It's difficult, but overall I'd have to say Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It didn't rely on "jump" scenes or the dark or a manipulative soundtrack... instead it was simple, minimilistic, and highly disturbing in the fact that this *could* happen (versus the immortal killer, possessed doll, ect...).
I wouldn't go quite so far as to say it's my absolute #1 favorite, but it's pretty much got all the ingredients of what I would truly consider "horrific". |
Exorcist hands down.... what the hell is not scarey about seein your kid walk down the steps upside down on all fours. And as bad as pea soup is, to make it look that good is priceless
