But yeah, generally speaking they are by birth year, however within the last 10--it's been kind of sketchy because some characteristics just like traditional zodiac overlap so for some people, you have to get it down to the birthdate and moon signs. Generally though, it works by birth year.

I guess that justifies that nothing is completely absolute. Because there are those rare times where you could be a certain zodiac but may lack a traditional characteristic of that sign. It doesn't mean you aren't that sign--you still are, but are a unique one. For instance, A cancer that's born in the morning may not act exactly like the one who's born at night. Sagittarius people born in the beginning of the sign (Nov babies) may not act exactly like those born later (Dec babies), etc. So in some cases, very small however, every intricate part matters.
