Have you ever seen the movie Papillon? Its better then all 3 of the LOTR but that hasn't won best picture...Dead Alive is an indy film so it couldn't have won it.

Exactly...it doesn't take "I don't know how many hours" to have good time, its a film that can deliver the goods thats "good". LOTR delivered a bunch of CGI and boring sobs. Sorry I just don't like these films, I think they are overrated.
I grew up reading the Tolkien books like the Hobbit the 3 LOTR books and the Silmarillion. Watching what Peter Jackson made on film is darn right awesome like watching a book come to life. Classic I get the feeling that you just dont like CGI at all. The best CGI movies are the ones that you cant tell CGI was used. Its funny back in the 1920s and 1930s when Stopmotion was 1st being used here in the USA some people did not like it others loved it and it was the CGI of its day. I am betting maybe 30 years from now some new special effect will come along and fans will say I hate this and they will talk about the old movies that were good that had CGI lol. The more things change the more they stay the same.
Don't get my wrong I love LOTR but it seems WIZ OF OZ just delivers. I agree the best CGI is the one where you are like.....oh they used CGI for that??
I love the HULK as a fan and as a movie and him being major CGI I thought they did an excellent job. |
Ever notice that the best film makers today still incorperate stopmotion in their movies and as far as CGi they only use what they need they dont rely on CGI for the whole movie. Speaking of the WIZ OF OZ ever see the original in 1927 or 1929 man that movie is grat to watch but in 10 year the remake in 1939 was awesome.
No,Gojira, I never have seen it, I'll have to check it out.
This whole time I thought the remake WAS the original. THe 1939 is my fave movie of all time. People are like WHAT expecting me, as a 17 year old to like some movie like Bad Boys or something new and I'm like no i grew up on WIZ OF OZ I LOVE IT :). I love movies that don't rely TOO much on CGI. Like alot of new movies. OR sci-fi channel movies. Those movies SUCK bad. I hate movies nowadays, they make good movies into shit. Like the movie Phantoms, Fantastic book, they make a movie and screw it up. Or how about alone in the dark. They made a video game and it was old fashioned. The movie is coming out and it's all high tech special operatives that fight underground monsters. I mean seriously Same with Resident Evil. They make a Great game in a mansion. They make a high tech movie and it sucked. I loved the 2nd one, tied into game elements very well. |
Wizard 39 is not a remake, its an adaption. A remake is made from another film. An adpation is made from a book.
Well I am sure both WIZ OF OZ movies in the 20s & 30s were both based on the book so remake might still apply. Because the movie was remade a 2nd time hence remake
Its like saying Horror of Dracula is a remake of Bela's Dracula, it just isn't.
LOL Classic your cracking me up Hammer in 1958 made a a Dracula movie with Cushing and Lee titled Dracula. When the movie came to America the movie poster was retitled Horror of Dracula Hammer did this as not to have fans confused with the 1931 Lugosi movie. Btw it was a remake Hammer bought the rights of Dracula from Universal along with frankenstien Mummy Wolfman Phantom Hunchback. Universal was hurting for money so Hammer bought the rights of several of Universals horror movie characters in 1958 Hammer remade Dracula and advertised it as horror of Dracula in the USA.
OK. What about Bram Stoker's Dracula and Bela's Dracula?
Wizard 39 is kickass.
Margeret Hamilton(wicked witch of the west) was from Akron,Ohio. Like 5-10 mins from where I live :) |
Classic the 1992 Bram Stokers Dracula of course is a remake hell Count Dracula with Bela Lugosi was a Dracula remake in 1931. The very 1st Dracula movie was made in Russia in 1920. The 1st remake was made in Hungry in 1921 titled Drakula with Paul Askonas as Dracula. Then in Germany Prana studios wanted to make a Dracula movie but Florence Stoker Bram Stokers widdow threatend to sue if Prana did not change the title of the movie so they did to Nosferatu. Nosferatu was an almost Dracula movie. Then 9 years later Universal bought the rights of Dracula from Florence Stoker and then remade Dracula. All Dracula movie after 1920 are remakes. IMO the best Dracula remakes are Horror of Dracula 1958 and Bram Stokers Dracula in 1992.
alrighty, did you know that the new Phantom isn't a remake? Its based on a Andy Lloyd Webber musical.
That was mind boggling, which was/wasnt a remake of what...I think I figured it out though:p
Im very split on the subject of remakes. Some are complete shit, but on the other hand. my favourite horror movie of all time is a remake [House on Haunted Hill] I think two remakes currently in the works are travestys. The Fog, and The Tingler. Why, why, why are people so damn money hungry! I personally think the Suspria remake could be good, not sure... |
I loved the original Fog, this one may be good....but knowing these directors nowadays it is going to suck......bad.
This is how I feel about remakes if there were no remakes movies like Dracula 1931 Lugosi and 1931 Frankenstien and 1932 Mummy movies would not exist. Some remakes are so good some fans think they are the originals. Some remakes arnt so good so you just have to see which movies you like.
50 remakes in 5 years is different from a couple in 10 years.
Which remakes are you talking about? There are alwaysremaking something.
Do you have any idea how many remakes of horror films are planned to be made in the next 5 years?
I dont think anybody knows how many horror movies the world over will be planned or made in the next 5 years. alot of planned movies get axed before production even starts. There are some studios that will contract to make an entire series about a character. But those are rare cases and are only done because the studio knows at the end of so many years and so many movies the series will have made a large profit for the studio.
