Nope, companys *usually retail, and food service related* hire these people, give them a list of things to buy etc. and what to expect out of the employees, questions to ask, etc.

When the employee performs as they should, they are rewarded. With them not knowing who the mystery shopper is they tend to be nice to all customers.

When the employee fails, they are informed on how they can improve.
