God, I hate hate hate Lovecraftian films for the most part. The man was a great author but the movie variations suck (for lack of a better word).

But I am looking forward to the new Mountains of Madness movie.

Have you see the HPLS Call of Cthulhu - a very faitful adaption. If not you should track it down..But for the most part you are right - when the creature is indescribable and whose very sight will for force you to hide in the comfort of insanity then showing them on screen is bound to be a bit of a let down.
