you heard him in halloween ( 2007 ) he thinks that he's ugly and doesent want anybody seing him possibly? but then again Rob Zombie messed up the Halloween series by making the second film which was so bad and dumb its unbelievable.

I'm pretty sure it's down to the Ugly thing in the remake. The original? I have no idea.

The obvious outside reason, is it to show a lack of remorse from the character, Carpenter wanted a normal face, nothing OTT like other masks of horror characters, just a blank expression that separates him from the audience but also at the same time makes him seem somewhat life like! It's the whole 'shape' thing as he was written before filming.

Psychology 101

Michael Myers has a splintered personality resulting from the tragedies he suffered at a young age. Therefore he wears the mask to represent his dark personality on the surface.

that sounds more like the rob zombie version...which i hated.

oh well, different strokes for different folks

I think it was true in the first set of movies also, however the inner turmoil was more likely created by the Thorn curse in the originals.

No doubt. That would take the mystery out of a lot of horror flicks.

Michael Myers wore a mask because he was ugly as hell. Well classic child Michael Myers looked normal, I guess he was just infatuated with hiding his own identity from the age of 6? Who knows?

John Carpenter's "Halloween" (1978); Michael Myers as a Child.

What a freak. Nuff said. >_>;;

A bigger question is why can he survive being shot, several times, suffering all kinds of abuse and then falling out the window but still getting up and walking away? And that is just in the first movie!

My guess is that Michael knows he would not be half as scary without the mask. As for why the filmmakers did it, this about it this way. A movie with a killer running around is a thriller, put a creepy mask on him and it is a horror movie, end of story, masks are scary.

Well, without watching Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007), my guess is that he wears that old mask because he is very self concience about his physical appearence. Also, hiding his identity.
