Kerrang reader most have really changed considering there is no mention of Motorhead or Slayer.

Well, lets examine the wording; 'most influential'. Metallica were the only metal band that were Grunge proof, so I'd say worthy winners. Constantly setting the bench mark for heavy music.
Green Day, technically a punk band but responsible for spawning clone after clone after clone.
Iron Maiden & Slipknot, absolutely. At stages over the last 30 years they've been the top of the metal heap.

The rest are an absolute joke. My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and Bullet... are clearly only there because the current teen readership misunderstood the question. I'd strongly debate their substance.

Without going into detail, I'll offer three undoubtably better, more obvious selections: Slayer, Guns n Roses and Faith No More. And if you're allowing punk music then Nirvana should be second in terms of influence.

I would've endorsed Black Sabbath but I think they're pre 30 years ago. AC DC, you betcha. Blink, Ozzy, Foos? No way! QOTSA and in particular Josh Homme are way ahead.

I don't think Metallica can be too smug about topping a list that contains the crimes against music of My Chemical Romance and Linkin Park.

Put in Nirvana, Skunk Anansie and Placebo or many other acts that are no less metal than Foofighters

You may as well swap those two for 2 Unlimited and NKOTB:D

What a fucking rubbish list.

Metallica and Iron Maiden were influential but stopped putting out good albums after 1988. Metallica are more influential these days in showing people what NOT TO DO if you're in a band.

The majority of modern extreme metal is influenced by Slayer... why they aren't on that list is just pure ignorance.

No mention of Black Metal?

Like most of the long standing music mags Kerrang is joke and this list just enforces that fact.

Metallica I agree with to a point, though I don't mind their efforts up to the early 90's. They lack consistancy and yeah they've definitely taken a huge nose-dive.
They *could* probably be credited with being an entry point into a certain type of rock for people to be fair...and they did have some GREAT songs...but yeah "did" truly applies here.
Number 1 spot? Not at all.

02 � Green Day
Disagree. It's whiny sounding. No kind of profound lyrics (not that this is essential) and these days if I hear it, I'll change the station.
They had their heyday, but really to me they're just another pop-rock band that kind of got popular.
If you're mentioning shit like this, I'd have thrown up The Offspring into a much higher position, or say RHCP - both would be more at home on this list, though I don't think either of THOSE would make the top 10.

I can get behind this one.

04 � Slipknot
Nope. I mean, they could have been better, they just never were.

05 � My Chemical Romance
...Wouldn't call it a rock group...

06 � Linkin Park
Nope, not at all. One of the whiniest bands I've ever heard.
I'm all for fusion, as I find it interesting but this doesn't mean it's going to be anywhere near prolific. Also can't stand the lyricist, "cat being strangled" actually applies when I think of him.

07 � Bullet For My Valentine

08 � Blink 182
Another 90's pop rock group. I actually liked the first song I heard from them "Dammit", (even though I thought it kind of borrowed a lot of style from the mighty mighty bosstones) I dunno, perhaps it appealed to my teen angst?
But then, nothing else they ever did even sounded LIKE this song...they just became IMO a comedy band trying to nip the heels of the bloodhound gang.

09 � Ozzy Osbourne
Him but not Black Sabbath? What?

10 � Foo Fighters
Hit and miss for me...I like some songs, I hate others...they're an ok band, and I don't have anything too negative to say about them...I'd be interested in hearing what they sounded like if they weren't trying to appeal to such a wide audience.
That said for this band to make the top 10, is ridiculous.

If it's influential, where's Social Distortion? So many bands try and fail to sound like them. Bahaus? TALKING HEADS?

I would guess that Blink 182 actually is inspired by Green Day. So they should be scratched from the list, coz all the bands inspired by Blink 182 would also be influinced by Green Day. Know what i'm sayin?

I's the same thing with Iron Maiden. The new Powermetal bands that sees the light of day are most likely bands influenced by bands that are influenced by Iron Maiden.
