Hey, new here. Don't believe the "based on truth" crap. This film is a work of fiction. Supposedly based on the Ivan Milat backpacker murders, there is in fact no similarity at all to the events of the film.

Now, have travelers been found brutally murdered in the Outback? Yeah. It's waaaay more true than the Texas Chiansaw Massacre or The Exorcism of Emily Rose which also tout themselves as "based on a true story". At least Wolf Creek takes place in the correct environment. |
Relative to TCM and Emily Rose, than yes, Wolf Creek definitely hits closer to the truth. The outback setting was artistic licence though (Ivan Milat killed in Belangelo state forest). Wolf Creek's "head on a stick" scene actually contains elements of truth however, as Milat had a habit of stabbing his victims at the base of their necks, rendering them paralysed.
Edit: So yes, my "no similarities" comment was a bit off base. |
Glad you corrected yourself there mate.
