How dare you leave for such a LONG time, Missy?

hmph...I oughta stop talking to you...but oh well, guess I missed you more so...that part's forgiven, I guess...

*giggles* Now I remember why I spent so much time here. You guys always make me laugh. :)

Hmm, maybe you can help me with a little something. We just hooked up the
5th computer (now we all have one, so the kids can do their schoolwork, Ash can play on his instead of bashing ours, and we can all have access when we need it). They are all hooked into one hub. We have DSL that only used to cut out in thunderstorms or heavy snow. But, ever since we hooked in the 5th one, we keep getting cut off about every hour or so. Is it some kind of conflict do you think? And, any idea how to make it stop?

Does the 5th one show in the network properly? Check network settings and see if the router recognises it.

If the network settings are fine and the router has access to all 5 comps, you may need to change the LAN card of the 5th one.

Umm, already too technical for me, I'm gonna let Dustin field this.

I do know that he had to change the IP for the 5th one. Not sure why. But, we're still getting cut off. It didn't do it with 4, only since the 5th.

Is that number accurate? I bet you really counted didn't you?

The DSL should work well with 5 computers, at work I have 8 computers networked all using DSL (one wirelessly). Like _V_ said, it's most likely a problem with the network setup, also be sure to check that there are no conflicting IPs, you should probably have them all set to DHCP.

Dude Guadalupe 03-29-2008 08:51 PM

I already took care of the conflicting Ip, all are set to DHCP, all are recognized, and the fifth is already running on another LAN card. Those were the first things I checked.

Rayne 03-29-2008 08:55 PM

UGH, as for what Dustin and the rest of you have said, I have no idea what any of it means.

So...Now what? I would really like to fix this, and he can't think of anything else to try.

Despare 03-29-2008 08:57 PM

If you unplug another computer and put the fifth into that one's spot on the router does it work?

Along the same lines- check your cables- even the ports - they can be screwed up.

Try replacing the 5th one with another comp. If the problem persists, you may need to unplug the 5th from the hub and go through the Settings all over again.

Its not an IP problem. Its the DHCP.
