Sorry for bumping this...but... I didnt like either Hostels or Cabin Fever, I hate how it was depicted in the media and commercials/trailers, making it sound like you were going to shit yourself through the entire movie then I saw it and was bored and pissed off.....I mean the concept was okay but damn they also depicted Europeans as being evil or some shit (only in America), and it's just stupid that they had more sex in this "horror" movie then a fucking porno

i thought Hostel was really smart - though that might have been inadvertent

Actually the Europeans weren't really the evil characters. It was actually the American characters who were "evil" or rather just cocky and arrogant. The people doing the actual torture were from various countries (including America) and were mostly rich white men. Like Zero said, the movie is smart. If you watch the director commentary he sheds some light on what he was trying to say in both films. As for all the sex, the first Hostel could have toned it down a little but overall it doesn't bother me. Nudity is a staple of many horror movies.

Yeah trailers should never hype up the film they are advertising..lol

I thought they weren't bad for what they are. The message is a little heavy handed but who cares its an exploitation movie. I never really under stood the extreme hate for this movie - even at its worst it could be considered average.

I suppose its the huge amount of hype it seems to have got and the haters feel its so undeserved.

At least no one on this thread has said 'torture porn' yet!!

I think i said that phrase on another thread:D Even after this movie got canned i still went and saw it. I liked it, it wasn't completely forgettable. As for Eli roth, you make one film thats out there then next thing you're the new hottest director. Even if some of your films are garbage i.e cabin fever

I must say that I really enjoyed the second installment of Hostel.
Not a big fan of the first one, but I thought the second was well done. The acting was believable, Roger Bart and Richard Burgi were fantastic, and just them alone made this movie memorable, IMO. The montage scene is another reason this movie is memorable, one of the better scenes made in the last year, it installed emotion, sensativity, and good visuals. SFX were impressive, Bijou's death was very well done. All in all, it was a very good horror flick from a not so good director.

I really hated Hostel II. People were talking about it being more gory and better than the first. Besides some good scenes (the woman hanging up side down being cut with some kind of axe and te heads in he closet) I really couldn't find myself in that review. I thought 1 was way more gory (awesome stuff with the eye burning, the eye cutting, the cutting of those achilles heels etc), the atmosphere in 1 was way better as well. I though the second part was a softer, more "American" version of the first, thich is not a good thing! I liked the first very much though!

Cabin Fever sucked fucking balls.

Hostel 1 and 2 were great though. Good times :)
