Man, i am envious. Rats make incredible pets. We have a dog and 2 rabbits. We love all of them, and will always have dogs, but bunnies are like big mice; ungrateful and fucking messy. Cute as hell though.

I would kill for rats again. the hooded one ^ looks like my late rat Ripley (yes, named after sigourney weaver in Alien)

if it wasnt for the short life span i'd say they were the best pets ever

Okay, wasnt Preacher going for a PHD in molecular biology? there is his doctoral thesis, he needs to extend the lifespan of the domestic rat.

May as well give them opposable thumbs while we're at it.

I like the brown/black one.
I haven't had rat kittens in ages...I've got a female, but the pet retailers around here are just shit and haven't had any in a while.

Yeah, you'll get the friendliest rats by hand rearing them from a young age - The mothers that I've had, haven't been overly psycho, so I've been able to pat them from pretty young ages, and pick them up even before their eyes open...it's good when they have your scent even before they can see...I think the best thing is the day their eyes start to open.

My rat eats pretty much whatever, prefers vegetables though.
I agree, they are a great pet to have, they're friendly and always interesting to watch, they're clean, and don't require too much maintenance beyond feeding and the occasional wash. They're one of the few animals aside from dogs that actually seek out human attention/companionship, and I like that.

- The pissing thing tends to stop. Just put them back in their cage/hut whenever they do it, and don't pick them up right after they wake.

Hm...it's like they're kind've half way there...if you've seen rat hands, they almost look that way, not to mention they use their hands more'n any other creature I've come into contact with.

So yeah...biggest litter I've had, fyi, was 16, the smallest coming in at just 3.

rats practically have people hands, they just lack a thumb.

Hey, you would probably love Ratatouille. Its about a rat that cooks :)

Urge, they're adorable. It's a shame they wouldn't get along with my hairless kitty.
