On a side note, looking for some stuff of Sartin and I stumbled across this. It is brilliant. Conspiracy theory nuts are always funny, but this takes the cake. This person has managed to link Sartin's shooting with just about every other murder of the time. They do the typical thing of looking at dates and other numbers and putting them together to show how it was all some scheme (One murder -which was nothing to do with Sartin - happened on the 111th day of a leap year. Years before, Sartin's girlfriend's school friend was found dead. Her birthday was the 11-1) It's brilliant.
They go on to suggest that the government were involved in brainwashing him as a child. That there's an ex-coldwar underground base near his home where he was conditioned and that the Halloween films acted as a trigger. This has made my day! :D |

When I was a kid he was a Sports presenter. I remember when he went on Wogan claiming to be the son of god. That was a shocker. I really can't remember there being a huge outcry when Venables/Thompson were released. I remember more stories about injunctions protecting their identity. (I do have some of the newpaper articles that I used for my papers I think)y I wrote a paper on Horror films as a scapegoat in ‘media moral panics’. Theres prolly some usefull stuff in it and a good list of books/Journals/Articles.. PM me an email addy and I can send it to you. The work experience has finished now, but with you guys' help I got a pretty comprehensive list which I passed up to the boss. They're going to then polish it off and present the idea of the show to a channel (probably BBC 2). Whilst it might never even get picked up, the people at the studio told me they'd keep me updated. If anything does happen with it (it'll be some time before it does, if it does), I'll be sure to tell you all! Thanks :)
I just found it such an interesting topic to look into, even if I don't necessarily agree with the idea that movies can make killers! (I think Billy's quote in Scream sums it up). What particularly got to me was when the research led me to Columbine (they say the boys MIGHT have been watching some films beforehand - too loose of a link for me to include it, but meh). Either way, when I actually looked into what happened - I'm sure you all know, but as I was only 5-6 at the time, I was unaware -but it was just so intense. Reading through bit by bit what happened felt like I was reading the plot of a horror/thriller film. |
Although I'm extremely late on the posting train for this thread, I just wanted to put it down that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (the Columbine killers) were very inspired by the film Natural Born Killers (1994, Oliver Stone). So much so, in fact, that they named the shooting NBK continuously in their journals.
