the Ju-On Grudge. It begins with social worker entering the house and finding the old lady in the messed up house. nevertheless, it was good.

urgeok 02-22-2005 08:31 AM

dug up this dusty old thread because i finally saw The Grudge and I'm still marvelling over how good i thought it was.

I didnt find it in the least bit confusing at all ... it just kept going back in time to explain 'what happened to the last guy'

my wife was hanging from the ceiling half the movie - completely scared the shit out of her ... and i have to admit, after seeing Ju-on, it wasnt like i didnt know what was coming - but i jumped about 3 times just the same ..

I never jump at movies.

To me - i would have assumed that this movie would be every horror lovers dream ... tons of scares and the creepiest atmosphere in any movie in a long time...

I was impressed !

BH14 02-22-2005 08:56 AM

I saw Ju-On before this movie so I kinda knew what to expect. Nevertheless, i still found it spooky in situations and would even give it a nod over Ju-On. I have Ju-On in my collection and would probably add this movie to it later on.. Thumbs up!

not a chance ! I cant believe you didnt like it !

when i think of all the other bullshit out there that passes for horror .... this was definately a bright spot for me.
I had it for ages - couldnt get excited to see it because of the bad press it was getting in here ... i was really suprised at the quality of the film.

i'd rather see an unknown in place of SMG's character but it wasnt that distracting.

hellfire1 02-22-2005 10:25 AM

the grugde... ugh...

i watched alien last night and was 10 times more creeped out than with this... but yeah, to each his/her own.
