i lived in london for about a year a while back and when i got home was frustrated at how many of my dvds were region coded and i couldn't watch them. now i have a multi-region player so its all good.

I had to change the region on my laptop, You can only do it 4 times for some reason, i don't know what happens after that, but the ones I brought over from Australia still play on it aswell, so maybe each time I change it, it actually gains that region, this is what I hope.

But I am buying more dvds here in a couple of months than I did all last year, it going to be expensive to get them all home...

they could do it a bit easier. we have a muti-region dvd player (and VHS). Oh well, i'll just have to try and find it on youtube

I went online and managed to find the code to type into my DVD remote to 'hack' it to region free so I can watch American and Asian DVD's etc. :)

Don't they have multi zone players in the UK?

XtRaVa 08-30-2007 02:08 PM

Yeah sure, but my DVD player was bought a few years back and its cheap as shit. It was like £15 from a food store - real economy value type stuff...But hey it works just fine. :)

And that's the one you managed to hack, that's pretty cool.

XtRaVa 08-30-2007 02:44 PM

Yeah, I think because its such a crap model they didnt bother with putting in proper protection for that sort of thing. It only took a few minutes of searching online to find the code to type into the remote to get into the technician section (which is supposed to be used by the manufacturer only I guess) and then another code to access and disable the set region mode to region free.

It's kind of stupid, they purposely change that to whichever number the DVD player is going to be shipped to and sold in. Any DVD player which isnt already region free technically can be, by turning the region function off - but they dont...just to try and make you by the next model up. Bastards.

"It does suck the way they do it here, also they are so damn expensive, it's almost cheaper to buy a movie than rent one???"
