I also just now found out that you can download every Nintendo game for free and play them on the Wii

Unless I've missed something I really don't think I would have, this isn't the case.
They ARE available, yes - nes, snes, n64 (and backwards compatability with the gamecube games which you'll just buy in their original condition), also NEC's turbo-grafx-16, Sega master system and sega megadrive...as well as that, I think I may have missed a console or two in there. However, they're not free...as far as I've heard, nintendo is doing something like world of warcraft style "points" cards, each game being worth a different amount of points.
The old stuff should be fairly cheap though, and worthwhile if it's something you really want (I can think of more than a few for me).

That being said, they have created a platform that screams for some m-rated games.... could you imagine a game where you play a slasher on that thing?

Red Steel looks pretty M rated? I would imagine call of duty 3 is too.
I have a feeling that there might be some issues with the controllers initially, one of the reasons I'm waiting (at the edge of my patience) a little while to pick this up. Agreed...nintendo needs to "grow up" a little if it's gonna secure an ongoing place this gen-'round...of course, the gamecube had a few more adult titles, I'd assume this one will have a few more.

It can be used as a regular gamepad, it has the buttons on the controller.

Or there's the "classic" controller thing, that looks more or less like the snes controller did.

I want to get a Wii but since I heard it didn't have any online play that pretty much killed it for me.

Doesn't mean it WON'T. Took Sony long enough to get the ps2 stuff online, hm? Besides, I dunno where you're hearing this from, but I'd assume that since you can download older games (anyone here done that yet? how so?), that the system is at least potentially compatible for the future to do so...
Yeah, as I said, I'm waiting a little while.
I want to see if any other controllers come out with chages/fixes, I want more old games available than there are at present, I want to be able to grab a few games with it, and see if the price falls any over 6 months.
All in all, I think it's gonna be a pretty good system, with some quality titles.
The 2-player robot buddy - crazy, the powerglove - dead, the virtual boy - damn near never existed in the first place...Nintendo has seen it's share of failed gimmicks...this one looks like the realisation of something really good this time. I've got high hopes, and I'm glad to hear that the controller interface is actually pretty good to use.