The TCM remake was nothing I hated it. The original reigns superb for me.
The remake was good. ah TCM never reigned superb anyway. it was a good movie but seriously.
The 70's TCM is one of the best horror films of all time. After seeing as many movies as I have seen. TCM Remake looks like crap.
LOL guys I am telling you I saw TCM in 1974 and there is nothing really good about it. There is no great Chainsaw Massacre just a guy who makes motions like he is cutting but he isnt. That you can see. He does kill Franklin outside and runs after the girl then he cuts his leg by accident. The movie is just about a family of wackos. I was happy when the movie ended. Now the TCM remake I have yet to see but I hope there are at least real blood and guts massacre scenes so I dont feel jipped.
Blood and Guts isn't everything, who cares about titles.
Let me tell you my thoughts. TCM holds the title for being one of the most maddest, and most chaotic films that hits that silver screen we praise so much, it hits the nerves, and oh boy it sure does deliver that spine tingling pain. The music is normal sounds you hear everyday, radiators, and sutff like that. Leatherface swinging his chainsaw around is one of the most memorable scenes in film history. That dinner scene was so mindblowing. It shows the madness, the eyes, the way these people live makes you think...the world is full of these people. The whole film was a jounrey into the mind of a tormented being. It shows you the more darker aspects of the horror film, the more mental apsects, the ones that are buried deep inside your skull. The ones which haunt you like hell. This film is so advanced of its time. The Texas Chainsaw Massacew fits the bill perfectly. It was a massacre....people getting hit with hammers over the head making their bodies shake from side to side uncontrolably, a girl is put on a hook while still alive later being thrown into a freezer. A guy in a wheelchair gets sliced from the front. A women barely survives by flinging herself on the back of a truck. Hitchhiker gets run over by a truck, the chainsaw you hear buzzing off into the sunset as the sun slowly drifts off, the last thing you hear is this poor human being's screams of horror as she see's in front of her something that you cannot possibly imagine on your own. That sun with those sounds of chainsaws cannot be repeated because it was put in such an exact place that I cannot explain. |
Oh I agree blod and guts arn't everything.
Im just saying while it was a great movie and it was freakish and scary to think like that. It is not one of the BEST horror movies ever. It is close but the best. It just could have done alot more. It was freaky though and I love it but people give it more than enough credit it needs. |
To me it will always be one of the greatest horror films of all time...........
Also I want you to state your opinions on why its not, I stated mine, I want to hear yours.
you know what your right
i love TCM and im an idiot haha yes it is one of the best and forgive me for my stupididty. |
Don't worry, you gotta think of the film without all the hype about it, you gotta see it open minded.
I'm glad you changed your mind. |
Yeah I never thought about that.
I'm glad i changed my mind too :) |
I dont know I guess when I was 13 years old and I saw TCM at the Drive in I expected something more. I felt jipped bigtime ans scenes at the dinner table with Sally big deal I understand what the director was aiming for but at the time back in 1974 TCM did not rake in the money and most who saw it thought it sucked and thought the title was misleading and it was. Dr.Phibes in 1971 had more gore and better death scenes than TCM. Btw any of you ever see the Grusome Twosome it was made before TCM.
Well Gojira, The director Tobe Hooper is known for realistic horror, Eaten Alive who is based on the true story of Jim Ball who fed his girlfriends to alligators he had in his basement. And TCM which is based on Ed Gein. Psycho, and Silence of The Lambs is also based on Ed Gein. He also directed Poltergeist, Saloms Lot, and The Funhouse. He is known as one of the greatest horror directors. Unfortunately Gojira I did not see that movie.
Hi Classic you forgot to mention that Michael Myers character is also based on Ed guin. I will tell you what cracks me up is when people say that TCM really happened LOL LOL hell I have lived in Texas for 43 almost 44 years and believe me TCM never happened. Ed guin was just a sicko from another state Ed only killed 2 people and any serial killer is alot worse then Ed was. But the TCM makes for a good movie story. Some people will belive anything lol poor saps. Most of the good horror movies are based on real events or inspired by people who lived. Vlad the Impailer of course was Bram Stokers inspiration for his novel Dracula and Robert Lewis Stevenson based his Character Dr.Jekyll on a carpenter who was leading a double life. Ed Guin of course served as inspiration for a few characters.
Sorry Gojira but Myers wasn't based on "Gein" I am pretty sure he was based on someone else. He had necrophilia with dead bodies (sex), killed 3 people, he was a cannibal, and exhumed peoples graves. Jeffrey Dahmer on the other hand did that, and alot worse.
I also hate it when people say that TCM was real. Grrrrr. |
Yeah Myers wasn't based off of anybody besides prolly psycho which Carpernter loved.
YEAH Gein killed women in WISCONSIN plainfield wisconsin. |
It shouldn't say "Based On A True Story" on the remake cover, it should say "Inspired By A True Story". Michael Bay can suck my balls.
You know here in Texas TCM is a joke because it never happened and for some odd reason there are people who will say stuf like My father was around when TCM happened or My brother new Sally LOL we just crack up when we hear stuff like that. Thats not to say bad things dont happen in texas a few years ago there was a guy who was babysitting 2 kids and a baby. The guy killed the mother when she came home and he burnt the kids and killed thei dog then he killed himself. He hacked the bodys up.
